Poly -- didn't think we had that many holidays so I looked it up.

6 Professional Developement days for the teachers.( one for these is actually June 29th so the kids are done June 28th :confused3 )
2 weeks off for Christmas/New Years
1 week in March
4 days( Thanksgiving, Good Friday, Easter Monday, and Victoria Day)

I am defineitly a convience cook. Wouldn't even know how to make my own sauce.

We are having Hamburger Helper tonight......:rotfl: Kids love it.

Only difference between your calendar and ours' ( Catholic school, right?) is the 2 weeks at Christmas. Ours only get one week.

just finished prepping the meal. Have way too much of each cheese, one extra box of noodles, but not enough sauce . So, I'll get more tomatoes and use up this stuff after the cruise.

Yes mine go to a Catholic school but the public schools here get the same holidays. The neighbours kids are off the same days.

Mind you my neices and nephews elsewhere have different PD days. But the rest are the same.

I forgot you were making stuff for the girls while you were away.

Hope this weather system gets out of the way before you trip.

Ours went to Catholic school until high school, then on to an independant Charter school.
They always had a week and a half break at Easter.

My son Jordan that just graduated has this T-shirt that says, "Publick skool is good enuff for me!" Or something to that effect.

Do y'all get snow days? We should! But never do! It could be snowing so the busses can't move and the plows are stuck and frost bite has bitten and still our kids go to school. I've lived here over 10 years and don't recall them ever declaring it a snow day! Publick Skools!

We do have charter schools too but my kids (bragging voice) are in the "gifted and talented program" which limits their class size and affords them very good teachers and is working well for us. My first grader (going into 2nd grade) is reading Harry Potter (last year!) :snooty:

My daughters went to the Charter School of Wilmington. Have to score 97% on the entrance exam to be accepted. This school is independent and funded by the duPont Co., Verizon, AstraZeneca,Hercules chemical and Chrisitana Healthcare. It is the top school in the state and #75 or 74 on Newsweek's list of the top 500 in the country. There are 3 phases of classes with phase 3 being equal to phase 5 at the other schools in the state. My girls were in Charter's phase 5's and APs. When our oldest started she said it was great being with kids who actually wanted to learn. This school totally prepared our girls for college. They were pushed to do their best and they did. Charter is a math and science school and all the students were made to feel comfortable with their intelligence. and not one of them wore a pocket protector!

Kudos for your kids doing so well in school! Harry Potter!   YEAH for Uma's super duper smart kids!

UMA -- We do have snow days. The buses didn't run two days I think this year but we don't have to make them up. On the gifted kids.

Our Catholic school isn't a private school, it is the same as public only they do prayers, mass and teach religion. We have some kids that come to our school for the smaller numbers in the class that are not Catholic. They just have to sign over there tax money to the right school that they attend.

Next year we have a new school to go to. Our current school is 287 students. The new school will be close to 800 students. Our school is closing down because of the new school.

We always paid tuition to our parochial school. We were parishoners, so the tuition was about $2k per child. Non-parishioners paid over $3500 for one! You also had a minimum amount to contribute in the basket each week or you would lose the parishoner status. We also pay public school taxes each year. Those taxes are based on the public school district where you live. Every property owner pays, whether you have school kids or not. so, those of us who chose to send the kids to private schools paid big time.

My Mom complains all the time that she has to pay school taxes on her property when she doesn't have anymore kids in the system.

Wow I was never told how much to put in the Sunday basket. We do have private schools here too but never looked into them. I am sure they are very expensive to go too. So I guess we go to a Catholic public school....:rotfl2:

When I was very young, I thought "public" was a religion and you were either a Catholic or a public :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I thought the lasagna I made was really delish. However my youngest said it was good,but... NOT AS GOOD AS MOM-MOM'S :lmao: :lmao:

Take it from me Marita- it is so hard on the spirit to not be able to get around. I'm sure he was just trying to help :grouphug: When I was on crutches,I felt so useless.

our kids went to Parochial schools too......and then our grandkids went too.....when our kids attended and we paid big bucks to keep them there.....we still had to pay the taxes that went towards the public schools......our city does do some good stuff to the catholic schools.......they let them use the bus system, they get books ....

I was watching Everybody loves Raymond and I crack up every time I see these programs......they are all nuts ......but sooooooooo real life

Pumba- that's great that your kids got books and the use of the buses. We had to buy our girls' books and we drove them to and from school. We're glad we were able to afford to send them to Catholic school. They always looked so cute in their uniforms.

Shout out to my favorite California Girl, SID!!!

Twink, sounds like a fun day!

We just got back from the park for a pic-a-nic but it's really windy out today. The kids ate then played and played and played. I kept thinking, "That's right kids, run amuk so you'll nap like angels later..." and guess what? All are asleep now. So I'm off to do my chores like dishes, laundry, pot stirring, dog poop, etc.
Fun day for you too, Uma!!! But it's my turn to do the pot stirring this week

I was fortunate that my mom taught me how to cook for our family back when I was in junior high. So I learned all her recipes and my sisters call me occasionally when they want to make something like mom used to. I have some of the original cards from her recipe box too. I love coming across my mom's handwriting when I get in the mood to cook (which is NOT very often any more).

Maybe your hubby rode the scooter in the store, Marita! :moped:

Sorry your lunch got postponed.

300 MOO HOOOOOTY, POLY!!!!!!!!!!!!

And only 4 more days 'til your cruise!

Pumba, your homemade vanilla sounds yummy;)

I'm waiting to hear Betsy's cupcake report :woohoo:

Moo, I wrote down Mom's recipe's too, but it never turns out just as good as her's :confused3 She even dictated them to me.

the good thing about this home made vanilla is the cost.......120 proof vanilla is very expensive ......but this is only vodka and vanilla beans..

You cna get vanilla beans at your local health food stores or some supermarkets too.....the smell is outstanding........especially when you make homemade ice cream in the cranker with it......YUMMY

Marita, I think the trick to cooking like your mom or grandma is to have them there with you when you learn to make things so they can clue you in firsthand on their special touches.

We were given my hubby's grandma's Christmas sugar cookie recipe after she passed away and I was never able to come close to how she made them. But then, I never made them with her. I think the trick was in the type of margarine or butter she used.

Pumba, have you ever made homemade Kahlua? I don't drink coffee, but I like Kahlua.

I brought back vanilla from on of the Caribean Islands. Can't remember which one. It is really strong.

Hubby just came home with flowers and candy for me!!!!! I asked him "What did you do?" :lmao: He said it was just because he loves me! And I have been doing a lot stuff by myself because he is on course that takes a lot of self studying.

YUP.......made that quite a few years ago.....then got lazy and went thru Portsmouth NH and bought the real good kahlua ......still have that bottle.....can you tell I DRINK alot......
Nothing like HOME MADE......hahaha

For a real good treat.....we used to use the Kahlua ....with whole milk, and real good coffee ice cream and put that in the blender......this was the ultimate ......when the kids were little and now my kids have kids...well we would go camping down to Sebago Lake....we had a camping trailer and yet we had the conviences of home.....so electric blenders came to camp with us and my SIL and some of the other people in the camp ground ......we would make this at night after the little ones were sleeping....and sit by the fire ....sipping the best coffee (hightest) milkshake....

DEBBIE....sweet hubby.......give him a hug from the PIG
