More Ebay....

I've lost the thread about selling on Ebay, so starting again! Someone had mentioned they had made quite a bit of money since December, (~$1000?) and I was wondering how much time they were investing. Was also curious about whether they were listing alot of little things or big priced items? I've only been listing less than a week. I'm going to have to sell everything in my house to make $1000!! Unless I can think of some items that will sell well!

I just deposited over 500.00 into our disney funds from ebay this weekend.My husband sold some motorcycle stuff he no longer needed and i sold kids clothes and toys i would have put in a yard sale anyway!!You would be surprised sometimes what people will pay for used items!!Just look around and start cleaning house lol!!I also sell items for friends who dont have a computer and they split the profit with me 50/50.Works for us both!!

My starting bids may be too low, I don't know. I'm listing clothes,just alot of household things; how long have you been selling on ebay? I've only been doing it a week! lol We don't have any collectibles or small high priced things, so I have taken ALOT of pictures the past few days. I've also talked to family and received some things donated to me to list. I just hope people bid!!!

Last week I listed 18 items and my listing prices totalled $76. At close of all 18 auctions Sunday evening, the total selling price was $219. I've been very pleased with the prices I have been getting. The things I've sold are used clothing, children's software that we've outgrown, books, and craft items. Rubber stamps were really hot last week or I was just very lucky! Three of my old sets (now retired) sold for several dollars more than I bought them for when new. I am thinking about hitting yard sales but will definitely be choosey and search for brand names as they do sell better. Taking 13 items to the PO today to mail was no easy task but it was great transferring over $250 from paypal to my checking acct!!

I, too, have been listing used clothes (in season), but haven't gotten to the software/DVDs yet. I'm actually having fun doing this but I want so much for it to be successful!! I bet the trips to the PO are going to be fun, haha. Bet they know you now!! I forgot about craft things....I'll have to look in closets. My daughter does rubber stamping and she won't let me sell any of it!!! (my family thinks if it isn't nailed down I'm going to sell it!)
Are you using Priority Mail? for everything?

That was me who has made nearly $1000 since Dec. The question isn't what have I sold, but what HAVEN'T I sold...

Let's see...My dh sold some old scanners and electronics equipment. Those were big ticket items (over $100 each). We both sold our childhood (It was time to really start "clean sweeping" and we sold a lot of vintage stuff. Old Avon/Hallmark pins from the 70's (I had 9 of them and sold them for $31!!), Smokey Bear stuff, a vintage Raggedy Ann doll, Girl Scout stuff, etc.) I sold old clothing of mine and my boys, a NWT tags Columbia Boys parka that I bought for my son and he outgrew (bought it on clearance at Kohl's for $21 and sold it for $38!), picture frames, wedding gifts that we never used, some "wanted" toys (sesame street stuff sells well I found!), my son's fireman raincoat that I bought at Marshall's last year for $15 and sold this year for $21 because he outgrew it), a vintage Vera Bradley handbag (Vera Bradley sells very well!) 3 sets of bedding, some Princess House stuff of my grandmothers that I really didn't want! Lots and lots of stuff!!!

I still have a yard sale pile for when it warms up here. I have a Fisher Price Picnic table, Little Tikes basketball hoop set, Little Tykes slide, etc. that I don't want to be bothered selling on eBay. My friend and I are having a joint yard sale so I'll sell those things plus other stuff that didn't seem eBayable (didn't look to be a market for some stuff).

I don't put a lot of time into it. I try to just list on Saturdays or Sundays, and then for shipping, my dh takes everything to the post office on his way to work during the week (he works 2nd shift) He picks up boxes and envelopes at the p.o. for me when he's there shipping. It's sort of a team effort!

I have really found that there is a buyer for everything! I'm looking at listing about 20 Pez dispensers that we have in a bag from the kids....they look to sell like crazy!!

Hi. Do you mean old pez dispensers? You can't mean new ones right? I would love to get in on selling on Ebay. do you know anything that is hot right now?

i may be wrong, so anyone can correct me, but as far as the pez dispensers, the older the better. but ANYTHING pez sells like crazy. there are people that have huge collections of them.

i'm new myself to ebay and can't say what's "hot" right now, but would love to know that answer myself. (although i'm sure i don't have one! lol )

Did you know you can print your postage right from paypal now? It's such a great feature. No standing in line at the PO, just drop them at the counter and go. When someone pays you, there will be a little "ship" icon next to the payment. If you click that, you can choose which method you want to ship via (first class, priority, media, parcel post or express mail). Delivery confirmation is free with priority mail but there is a .13 fee for all other classes. Also all classes except priority are charged a .20 label processing fee, but IMO it's worth it. I just print my postage and it deducts it right from my paypal account!!

I'm sure it is worth it to pay the extra fees to paypal for the postage; I just got started myself and so far I'm in the red, with listing fees, etc. I think I'll end up making a few trips to the PO at the beginning!

Just remember, you aren't covered under paypals seller protection policy unless you purchase delivery confirmation for the items you sell. If you are already shipping priority, there are no additional fees for it when using paypal.

I was thinking about uploading that shipping assistant today actually, but I spoke to the person at the PO yesterday and she said I would still have to come in because they need to weigh to be certain the postage is correct and also to find out if anything is "liquid, fragile, perishable". They must ask that 1000 times every day!! I start with nothing is .... and they still ask for every package. Weird. Maybe it's just in my area? Anyway, I will check out paypal's because it would be easier to have it deducted rather than writing checks to the PO every day.

That's weird she would tell you that. They have a "pick up" option where the carrier would just pick up your items with the postage already on them, so there would be no need to go in. I would assume if there was something wrong with the weight, they would just send the item back to you for the correct postage or mark "postage due" when it gets to the buyer.

I have a postal scale, so I always weigh them with that. My PO knows me pretty well, so I don't have to wait for them to weigh them etc. I just drop them at the counter and go!!

This is an inspiring thread! I was happy this week that I hit the $200 mark. I have just been selling items that were already in the garage sale box or laying around ready to go to Goodwill. I still have a ton of stuff, nothing collectable, but I'll just keep plugging away until I get my hotel paid off. If I earn more then that's a bonus!

I am a total newbie so forgive me. How bad are the lisiting fees? Do you get to relist for free if item does not selll?

Today is .50 listing day so no listing fee will be over .50 for TODAY ONLY though!!!! (of course the .30 & .35 fees will still be those prices today).

Here are the normal listing fees. In most instances if your item doesn't sell, and you relist it a second time and it sells, you will get that second relisting fee back.

Keep in mind, that the savings may not be worth it unless you have collectables that people will be searching out. When eBay has a special like this, so many items get put up, yours might get lost in the rush. Also everyones ends the same day and for me at least, when they have specials, my final bids are way lower than usual. This only covers the basic listing fees, so it may not be a savings for you at all, or it may only save so little, it's not worth it. Just my own opinion of course..others may have had good luck competing against the masses!

I agree DM Rick. I would do it with just a few items, not alot of things. I have better luck listing things a little at a time each day. My things seem to get noticed better.
Where does ebay advertise these special listing days, by the way.
