Disney just launched a quinceanera celebration service and now we'll be competing with 15 year olds for Illuminations Dessert Party locations and Cinderella's carriage! ;)

http://www.laughingplace.com/NEWS-ID10026430.ASP

I can't be too mad, though. I've always secretly wanted to have my own quinceanera - it's like having a wedding without needing a groom! :rotfl:

i think its neat but(& boy do i mean BUT) i think its a little to much for a 15/16 year old to have a party that costs as much as or more than a wedding.

Quincenera's are beautiful!

i sponsored Dhs niece last year, but it was outta control & she ended up 16 & pregnant a year later!!!!!& next year his other niece wants everyone to truck down to central Mexico for hers even though her mom is losing her house & needs the money!!! i dont get that!

If i had the money to blow Id consider it for DD, but i dont play lotto;)

I hope these parents are ready for the $$$$$....they better get prepared by watching Super Sweet 16 on mtv;)

I had the huge Sweet 16 party! Well not like the ones on MTV. But it was great. I would love something like that. :rotfl: You have lots of years to save.

funny, my parents told me I could either have a quinceanera or they'd take me to disney world.... guess which one I chose? :mickeyjum

funny you say that, cause the one neice having one next year.....to be nice....DH & I offered to take her to WDW this Dec & not have the party, but she wants the party....shes never been to wdw, so i dont think she knows what shes missing:confused3

Ok, I don't want to sound horrible here, so please don't flame me. I am just wondering if they are doing quinceanera celebrations, are they going to allow other big birthday celebrations? My family heritage has absolutely no spanish/latin (is saying latin PC?) in them; we are german. Nor does my df's family. If I had a daughter, I couldn't do this for her. First off, our families would more than likely not come, cause they have no clue what it is. Second, I would imagine she would want a sweet sixteen just because of our family heritage (meaning little german girl having a quinceanera, I don't think is right. I have no clue:confused3 ). Also, are they going to start doing stuff like Bar Mitzva's (sp?), which they might already do and I don't know it, and sweet sixteens? I am just saying if you allow one, you should allow them all. I do have to agree with previous posters. Most of the brides on here are nervous about getting a specific date and time. I can't imagine what it is going to be like now.

I read that last night and couldn't help bt think of My Super Sweet 16 on MTV. I caught a few episodes last summer when our neice stayed with us. All I could say is that those girls are spoiled rotten (or at least the ones I saw). I also saw the competion for date and availablity of features/locations. It would just hope that brides have the priority as some of these features were designed for their use, after all their the ones spending the $$$.

I do think that by Disney opening this up as an option that all indiviudlas should be able to host similar affairs. Don't flame me, but if my DD wanted a big bash at Disney I would have be complaining and calling the culture/race card. I have already been denied things because I didn't ahve the right background (but that's my rant). Actually, I think that you could have a party like this, you just have to go through event planning.

I think I agree a bit w/ Rangerpooh & Princessbride07 - please don't flame me either:worried:

Although I think it's nice to open up more options for the dessert party use -(and of course Disney is trying to just book it every weekend for more $$$) - I really think that brides should get the preference here.
I can't beleive that a 15 year old would get preference to use this venue over a bride, just doesn't make sense to me...
...guess that's just my opinion because I was taught to work hard for my money.
Yikes! sorry if it sounds harsh, really don't mean it that way, just thinking about what's fair. Honestly, if I read that any of you ladies really wanted to use it and you couldn't because of this, I would feel so bad:sad2:!!! Some of you have waited years for your day!

I think alot of people are making huge assumptions. I didn't see anything that said this would come before a wedding. It's another service they are providing. I for one had a huge Sweet 16 party. I am not spoiled. My Dad is in the Army. But it was a tradition for my family. Honestly this is a very important thing for alot of Hispanic families. I'm sure there are plenty of times that venues go empty, this is a money thing for Disney.

what they should do to be fair to brides is have the brides be able to book at like a year out ( i don't know how long it actually is, im just using these as an example) and then have everyone else be able to book only at 6 months. Or something like that. This way brides still get first dibs, the way it should be.

