More Channels to be Cut at Dish Network

This has just happened to my parents too. I had been telling my dad he was going to have to switch and I guess he thought it would be worked out, but it wasn't. Losing Fox Sports was a huge blow - we watch nearly every Cardinals game together - and even though they have 250 channels, they only watch about 10 of them. Well, when 1 of the 10 gets cut, that's a good chunk of their programming. The thought of losing the local Fox affiliate was just the icing on the cake.

Yeah, Fox Sports would be the dealbreaker for us too, because it is basically the only reason we even bother with cable/satellite. If that's ever cut from our lineup we'll go the Roku/MLB.tv subscription route.

Here's the budget angle - for those of you who are affected (and dissatisfied with Dish, in general), I am wondering if these changes would be grounds for you to terminate your contract with Dish without penalty?

Even without those changes, dropping Dish has been one of the best decisions we have ever made. We switched to Direct TV and are saving a bundle and getting reception that is 10 times better. I swear every time it sprinkled we lost reception and forget about it during snow. When I called to tell them they said it would cost $100 just for a technician to come out. We complained about our DVR deleting programs on its own, we would have to buy a new one. So instead, we called Direct TV. Best move ever.

I just called and spoke with someone. He passed me on to someone else. This lady did say that Fox was trying to raise their rates by 50%. I said that I did not see any mention of this on their website and I found out from another source (here). She acted suprised and said that I could go to jointhefightagainstfox.com to stay abreast. I also asked if we would be compensated with a credit for losing these channels. She acted flustered and said she did not know. This lady probably should not be in customer service. Her tone was just crappy. Losing the sports channels will be the dealbreaker for us. We've been customers for nine years now.

I imagine the loss of Fox Sports (Midwest) is going to be a major deal-breaker for a lot of sports fans in St. Louis -- especially, since FS Midwest will be the sole TV provider for St. Louis Cardinals baseball beginning with the 2011 season.

And no, MLB.tv isn't an option, since all those games are "blacked-out" on the live internet feed for those throughout MO, and certain other states in the broadcast territory.
