the first level of cutbacks didn't bother me that much. i understand that disney is a business, and must generate an adequate return or risk being taken over. i also agree that in the current environment complaining about petty nuisances is inappropriate, no matter what you spent on your vacation.
that said, the new rumors are driving me wild. i heard that by christmas they're going to:
1) turn off all electricity into the haunted mansion and give each guest a book of matches
2) take the undeveloped eagle pines site and earn federal subsidies by using it to store toxic waste transferred from the hanford facility in washington
3) introduce exotic dancers in cinderella's castle at a special midnight show
4) let qualified guests bid on "maintenance passes" which allow free entry in return for agreeing to fix broken attractions
5) put slot machines in the boats at "it's a small world"
6) sublet tom sawyer's island to the city of orlando for construction of a massive sewage treatment facility
7) put the lincoln robot in the frontier land shooting gallery and charge $100/round
8) enforce a three pint minimum at the rose & crown (well, this one may not be all bad)
9) make guests get out and push the wdwrr around the magic kingdom
10) let white castle build stalls on every corner of main street, and remodel space mountain into a huge slider
11) introduce bungee jumping off of spaceship earth
12) add a substantial variety of game entrees to the menus at the animal kingdom

...but maybe you all have better information

*****i forgot the most important part; each of these improvements was made after extensive polling to determine customer desires*****

This was wonderful!

My husband said he would only go on IASW if they implemented #5 and he thought #8 was already a rule! hahaha

tinkrbells;)

I share your fears, Crazy. I, too, have heard some curious rumors-

- No more water at the water parks. New craze, "Friction sliding" all the rage.

-Sail powered monorails.

-"Amatuer fire-eater night" at the Polynesian Luau

-"Shadow Puppet Spectacular" replaces fireworks at all parks.

-Main Street Barber Shop Quartet learning N'Sync-style choreography

-Pleasure Island nightclubs now offering "World's Loudest Brunch" on Sundays at 7:45 AM.

-Guests vie for cleanest room at each resort for "Do your own housekeeping" contest, winner gets a Disney Dollar!

On a serious note, I stand by Disney and the hard economic choices they, like all of us, are being forced to make. If we exercise our freedom, keep going to DW, buying airline tickets, etc, we will recover and prosper. See you at OKW 11/23-12/1/01. Twenty eight years of vists and counting.
God Bless America.

If you substitute Clinton for Lincoln for #7, the line would be longer than the line for Space Mountain and $100/round would be a bargain!

Sorry, I just couldn't resist...
;)

EXCUUUUUUUUUUUUUSE Me, plain crazy, but it appears to be mostly additions you have listed as opposed to "cut backs". What's all the complaining about! Sign me up for "maintenence passes" I love to fix things.

Great job! Point well taken. ;)

Great post, plain crazy....

By the way, in an effort to reduce costly verbiage by 50%, the official DVC greeting is now "Welcome". They also found out that this works for non-DVC guests so it really cuts down their CM training requirements! :D

Unfortuntely, Disney is making cutbacks and the resulting decision for some people to loose thier jobs.

nice post plain crazy! you probably weren't on these boards when we joked about reduced maint. fees if we fixed up the dvc units while we were there. we all had shovels, hammers, and paint brushes ready to go.

plain crazy
Great thread.

Mickbee,
If you take your suggestion one step further and make it the real thing (not the robot), Disney would have no attendance problems at all! ;)

Plain Crazy - those don't sound like cutbacks to me :D :D

LOL! Thanks for putting a spin and perspective on this!

I like the White Castle idea. I live in Massachusetts and there aren't any here and I miss them.

BTW, I am originally from Cincinnati, Ohio.

I miss Skyline Chili too!;)

Very funny. I like the real addition to the shooting gallery. Can we include his partner?

I heard we'll be able to use points to stay in the houses in Splash Mountain. Our choice, of course. :D

Great post, Plain Crazy!

MinneMe,
How about 500 DVC points to stay at Cinderella Castle Sun-Thurs, 850 points Fri-Sat?

No maid service, of course. You would have to put on an apron and do the sweeping, cleaning, and dishes (from the Royal Banquet) yourself!
