Hey Joanne! Did you see how much more our LIRR train tickets could be costing us? They could be $267!!!!! When I started using monthly tickets back in 1983 I think they cost $91. (I know they cost that in 1984)

I saw it. It's sickening!

I know when we moved here in 1987 it just went up to about $135.

we just had a 25% increase a few years ago too???

For a long time, we didn't have any increases, then the last few years, we've had 1 increase after another.

That's crazy!! Tell me that's the monthly price at least?! Do you guys get any sort of reimbursement from work, or discounted commuter tickets or anything? I know when I worked in Hartford if I bought monthly bus passes, I could submit them at the end of the month and get some sort of reimbursement. Other companies had programs where they bought the passes by the thousands and then sold them to their employees at a discount. At the very least do you get to write that off on your taxes as a work expense?

Yes that's a monthly ticket, but so was the $91--and this is for the exact same route! Most NYC companies don't have programs like that since most of the employees do use mass transit. We can (& I do) get Transit Checks from the Federal Government, but that's a payroll/tax kind of thing. So yes, I don't pay taxes on that money, but it does come out of my pocket anyway.