That is a very good idea. Then these other events could fill in spaces.

Sorry if I offended you! You definitely are not spoiled if you have a sweet 16party. Believe me, I am hispanic, so I would be the last person to say that.

I only meant to say that I hope brides get the priority on this one because honestly, I think you all deserve it after working & planning so much!!!

I guess I just pictured in my head a future bride writing "I couldn't get my date! It's being used for a quinceanera event" I would feel really bad for her, that's all...

But you're right, anyone is entitled to use the venue as long as they can provide the funds.

Oh no worries. I agree brides should have preference. Sorry for sounding snippy.

Oh it's okay, you're in your right. I think the wedding planning stuff is starting to get to me and for some odd reason I feel the need to defend the right of ALL brides. :confused3 yeah:rolleyes: , I know, sorry...

Somebody slap me...

When we had our engagement pictures, the photographer was doing a huge sweet 16 at the Living Seas afterwards. According to him, these kinds of large celebrations for the younger crowd (bar/bat mitzvahs, quinceneras, etc.) have been going on for a long time and can be very extravegent!

This is the WRONG place for me to say this I'm sure..but since when have dessert parties only been for weddings??

They have been doing those for corporate and private events for YEARS, it has NEVER been an event that was created especially with weddings in mind.

Now..I don't want to offend anyone here AT ALL, so please don't take it that way!

I can tell you straight up tho, that whoever has the money and books first will be the one who scores the venue. I can't see them showing any preference.

We personally have a Sweet 16 party booked with several events to take place this October at DW. And yes, one of those is a dessert party!

My EM checked..the date was open..it was booked..simple as that.

Weeel...since you asked!;) :rotfl:

The first night, which is her actual birthday,we're doing a Beach Party themed dinner at the Summerhouse and Small Beach area at the GF.
The menu is a buffet with action stations serving things like grilled to order New York Strip Steak..Whole Lobster..Crab Cakes..you get the idea! Tho I CAN post the whole menu if you want!;) :goodvibes

After dinner, we're taking all of our guests over to MK for SpectoMagic and Wishes!

The next morning..all of the girlies are meeting at the GF Cafe for breakfast. After that we are going to the GF Spa for the rest of the morning.:cloud9:

At about 1:00 we're meeting the rest of our group at the GF Marina for a Pirate Picnic Cruise! We're renting pontoon boats, and I got pirate hats for everyone. I'm looking for some type of cardboard treasure chests to pack the lunches in..just sandwiches and chips,etc.. I DID find some Pirates of the Caribbean juice boxes at Walmart last night that I got for the kids lunch boxes!
I'm still working on more plans for that.

After the Picnic Cruise, we're taking everybody to MNSSHP.

The next day is Shop Like a Celebrity Day!! We have a Hummerzine picking up anyone who wants to join us shopping, and we're heading over to the Mall at Mallenia for a few hours. We're gonna grab lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, before heading back in the limo which will drop us off at Epcot to meet the rest of our group.

This is the night we're having the Dessert Party. We have booked Lochside (lower UK). They even let me order Zebra Domes...DD's FAVORITE!!

Next day..We're taking everyone to breakfast at Chef Mickey's. After that some of our group are going home, and the rest are going to AK.

I'm still working on a lot of the details. I get LOTS of ideas from reading here on the Wedding board. That's how I found Randy Chapman!

That sounds amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have a very lucky daughter. You might try Oriental Trading for the Pirate boxes. I got some on there for a party. Or Birthday Express.
I had a Red Carpet Sweet 16 party. It was on a Prom night. Alot of the Prom kids wanted to come to my party. That night I will always remember.

Oh and remember there are lots of Pirates snack things out because the new movie is coming out.
