Welcome home Marita !!! did you cry?
EEk Nab, sounds scary!
No, I did not cry. The swearing in ceremony was both solemn and funny. People laughed at some points, or eewed (?) and ahhed at little kids being called up to pin the gold bars on their dads. I think DS got closest to crying when his dad came up to give him his first salute. But it was all good.
I was quite amazing watching the young men and women march up on the stage in formation, doing drills, all perfectly timed together at the beginning of the ceremony. Then some short speeches, and individuals were called up on stage to be sworn it (again!), by whomever they chose that was their superior at the time. Chris chose his High School friend who graduated just 6 weeks ago. They did a perfect job! (not everyone did) A couple even turned around to read from a board instead of repeating after whomever, but they made it funny and people laughed in good fun.
Then any friends or family the person selected were called up to pin on the gold bars (I was so nervous I would drop things, or even go on stage, but it was fine, (oh they announced that his mother MARIA (grrrrr) and sister Nicole would pin him) and then, if they had a suitable person, that person gave them their first salute. Chris was saluted by his father, former army seargent Mike M.
It was touching, but I did not cry. I think it's the closest DS got to crying, he had to look away when his dad came up.
After that was the parade. 104 degrees in Alabama (thanks, Aliie! kidding!)
They had High up officials review the parade, then 2 F-16 Fighter jets flew overhead, while the graduates threw their caps into the air.
As I said earlier, all the pics I took sucked, except one maybe. Here is DS and DD:
There was lots of hugging and ribbing and rejoicing after the parade by the graduates.Chris' friend Nick, who swore him in, said Basic Training was Hell. He said, they make it all sound so great, but it's Hell, for the first few weeks at least. Then it gets better. He said, didnt he call you and say "Mommy, I want to come home?" I said no. He said, well I did! (I think he was kidding, sort of, but not really)
On the way out of the base, Chris proclaimed "I AM FREE"!!!
Anyway, today Chris went out to visit his good friend and former boss at Pizza Hut in his full dress uniiform, and then his uncle to buy a car. Gotta show off a little, right?
He is out tonight celebrating with friends. It's his birthday even. Turned 29 today. Got in the program, he was "age critical", whew!
He leaves Saturnight Night or Sunday morning for Texas, but living off base in his own apartment. No more getting up at 4:30 and sleeping without covers because there is no time to make the bed.
Well, I guess that was the gist of my trip after all, LOL

Sorry it was so HOT! It is quite pleasant here today, if you'd like to come up here again and give us another try.
Luckily, both my kids got lucky and have air conditioned buses this year. It was over a 100 on the first day of school too. Makes for a very hot bus ride home.
Did I say that already? I can't remember.
