MOOvin' Along - Goog Times, Goog Friends . . . Part 2

Luthor - Chad's family has very werid last names as well and they are not very creative as far as first names. You have lots of Michaels(which we already used as Jeremiah's first name) and Lynns which we changed to Linn and used as Kaleb's middle name. Plus Chad wouldn't want to name our kids after anyone in his family because they are all crazy and scary.

Marita - Handwash and dry flat. LOL! That would be difficult with a baby blanket since they have to be washed all the time! I don't even handwash anything I own, I put it on a gentle cycle and hope for the best. ;)

I don't know what the difference in "regular blanket" and "receiving blanket" sizes are.

Celery - I think I decided on a size for burp cloths. I think it was 14x10.

Kaleb is trying to start the dishwasher. Yikes!

I'm off to start school.

PS. It rained yesterday! Yay! Finally! A good rain and then overcast(ness). So we went for a walk. Probably close to 2 miles. It felt soooo good to get some exercise. I told Chad we need to start walking a few times a week so I don't get big as a house. Plus it will help me to feel better and hopefully I won't be dying in Sept then!

YES! Family names. They don't have to be your family names. We used a simple first name and a family name in the middle for all the kids.

This struck me funny as I am picturing you asking friends and neighbors for family trees so you could find some "family" names. Tee hee. Ooops. Maybe that is what you did. :confused3 Our family surnames are completely unusable as first names. Either too ethnic or too common and one may or may not be a civil war general and we all know what happens when you name your kid one of those names (see Forrest Gump). We tried to use Lexi's method and ran out of decent family names pretty quickly. Goldenchild has a surname as a middle name, named after a scientist/humanitarian we both admire. How geeky is that? But it is a cool name. I just need to start scouring the list of Noble Peace Prize winners for Grasshopper. J/k. Maybe.

Note to self: Never tell school officials you are a nurse, they will use this information against you.

Sage advice there Cowgirl. I will never ever tell school officials I am a nurse.

Dre! You must know all about the big Lexington! My office mate at work lives in Wilmore and attended ATS. I only get out to Wilmore during Ichthus.

Ah yes. Lexington. Do you remember Hills Dept. Store? I worked there until they closed it. Then I worked in the day care at Trinity Hills United Methodist Church. NOT my favorite job. My boss was a *****. :lmao:

Ichthus. It's so cool to know someone who actually knows that that is! :woohoo: Hubby and I worked that event one year (he did two) as security in the sales tent over night. For working we got free passes and got to see Steven Curtis Chapman. The temperature that night that we stayed in the tent fell into the 30's and we about froze our asps off! I wasn't quite sure that it was worth it! And OH MY the people that flood the town. Quite amazing.

That little convenience store on the corner that used to be Pa's Country Store? Yep. I worked there the first year that we lived in Wilmore. Alas. It is no more. It has new owners and they've changed the decor. The huge stuffed bear is gone. :sad1: :lmao: (The dust mites left with it. )

We went to visit our old haunts while we are on vacation. Lots has changed and lots hasn't. Weird really.

Steph-At least you remember in time! :rolleyes1 :cool2:

mommyp - I vote for Noah. I love that name.

Java - I know the feeling. I don't have kids yet, but things are so hectic right now, I keep remembering stuff I forgot.
Like this weekend -
we're taking my granny out since she just turned 92, we're keeping the kids and we're delivering the mattress and box springs to Tammy's coworker.
But I know there was something else we were supossed to do.
Argh!

Twinks - how much does it cost to get the bus to come pick up DS? 2 miles seems like a long way to walk to school. Especially in this heat!

 for the first day of Kindergarten!

bn - EWWWWW on the lice screening! I was never good at that when my parents had the daycare.

Hi everyone!
My head hurts. :(

Hey there!

Just back from Sam's Club. Bought $440 worth of shtuff for all the many events going on at church this weekend. I've come to the conclusion that they really should send an intern with me on those huge shopping trips.

Twinkie....I did not comb the neighborhood for family names but that is a goog idea! I probably could've come up with something better. We have geneologists on both sides of the family so we had to go back many generations to find some names we liked. So they are actually our family names but not any family we ever knew. Make sense?

MommyP....Noah is good! I like Noah! I also like Daniel. I wanted to name DS William but was forced to use the DH and DFIL name for the heir to the throne. I think I told Twinkie this before but I also love little boys with grandpa names like Joe, Henry, George, and Frank.

Dre....I love that you know all about Lexington and Wilmore! I chaperoned our youth trip to Ichthus one year and thunderstorm siren went off about 20 minutes after we arrived. Good thing they move Ichthus to summer. The April rains were always a spoiler.

Cel...I'm sorry your head hurts.

BNCG
....Have fun with the lice. Heh. ;)

Lex - Do you work for the church or volunteer? I know you work part time, but I can't remember for who.
Or is that whom?

Y'all. Seriously.
Utah is so funny!
She posted a "trip report" on making a skirt on the sewing thread.

