More Booze in the MK!

Alcohol brings in a lot of money so I'm actually surprised it wasn't at more places sooner. It doesn't bother me as a non-drinker, I'm sure if someone gets rowdy security would be called in or the person escorted out quietly, I would hope anyway. Heck, people can come into the park loopy so I don't think it will be a big deal, except bringing them in more money, which then maybe they won't have to hike my food prices so much.

This is a big part of what set Disney's parks apart from their competitors. It was great to have one corner of the World that still subscribed to the Disney way of operating. Although we all knew this sad day would come once BOG opened the gate, I had hoped it would be a few more years down the road. It's bad enough what we have to put up with at Epcot as far as guest behavior, and make no mistake, it will come to MK in time. With all the other places to get a drink, I will never understand why people need it at MK as well. Just so disappointed. . .:(

Maybe I'm just lucky but we've been to F&W every year (usually for multiple nights) since 2009 and I've never seen bad guest behavior in EPCOT at all... Yes we've seen the people with the "drinkers around the world" shirts on having a good time, but nothing close to a real problem. I know there are stories of things happening but honestly (and unfortunately) this happens everywhere including MK because you can drink around the monorail loop and head into the park. I really think (for the vast majority of people), people don't get drunk while eating dinner, they get drunk by hitting the bar before or after. 1 or 2 drinks with a full meal really isn't the recipe for getting drunk.

Epcot drunks could always be seen in front of the castle all they had to do was drink at Epcot and hop over to MK...

However, they would be considered MK drunks making a scene in front of the castle, not Epcot drunks. Granted, I have never actually seen any drunk person making a scene anywhere in WDW and I have been there multiple times during F&W. Even thought I know it happens I don't think that it is very common. There is a large difference between having a drink and being a scene-making drunk. I don't think alcohol being more available throughout MK will prevent or increase the odds of that happening.

You know, except for the exclusive club within the park that was Walt's idea.

Apparently, if you had enough money to pay the membership fee then you were still able to drink, but not be automatically associated with that pesky "rowdy element" that other non-club approved alcohol draws. :)

I am an occasional social drinker.
I have one drink at a restaurant a few times per year and have a number of drinks in a short period of time maybe 3-4 times per year at my home.

That being said I have no problem with MK serving alcohol at more locations.

In fact I love the idea of Skipper Canteen serving alcohol because I think they could have some interesting drinks.
I do think it should be more than just beer and wi8ne.
I prefer mixed drinks if I'm going to consume something.
So really it won't effect me in the slightest.

I don't need to drink to have fun at WDW but I also don't think that MK needs to be alcohol free/limited.

I don't see what the difference is in having alcohol everywhere else and not wanting it at MK.
It's a theme park with lots of families and children sure but so are the other parks.

It's only at select TS locations and they are not allowing it to leave the restaurant so it's not like you're going to have tons of drunk people wandering around plus IDK about anyone else but if I'm paying a high price for a glass of wine that is the only glass I'm getting lol.

Just my thoughts.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion so to each their own.

I'm fine with this, but even as a drinker, I'd prefer it to remain in the restaurants. Let's reserve EPCOT, AK and DHS as places to walk around with a drink. I like the kiddie and nostalgic feel of MK.

Yeah, but Club 33 was certainly not going to being in a "rowdy element." Not at those prices! That's more of a upscale thing, which is why I'm fine with some being served at the nicer restaurants (Tony's though? Really? Okay.). People are not likely to overindulge at those prices as they would if there was cheaper beer available on carts everywhere.

Honestly though, it doesn't stop anybody from being drunk in MK anyway. For all the stories about wild F&W guests, I've never had an issue there. The drunkest guy I've ever seen at WDW was in MK at MNSSHP and he was fairly drunk, but still new all the words to "Boo to You." Honestly, it ws pretty funny! I just don't really want to see maragarita stands in Fantasyland and such. It just doesn't fit.

Keep reading your same link:

Yeah, I read it -

The lounge was intended for corporate and VIP schmoozing, whether or not Walt intended for drinking in that lounge or even for individual memberships isn't specified. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't - but the fact of the matter is that Walt himself wasn't alive when it did open and hadn't been alive for almost half a year before.

I'm going to agree that the idea that there is a "dry" piece of land somewhere in the country is magical in itself. I personally never can drink much or at all in Disney cuz I just don't need to (and I own a bar! So that's how intensely Disney's Magic works on me!) However, taking that 1st sip of wine in BoG last trip felt like an honor. I will be going w/friends in June, all in our late 20's & 30's and I am excited for them now to have more options in MK. For someone who makes a living off alcohol I understand why, but I also understand that these additions feel like a bit of a loss...end of an era...I'm a wearer of all shoes I guess:tiptoe: Che sera sera!!

"No liquor, no beer, nothing. Because that brings in a rowdy element. That brings people that we don't want and I feel they don't need it. I feel when I go down to the park I don't need a drink. I work around that place all day and I don't have one. After I come out of a heavy day at the studio sometimes I want a drink to relax." - Walt Disney to journalist Pete Martin for the Saturday Evening Post in the summer of 1956

I really find little issue with this, even if it slowly does get expanded to other locations in the park.

Having worked crowd control at the MK one summer in 1991, I can tell you there were plenty of drunk people at the MK. People will sneak their own in or drink heavily before if they want. Most of the disturbances I came across were adults fighting to get a good view of the parade, and most had been drinking. So no matter, people will find a way. I for one am looking forward to a glass of wine at Tony's. Come one - Italian meal without wine? But I understand that at some point, there may be beer stations like they have at EPCOT or US/IOA and there will be problems. The solution is to add more security and kick anyone out that causes the least bit of trouble.
