Lil G, come on over to chat! We are there now.

ETA - dwats, you didn't make it over!

And we are OUTIE.

My eyes feel extremely heavy and my fingers are strill recovering from the other night. I might need splints for each finger just to recover.

I just wanted to stop by your parts of the pasture to say 'ellooooo before I crash/faint/pass out from lack of sleep. (no nap between church svc.
:sad2: ).

Have a Great Monday all! :thumbsup2

Just marking my spot.

I'm going to sleep fabulously tonight! LAST night was awe-FUL! OY!

Riley and Dallen had camped out in the living room in their sleeping bags and in the middle of the night, about 5 inches away from my sound asleep face, he loudly whispers, "MOM....MOM, wake up! I'm scared!" No I did not offer soothing words of tell him to snuggle with me for a while, I said something like, "Well I am Sorry you are scared, GO TO BED" ....or something else heartless and mean. I have issues with falling asleep and staying asleep so I HATE to be woken up unless there's blood or fire (even then, wait till the last minute  ). He still was scared, I guess he was REALLY scared to risk waking me up a second time, so I imagined him having an internal battle with himself whether or not to wake up his freaky mama. This time I was semi-kind and comforted him.

A couple hours later, Norah is in my face wanting a sippy cup of water. Sooooo I didn't sleep well but I slept in for EVER! :cloud9:

I think my fantasy night is soooo different then other women's. MINE would include a beautiful hotel room with soft music playing, a comfy bed, roses, and NO ONE ELSE! No phone, and a big fat Do Not Disturb thingy hanging off the door knob. (If Jack Sparrow and/or Will Turner show up, they wouldn't be turned away, but other than that...NO WAKEY!) I just want 8 hours of sleep in a ROW!

Ya, then I'd worry that my kids were eating frosting for breakfast and hurry home.

morning.....trash was just picked up .....I had to have it all out at the curbside by seven am......sometimes they come right on the seven oclock...the recycleables are still outside......she had the cleanest cans and jars that anyone could put out to the street......I rinse once or twice and that is it.....but hers are spotless.....she must of had 2 dozen jars and cans and milk jugs ready for the trash men......oy oy oy..the job ahead of us today will be hot and muggy up there........i will go up pretty soon and open all the windows and see if we can get the air in......her ac had not been put in yet......
Today our granddaughter starts full time work at the vets......she interned all winter and loved it so much........The four vets like her and she blends in good with the other ten assistants........she will work there until almost the end of August......when she goes to college......yesterday she took a math test on line and did three parts.....each part was worth 20 and she got one 20 and two 16's...so she passed that ......this college does not accept AP Calculus but she said it was okey cause she loves MATH.....

see ya later gators

Morning All,

It is going to be a very hot day. Really hot by the end of the week.

Mommy P - you picked a good day to go to the beach.

UMA -- I would love the same thing. My only problem is I should myself to bed earlier. Only an odd time do the kids wake me up.

It wouldn't be frosting they would be eating it would be my chocolate chips. I have caught them before when I think what good children they are letting me sleep only to come down and find chocolate chips on the floor. They give themselves away.

Lil'g -- Don't know about the vinegar and sunburns. Sounds scary to me.

Pumba -- my mom does the same thing with her recycle jars etc. She even runs them though the dishwasher . Not me. rinse and out they go.

Little Blue-- sounds like you need a break....

Good Morning!

Not much new here. Just hitting the grocery store and doing :laundy:

Hope that you all have a good one! :goodvibes

Hi Kelly!!! So nice to see you :goodvibes 21 days!!!!!!! I'm jealous ;) I want a gym for DD too! Just have to get DH to build it! Our weather is great today, hopefully yours will improve!

Good morning all! I would consider a frosting or chocolate chip breakfast a fair trade to this mythical "sleep in"

Wow Pumba- trash day for me too but our trash doesn't come till almost 5 pm. Wierd huh?

Hi Betsy! Hi Kelly!- Happy packing! I am still dealing with odds and ends (block of velveeta cheese, free to a good home)

So what picture would YOU put on the side of a uhaul to capture the spirit of South Dakota?????

you are never going to guess so here it is..... (my camera cords are packed thus I can't upload any pictures but it is amazing what you can find on the internet)

Moo: I love banana nut crunch cereal. In fact, after reading your post, I think I'll have some!

Pumba: Good to see you again! Hope you got all that mess sorted out.

Marita
: Did you feel like you were in that movie "Groundhog's Day" where he kept reliving the same day over and over again? Wonder why 4/29?

Betsy: Hi! Did ya hear I chatted the other night? But you weren't there. Next time I expect to see you.