:rotfl2:

I'm gonna repost it.
Even though it's got some sewing terms in it, and if you don't know sewing, just skip over that part.

I'm so glad we're going to get to meet her!

Did you know you can't just quote. How weird. So this is some garbage at the top so it will let me post it.
A Twirley Skirt Trip Report! Don't read if you're squeamish...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Evidently, y’all wear your best smarty pants when sewing. A factoid no one enlightened me on.

After procuring ½ - 1 yard of Walmarshay’s finest Halloween-esque fabric, in various tones of purples, blacks and oranges with a little lime for good measure (I’m not a muggle after all) in prints, dots, plaids, solids with coordinating ric-rac (which until a month ago I called “brick-brack,” shhhh!) thread, “punkin” buttons, tulle, etc. I was all set to tackle a algabraic equasion of the twirly-skirt.

How hard can it be? I AM smarter than a 5th grader after all!

First of all I have to measure Norah’s (dd2) wee- little waist (again). “Comemere baby girl, mama needs to measure your tummy (again)” and she sighed and accomodated me (again). “21 inches” roughly the measurement of my right thigh (on a good day- 20 years ago). Ok, we have a “given” to the algebra. Finally using algebra *cough30* years later!

Waist = 21 inches, or A . “A” will also equal the yoke or casing layer. A mini first tier. Not in the original “plan” but I’m remembering someone posting that the elastic waist band takes a lot of fabric weight and may droop funky.

A2= B second tier …42 inches long. Good grief, she’s 2! Won’t that be huge on her? Will it sit better on her waist with my taking liberties with the math?

B2= C third tier 84 inches! Breathe.

I went to cut and suddenly remembered I had not washed and dried all the new fabric first. I KNOW that can’t be good, so I wash it all in warm and dry. And iron. With my new Sunbeam.

NOW, I cut. When I get to C, I don’t have enough pumpkin fabric due to my OCD about matching the pattern repeat on the strips. So I have to drag all my kids to the Walmart fabric department. Not an easy task. But I’m determined.

That ½ yard also needs to be laundered and dried. So I load up the washing machine with a like colored load.

2 ½ hours later, I iron and cut the final strip and add it to the endlessly long tier C. I think it could have reached the moon and back...

First I sewed the elastic casing. All went well until I also sewed the elastic door closed. This should have been my omen of not good things to come.

I seam-rip open the door and start the zig zag stitch to begin the gathering of B. I have no ruffler foot. So I do a small zig zag and grab a needle and double layer of thread to go under the zigs and zags. My thread didn’t break (yet) so I pinned it to the bottom of A. After 5 or 20 pins, I realize I didn’t have RIGHT sides together. And re do. Rookie mistake. Then struggle a little with equi-distant gathers, but do my best and go ahead and sew B to A.

Now I’m looking into the eye of the beast. 84 inches of grinning pumpkins waiting to also be ruffled. I know, I can read the DIS whilst I hand gather the final tier. All is going well until I realize the initial anchoring stitch I did came undone and I was going under the zigzags with no anchor. GRRRRR! I betcha I went all the way around twice. Maybe more. Double Grrr!

I re-anchor very firmly and start over. Time to pin C onto B.

BUT! But The gathered part of C refuses to match up with the straight edge of B. I pin and repin and RE- repin till it’s right. I’m relieved it’s finally time to sew. I’m relieved to tell you: Right sides were together this time. I seriously would have imitated Donald Duck and needed court required anger management classes….

I put the machine on “speed Racer” and am thrilled at the progress. When my final stitch was stitched, I raised the needle and raised the foot and discovered I was out of bobbin thread about 3 miles ago. Uh Huh!

I need a time out!

Or a “drinkie” so I pour myself a tall one (diet Pepsi) and load my bobbin as full as possible with orange.

And re-PIN, since I had pulled out the pins as I sew’d. And re-spaced the ruffles just so and sewed it allllll over again. This time on “slow down, curves ahead” speed. This last section took most of the day.

The hem went off without a hitch. All 5 miles of it. I grabbed my pinking shears and cleaned up the tons of bulky seams and nicked a part of the skirt! UGGGH! Maybe I’ll cover the nick with orange ric-rac?

I insert the elastic and sew it into it's new home.

Then I took a good hard look at the Twirly Skirt from heck and tried it onto my dd who twirled and achieved a FULL blown horizontal twirl. Her first! She twirled and twirled till she was dizzy.

She said she “loves it so much”.

It will go with her new yet to be decorated Children’s Place orange T shirt and matching hair bows and black leggings.

Heh heh, too exhausted to post it tonight. I kinda like it! And using my fuzzy disney math, I saved a bundle not buying on Voldemort !!! More money to hand to the Mouse in September!

Yes, I just Trip Reported my skirt!!!

It's beautiful!

Hi, everyone!

Twink, how did the twinkietwins and DS do at school today?

Melinda, thanks for the kind words about my lovely state! Grand Haven is one of my favorite places to visit  I haven't spent much time in Harbor Springs though.

