Moral dilemma - what would you do?

Call the store and ask for the manager on duty, don't speak to customer service. Provide the manager with the details of the purchase including how you discovered that they should have been labeled for individual sale after you got home. Then ask the manager if it would be ok to return them on your next visit.

You are allowing them to fix their mistake and you don't have to make a special trip. You probably won't even have to return them, but you have been open and honest about their mistake. You're helping them out with their loss prevention issues. They can't fix these problems if they know nothing of them.
I agree! A phone call is much cheaper then spending the gas and the time to go to the store. You are being totally honest with them, but not having their mistake inconvenience you.
You will still set a good example for your children in that you did not just sweep the issue under the carpet.

I would return it. If I know that I did something wrong, it would eat at me and I wouldn't feel good about myself. Even if it's "only" $10, or required a special trip the next day, I would bring it back to the customer service desk with my receipt and explain what happened.

That's exactly how I would handle it.

Although, if I'd noticed the mistake in the parking lot or something, I would have gone back in.

This shouldn't be a big hassle. You paid for one, return the rest with a note "Got five instead of one" - and give it to the person in customer service. Nothing to wait for - just give 'em back and split. I would not make a special trip, just the next time I went. :confused3 :confused3

I would take it back & explain their error. IMO there are no degrees of honesty or dishonesty.

With Target the item will be on clearance in a few weeks at 75-90% off. Just think of it as an early bargain.

I would either return the extras and keep the one that I wanted or pay for them all.

I would go back and return it. I wouldn't justify it for any reason. Yes, there are no degrees of honesty or dishonesty....

but that's just self-righteous me. :teeth:

GL!

I thought the return policy for Target was the same all over the country! I recently returned a television that I bought for my daughters room and it was too big for the dresser it was going to sit on. I took it back the following week with NO problem at all and no restocking fee. They didn't make me buy another television either (like I thought they might)
I also like the fact that I don't have to hunt down a misplaced receipt. I just hand them the card I used, and they find the prrof of sale in their computer system.
Don't try that at Walmart! TARGET ROCKS!