Twinks: you weren't at the chat either!! :guilty: and LBlue and I made our big debut!! I think somebody mentioned South Dakota too. You should have been there. You know what's funny? One of the boys that we rodeo with will be a senior in high school next year. Well, he took a summer job in South Dakota. He's working in the Black Hills taking tourists on horseback rides. I asked him "You mean, you're momma's gonna let you go for the whole summer?" (he's an only child and dad is no longer around) He said "When I graduate, I'm moving there to work on a ranch. She knows it's just a matter of time before I'm gone anyway." It seems like yesterday he was an elementary school kid, and now he's growed up to be a cowboy!

LilG: I missed Paris' party. Did you make it?:rotfl:

T: How are you? Did you need me to come watch TJ and siblings, so you can sneak in a nap? I promise dd and I won't fight over the baby TOO much.;)

UtahM:
Ok, I'll admit my fantasy night isn't zackly like yours, but when you threw in Cpt. Jack it certainly became more interesting. Of course, I'm thinking anytime you throw a pirate in the mix, things become MUCH more interesting, but that is just a hypothesis. I'd certainly like to prove that somehow.

Nab: Good morning. Any chocolate chips on the floor this morning?

My weekend was crazy busy, but I'm glad to see you guys this morning. Hope all is well in the pasture.

I know you all are just dying for more information so I found the following

Believe it or not, the fossilized remains of the largest sea turtle that roamed the Earth was found in the grassy plains of South Dakota. This giant marine turtle, known as the Archelon ischyros, lived about 70 million years ago during the Cretaceous period. During this time, the colossal turtle swam gracefully through the muddy waters of a prehistoric seaway that divided North America. This shallow body of water was called the Western Interior Seaway, and it flowed from north-central Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. South Dakota was once a small portion of this prehistoric seaway's muddy bed.

The extinct marine giant may have lived along side the dinosaurs, but the prehistoric Archelon was clearly no dinosaur. This marine reptile belonged to the Order Chelonia and the Family Protostegidae and is believed to be a relative of the modern-day, endangered Leatherback Sea Turtle.

The prehistoric Archelon ischyros had paddle-like legs that served as flippers, so the creature could swim. It also had a fairly narrow and highly vaulted shell that was unlike that of most modern-day turtles in that it did not have solid shell bones. Researchers believe the Archelon had either a leathery covering or horny plates over the bony framework on its back.

One distinct characteristic of this gigantic marine turtle was its tremendous overbite. While Archelon's beak had no cutting edge, the turtle's heavy mandible, thick palate and hooked beak produced a deadly bite. Since the Archelon was a carnivore (meat-eater), this large, powerful jaw served the creature well. Its curved beak also kept food in its mouth while being crushed. The Archelon may have used its beak to dig for food, as well.

Additional characteristics of the Archelon include a long, narrow head and a pointed tail. While the average Archelon typically reached lengths of nine to 13 feet, the largest specimen found spanned 16 feet from snout to tail. Its shell alone measures seven feet, three inches.

In 1895, the first Archelon fossil was found by G. R. Wieland at the south fork of the Cheyenne River, 35 miles east of Black Hills, South Dakota. This specimen measures almost 11 feet from snout to tail, and when fully stretched out, it measures 15 feet from the flipper to flipper. This giant Archelon skeleton has been on display Yale University's Peabody Museum of Natural History in New Haven, Connecticut since 1907.

While fossilized remains of the giant Archelon ischyros have been found throughout the states of South Dakota, Kansas and Nebraska, the largest and most complete specimen ever found was unearthed from the soil in southwestern South Dakota, near the Cheyenne River at Buffalo Gap during the mid-1970s. This particular specimen was discovered by a private collector who later sold it to Siber and Siber of Switzerland. Siber and Siber then sold the Archelon skeleton to the Naturhistorisches Museum Wien (NMW) in Vienna, Austria, where it has been on exhibit since 1982. This ancient creature is referred to as the Vienna specimen of Archelon ischyros and, to date, was the largest turtle to have inhabited our planet.

With folded arms and head bowed when discovered, this giant sea turtle is said to have died while brumating (hibernating) on the seafloor. Much of the Vienna specimen's skeleton had been very well-preserved due to being embedded in a limestone concretion. The rest of the specimen, exposed to the elements for 70 million years, were weathered and crushed by compaction. For this reason, the snout to tail measurement of 15 feet, 1 inch was several inches shorter than the giant creature's actual measurements when it was alive and swimming in the Western Interior Seaway. It is estimated that the Vienna specimen of Archelon was approximately 16 feet from snout to tail, 13 feet wide, flipper to flipper and weighed 11,300 pounds.

Since Archelon fossils are extremely rare, representatives from the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research went to Austria to make a cast of the skeletal remains of the Vienna specimen to make identical replicas of the fossil for domestic and international museums. One such replica can be viewed at Reptile Gardens in Rapid City, South Dakota -- just 20 miles from its excavation site.

Representatives from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology have found two Archelon skeletons in the shale banks near Pierre, South Dakota. One specimen was found in 1996 and the other was found in 1998. According to Dr. Jim Martin, a geology professor at the school who was on both digs, "We were able to recover about 70 percent of the skeleton that was found in 1996. The skeleton that was found in 1998 was much more complete." Dr. Martin said that both specimens are roughly the same size and estimated that from the tips of their flippers the creatures were 15 feet wide and the snout to tail measurement is about 12 feet. Both Archelon fossils are currently being prepared for display at the school's geology museum.

:rotfl: Who said the dis wasn't educational?:rotfl:

Twinks: You are quite the resourceful person! Who knew so many interesting facts about SD?

Last edited by TwinkieMama : Today at 09:51 AM. Reason: I missed BN and Lil-blue in chat? wah! :( I can chat tonight if anyone is around :)

I haven't chatted with Twinkie since days of yore T: Can we make a chat tonight? I'll have to check my fictional book of things to do this summer and see if I can pencil you guys in tonight.:rotfl:

I'm moooving on for now, and LBlue said to tell you guys "Buh Bye". I'm sure we'll both be back later. Maybe at chat.:woohoo:

Have a good morning everybody.

No chocolate chips on the floor this morning.

School morning I get them up and running. This morning it was left over pancakes from the night before.

Twinkie -- to funny finding that on the internet.

I am slowing getting my house back in order after the weekend. Everything ends up on the end of my kitchen counter some how.

Kelly -- lucky you get to go away. I don't think I ever stayed on vacation more then a week. 11 days sound heavenly.

Well we we go camping and traveling we have done more then 7 days but never in one place 7 days.

I wish we could do back to back cruise that would be great. Speaking of cruising wonder what Poly is doing right now?

I've been trying to get 'caught up' on this thread for a while, but every time I get caught up, I'm behind again. I saw several of my favorite posters(Uma, Twinkie, GMax, Nabs) and wanted to join in. Goog reading. Managed a few posts, so I wanted to just say hi and Moo to all.
One question for Twinkiemom:
This shallow body of water was called the Western Interior Seaway, and it flowed from north-central Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. South Dakota was once a small portion of this prehistoric seaway's muddy bed.

I wonder, who called it Western Interior Seaway? The turtles? And I knew about the Seaway because every year in elementary school they showed a filmstrip that mentioned it and said it went as far south of Louisville,KY. Which is where I was in elementary school, probably why we saw it every year.

Awww... Donald that is so sweet but don't worry about catching up- just jump in and join the fun.

I love your question! Do you believe I was wondering the same thing.... Maybe the turtles liked the sound of it... hmmm..... goog question!

I must say I had never heard of the Western Interior Seaway but as we all know in elementary school I was busy learning the lyrics to Elvis songs, marriage advice, and all things Daniel Boone:teacher:

Well just finished the task of ironing. Wish I had someone to do it for me.;)

Some if was good clothes from two weeks ago so they won't be appearing anytime soon. Now it I could get Hannah to wear shorts instead of dresses....

Twinkie-- I am glad you said Daniel Boone and not Pat Boone...:lmao:

DonaldTDuck -- Just jump right in. If anything really big happened someone would recap.

The last swimming lesson of this session is tonight. I see McDonald's for dinner if she passes ( which we already know she does :) ) Had to do summer sign up on Saturday and we had to know what level to join. Signed up for every morning for three weeks straight starting July 3. That should keep them out of trouble for a bit.

we managed to clean out stuff in three hours.......and only made a dent in the bathroom and a side room we always called the Cats room.....we had a big cat cage in there and Sir Chester Yak of Pearl Harbor would go to sleep in that room..but we managed to put some bureaus in there and the cedar chest and STUFF>.....
we filled 5 or so more trash bags and a few trash cans.......I need to take a shower now.....my mother is 92 and lived at home until February.....and SHE REFUSED any one to come in and clean......so the dust is amazing......I am wondering if it is someone that is coming or going.......hahahaha...
We found more photos of my mom, my grandmother, my great grand mother and great great grandmother.....and oh yah the men too but the women photos are amazing.....