My hubby got back from his travels tonight. He was in Mackinaw City yesterday and brought home some FUDGE! Mmmmmmmm . . . but no pasties, since he didn't have a way to keep them frozen.

 Not quite sure what dirt pile you're referring to, Lil G!!!

As for green pastures, it has been a bit droughty here this summer. Our lawns and pastures are kind of brown . . .

Cel, thanks for sharing Uma's Skirt Report!!!!!!!!!!!

Too funny, Uma :rotfl:

I'll post a picture of the "Twirley Skirt and the Series of Unfortunate Events" later. It is DONE! With matchy-matchy hair bows.

Y'all: PLEASE keep your eyes out for little girls black mary jane CROCS in size 9/10(?) Preferably the new "Alice" ones that don't have holes.

We're watching The Little Mermaid! Again!

It's at my very most favorite part...

"I admit that in the past I was a nasty.
They weren't kidding when they called me, well, a witch...."

MAN! I love me some Ursula! She's got it going ON!

I love when she says "..and don't underestimate body language!" Uh Huh!

I'm sooooo not her. I like her though!

my daddys name was Azellus......no way no how was our kid going to end up with a family name......I mean that sincerely......although I loved my ddaddy so much......YIKES
My granddaughter came today and she was flying high again......she going to college is all she can think about.....two weeks......I shall miss her so much...she has three classes with labs and calculus and one intro to college for one credit....she is flying high......

did I tell you that my mama called at ten thirty alst night......i finally called the nurses station and asked them to go to mama and see what she wants sissors for.....and to do what she is yelling for me to come there at ten thirty at night.....I was laughing but I am pooped so not laughing anymore...
See ya later gators

That sure IS an interesting name, Pumba! My DD always laughed at some of the names in my DH's family, like Waldo (that was a middle name).

Goog luck to your granddaughter. Starting college is always a big, exciting step in life!!!

So I got unprecedented energy tonight, and headed to Wal-Mart about 7:30pm for yarn. (plus my 4mm needle fell between couch cushions, and I cant get it) Guess what? They eliminated the whole fabric/yarn/sewing dept! Looks like it got replaced by a much larger Electronics dept. So then I went to K-Mart, a few blocks down the road, same thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was hoping to start this weekend on the blanket, but it looks like that will have to wait, I certainly will have to order from online ( I doubt I will get a second spurt energy to visit a store 30 mins away this weekend)

MommyP, the blanket might be a tad late;)

I emailed the boss tonight to see if I could work from from home tomorrow. Cross everything please!

Yes, Pumba, your DGD has every reason to be excited!

Hi everyoone! I am so far behind today......

I just posted THE SKIRT on the kid boutique sewing thread. It looks like a giant watermelon on the side view. A Halloween colored watermelon. Really!

It matches this bow...

P8163680.jpg

which was the last photo I posted so I just re-posted it (ctr-v)

Goog night goog friends.

GOOG MORNING!

Wendy! That is the cutest bow! I'm impressed! Is that what the bow maker was about? I love the little twisty-hair do underneath too! :cutie:

Cel....I do work at the church. I love, love, love my job and all the people that I work with. Just can never be full time or with any benefits since the church can't afford to do that for support staff. I know I'll have to get a full-time job soonish with DD going to college next year. Or maybe God will make a way for us to do it without the full time job.

MOO....I love Mackinaw! We always went in August and all the flowers were in full bloom at the little gingerbread cottages. We rental the obligatory bikes and peddled around the island. Got off and walked up the many, many stairs to the lookout point on top...just breathtaking! And we rode our bikes up to the Grand Hotel when you could still do that. (I think they stop you at a gate or something now.) Grand Haven was also gorgeous but I think my favorite spot was Bay View which is an old Methodist camp. We rented a cottage and stayed a week.....very relaxing and just plain wonderful. Also drove down to Charlevoix for dinner. Here's the tourism web site.

Marita!....I hope all Walmarts are not getting rid of crafts/fabric/notions. It's my one-stop shop. I get lost at Michaels.

Dre....Did you attend church in Lexington, Wilmore or Nicholasville? I have a good friend who is a member at FUMC Nicholasville. I know a lot of Asbury students go there.

Lil G....I'm sorry I missed your castles! They are beautiful! Our favorite Cincy weekend is to get a room at the Netherland Plaza (a corner room cause they're bigger) and just hang out for the weekend. The hotel is connected by over-the-street pedways to dining (Palamino's) and shopping (mall and also Tiffany's & Brooks Bros.) so you really don't even have to go outside! It's good adult fun! Last time we did venture out to the famous steak places....The Precinct and Jack Ruby's (?). Does that sound right? I saw Chillacothe on the map of the castle and you are very close to Cincy!

EVERYBODY..... :wave2:

Trivia then shower. See ya!

We attended Trinity Hill UMC in Lexington. We both worked there and it made sense to attend there too.

We tried the church in Nicholasville but we sat in the "wrong" seat and was slapped with some old biddies eyes during church. We didn't go back. :lmao: :lmao:
