Does it matter if you add onto your existing home or is it more beneficial to add on to different resort? Also, is it better to have the same uy month? We presently have AKL Kidani Village with a uy of December for 160 points. My original thought was to just add on to AKL and try to get the same uy. It just seems easier to keep track and easier to book what I want with all my eggs in one basket. Can anyone help?

:)We have done both -- our home resort is OKW and we added on through resale but just recently we purchased BWV through resale. We wanted the same UY for record keeping purposes so we purchased both resale contracts with an Oct. UY, the same as our original contract.

Owning at more than 1 home resort allows you to book each home resort with it's points at 11 months. As the membership continues to grow, now at 400,000 members, owning points at your favorite resorts will become even more important.

Choose a UY that works best for your vacation patterns and buy all of your contracts with that UY. Owning more that 1 UY can be a real headache and increases the possibility of problems.

I started with 160 at Kidani as well. Within about a year, I added on two smaller contracts, both at AKV.

I just recently bought a small contract at BCV which (with banking and borrowing) will allow me to have a nice week-long stay there every 3rd year. I bought this contract because I will want to go to BCV during spring break, which is a pretty popular time and I didn't want to run the risk of not getting it at the 7 month window.

All of my contracts have the same use year, which keeps all in one place, under one membership. If you buy an add-on with a different use year, you will have a 2nd membership number. It is so much easier to have the same use year -- you only have to keep track of one banking window for all.

Good luck with your add-on!

If you want to add on directly through Disney, you must purchase the same use year as your Master contract unless you buy the minimum for a new contract and insist on a different use year.

With incentives and no closing costs, buying small add on contracts directly through Disney can be a better deal than buying resale. Do the math. :)

Expect to spend more time and effort on managing your contracts if you have more than one use year. There are advantages to multiple use years, but there are also disadvantages. For example, you cannot combine points from contracts with different use years without doing a transfer. Members are limited to one transfer per use year per contract, so a transfer between contracts will use the allotment for both contracts for that use year. If you don't plan ahead and pay attention, you may end up losing points.

I to own at AKV Kidani with December UY. I just added on a small contract same place same UY keeps things easy for me. I am also going to probably add on one more I am waiting til my DD reports to Disney Jan. 6th. She will be there in the College Program so I will be going at least once a month thru the summer will need adl points - again I am doing sameUY same place.

We just added on at BLT with the same use year as our original AKV contract. We wanted the 11 month booking opportunity for the year. We are going to have to travel at school vacations for a bit so we figured the 11 month window would be important.

We own 210 BLT points in two contracts (160 and 50). We bought more BLT points when we realized our 160 pts. weren't enough to stay at BLT for the number of nights we wanted. We have bid on a contract at AKV for 100 pts. Both with the same use year. Like the OP said it's just easier for us to keep track of one use year. We originally thought we'd go with 50 pts. on the add on contract, but then realized that if we wanted to combine the contracts only one could be the home resort and booked at the 11 month mark. The other nights would have to be added later at the 7 month mark. So when we wanted to bring family and need larger room(s) we'd have to combine the points. However in the years we didn't bring the family would the smaller contract give us enough points every two years for a stay for the minimum number of nights we'd want? So we looked at the different resorts, determined BLT's high points really limited us for our number points and started looking at resale at SSR, BCV, BWV (everyone says Epcot resorts are the place to be and SSR often has rooms available). We were using our heads not our hearts in our selection of resorts. We thought 75 pts. would be perfect. And then we saw a 100 pt. contract at AKV with an asking at $86. We really enjoyed a savanna room when we stayed there in June it had that Disney Magic for us ;). We bid $84 and it was accepted. It's now waiting for a ROFR decision.

I hope what I typed makes sense. I kind of rambled. The gist of my post is buy at a resort you want to stay at.

:dance3:Thanks everyone! I received some great information and input from my friends on the disboards-Gotta love it! One thing is for certain, keep the same UY. The rest I will have to think about.:dance3:
