We arrived at OKW today and are staying in a ground floor 1 bedroom unit on the end of building 15. Both 63 and 64 are undergoing exterior rehab. It looks like new siding in some places. It appears to be a yellow color, and I'll check tomorrow to see if they changed the color of buildings 11 & 12 when they did those, but maybe this yellow is just the color of the new siding and it might be painted yet???

Also, while 15 is one of my favorite buildings, our unit is not in great shape this time. Mostly it's the cabinet doors and the tub that are issues. I spoke with someone at check in about the tub and asked them to have maintenance look at it, but so far nothing has been done. It has a big blob of something in the bottom that is chalky and actully looks like someone patched the tub with dry wall mud. No lie, that's what it looks like! When I ran my hand over it, my hand got all chalky. I currently have a cleaning cycle going in the tub, and I'm going to see if I can scrub any of it out, but I doubt it. It seems to have been there a long time. It is a spot about 18 inches square and very rough. Obviously I wont be able to use the Jacuzzi on this trip (big disappointment). Everything else seems to be clean though.

They were doing the siding when we were there in January. Unfortunately we came home from the park one afternoon and the grandkids headed straight for the patio, which was covered in pieces of wood and screws. We had to grab the kids and then my son went out with the broom and swept it all over the side. Hopefully they are more careful now, I did call and complain. The other problem with the work was that it was so noisy that we couldn't come back at noon to nap the kids. But other than that we loved OKW, it was our first trip but not our last!

I guess I thought it was buildings 11 and 12 in January???? This is buildings 63 and 64. We didn't notice noise yesterday, but then I of ten don't notice that kind of thing. My biggest issue is the tub. I'm going to go down and check on that again today. I'll keep doing it until it's taken care of or I get an explanation.

Why would he have swept it over the side? We would have swept it up and thrown it away. Why litter and leave a mess for someone else to clean up?

Hi Diane,

Welcome Home!!

We're right down the street from you. Hope you can get your situation taken care of. Have you asked whether they can move you to a different unit?

Have a fantastic vacation...

I'm wondering why they're needing to replace the siding on two of the newest buildings. Wouldn't these be the last that needed to be done?

Are they started on interior renovations on any of the units? We are going soon & would like to request one if they have started. Have a "Disney Day"!

Actually, I'm sure it is indeed time for those buildings to be renovated on the exterior. They have been going through OKW two buildings at a time for the past couple of years, and this would be the last ones on the list. I'm just wondering if 11 and 12 got interior renovations. I know they were doing exteriors on those buildings, but did they do the inside????

Lew, they did offer to move us, but I had already unpacked, and I decided to stay put even though I will miss the tub. I need to call maintenance again anyway, because the drawer pull is broken on the knife drawer too.

Thanks, Diane. I didn't realize they'd been doing this for a couple years. I guess I've never noticed any exterior work going on when we've been at OKW.

Diane,

I know what you mean about being unpacked and wanting to avoid the hassle of moving.

Doesn't it make you wonder whether they ever check the units over and report issues? I think they just wait for owners to discover problems and call housekeeping or engineering.

Frankly, I think the issue is mousekeeping. We used to have good mousekeeping at OKW, but when SSR opened, they sent our mousekeeping manager over there, and now the mousekeepers are based at SSR and come over to OKW from there. Ever since that change, we have had issues with mousekeeping here at OKW. It makes a huge negative difference to not have the manager for housekeeping on site. I'm going to call both maintenance and go down and speak to the manager again today. Maybe I can get to the bottom of the renovation questions too.

Diane - The more I think about this issue with your tub, the more I wonder how a hole that big got in the tub in the first place. What on earth do some guests do in their units? Our last visit to OKW, we had a coffee table that had a series of deep gouges the length of the table. There's no way these were from typical wear and tear; it looked as though someone purposely dragged something up and down the table making those gouges. Other than that, our unit was spotless with no problems other than some of the vegetation trying to take over the balcony. ;)

Yes, and that "I don't care " attitude pervades all we experience lately too. I just scratch my head over how rude people are to perfect strangers in the parks too. It's all part of the same problem.
