Pumba - bbn wil be happy to hear that story about her BFF (Stephen King)! Hope your snow has abated. It hasn't been snowing here, thank googness, but it's very cold. I was out shopping this afternoon and evening and it was only 6 degrees on my way home tonight. But I picked up a couple more kinds of tea to try at Teavana and a bigger tea brewer, so that'll help keep me warm!

Marita - Hope you and your hubby stay warm tonight! I didn't figure you'd agree with MommyP on the cooler weather

I don't really like being at WDW when it gets that chilly  Hope Peej is having fun though.

Nabbie - Sorry Joe had to get back to work. It's hard after being off for a while. I didn't like working earlier this week, but I didn't have enough time to take off. Too much vacationing earlier in the year.

Lil G - Our next DVC vacation is at Hilton Head in late May - I figured we would try something a little different because my family doesn't like to go to WDW every year  Sooo, I may do a long weekend trip to WDW with my cousin this spring to get some more use out my annual pass and we will just stay at a value probably.

Mony - How'd the pierogies turn out? I'm telling you, I was about ready to drive over your way for a sample! I am taking a little break from strict dieting over the holidays. My weight is up a couple pounds but I'm still exercising, so I'm sure it will start going back down once I start tracking my calories again on Monday.

Sandy - How's your hip feelin'? Getting any training in? My sister got me EA Active for the Wii and the fast walking/running in place is kicking my butt!

Moo how are you doing? The Wii Fit sounds like a good idea - DH and I were thinking of getting one (before he was laid off!) I think the most important thing is to pick something and just do it - be consistent! (I mean well, but I sure havent followed thru!) I hear you on the holiday "snacking" (indulging?!)

THIS is going to be "my" year!! (DH wants to sign up for the Goofy for '11 if all goes well next week...)

Pumba still dont like snow? I say its not the snow that's the problem - its the COLD - the BELOW Zero COLD!! Brrrrr

Mony I'm going to join Moo for a taste of your famous periogis (I still have never had one!)

Lil G Good luck with the DVC reservation - what a dream BLT!! When's your 11 month window? I appreciate being able to rent -

Marita I hear there is a freeze warning for FLORIDA?!! WTH? I guess that's still 30 - 40 degrees warmer than what we have today!!! I'm ready - I'm now packing those hand warmer, foot warmer thingys - just pray for NO RAIN during our mornings (saturday 2am - 11am, Sunday 2AM - 2Pm dh will be done by 11am - that man is fast!! LOL)

PJ Hope you have some good stories to share!

BBN How are things? Are you finding time for you? Saving lives? kicking butt?

Chiropractor is working miracles on my hip :yay: When I mentioned my plantar fascia (sp?) he went to work on that too!! I just pray I dont get swept!! 16 min mile is all well and good - for maybe 3 miles, 6 tops (that's at MK!! after the run thru the castle!) but then I start to get slower, and slower... and if the hip pain kicks in before mile 10 I'm doomed!!!

Sandy - I really admire you for all the marathons you do! I can't even run half a block!

Cold Fl. Weather - I never asked to live here. We HATE the warm Florida temps. Would never have chosen this, we just got stuck here. lol. It never gets as cold down here as Marita gets in Orlando though. Or lows don't usually get lower than mid 30's and thats rare.

Wii Fit - I could use one, though I doubt I'd use it long. lol. I HATE exercising. :o)

My babies didn't sleep last night. Ellie cried for a couple hours, than Isaac. They both wanted to be in my bed(too cold for them), but I can't have Isaac in there with Ellie because it's not safe. So we had a long night. Tonight the heat is going to have to be set warmer for them. (too bad Chad)

It's supposed to be highs in the lower 60's all week. Finally! We have a menu of soups all week since we don't get much chance to eat soup throughout the year.

I don't actually have Wii Fit, I have the Biggest Loser and EA Sports Active fitness "games". My sister has offered to loan me her Wii Fit to try out though. I may have her bring that tomorrow night when we meet for dinner.

I do fine with the upper body workout moves, but my knees just cannot do most of the running/lunging/squatting they call for  On the BL game, you can just skip things, but on Active you wear a sensor around your thigh and it can sense when you're not doing exercises or are doing them incorrectly :headache: However, on that one, you do have the option of eliminating exdercises from each program.

One thing that I find interesting is that the calories burned seem to be MUCH lower on the BL vs. Active :confused3 So I take the calories burned information with a grain of salt. I like doing the yoga on BL (had never tried yoga IRL), but there are a few things that my knee issues limit me from doing so I haven't progressed beyond the lowest intensity yet.

Sandy - I'm glad to hear that the chiropractor is doing his magic! You might want to try taking some fish oil - that really helps reduce joint inflammation. Which reminds me that I haven't taken any for a couple days. No wonder the joints in my hands hurt today.

MP unfortunately you shouldnt admire me - I'm only doing the half so I can go to Disney - I'm not putting in the work, effort, and dieting to do it right... I want to change that attitude of mine for my NYE Resolution - I thought I had with all the trauma we went thru with DS in the hospital and planning on the Half Marathon - where did I break down?

Moo Fish oil - eww I keep burping that up!! I take glucosimine chontrodin (I finally found some at Target that were coated and smaller - I have swallowing issues) That has helped along with the gel of glucosimine I apply it and massage it on my knee - it really has helped! (I got it at Walgreens Stryd something - Puppy just fell asleep or I'd get up and get it!!)

Thanks for the BL Active Suggestion - if we get a WII I'll remember that!!

The weather is looking colder and colder :rotfl2: What to wear at 2AM that will not be cumbersome at 9am? I am so buying those hand warmers, foot warmers!! Heat thingys

Sandy - I usually take my fish oil right before bed so I don't usually have fishy burps! I take a lemon-flavored liquid fish oil (easier to get down than a bunch of capsules) with a chaser of something good tasting ;)

My hubby found a bunch of hand warmers the other day when he was trying on his blaze orange camo hunting jacket trying to decide whether to donate it to Goodwill. It wasn't too huge, so he kept it. He was going to toss them, but I don't really think they go bad.

... you read with great interest about the 10 best cars recommended for seniors, and that's NOT for your parents

DH went to bed (without warning) at about 1:30 or so today. I thought I had till at least 2pm to take a shower, but when I looked in at 2, he was asleep. This means I have to take a shower and wash my hair sometime at 11 pm tonight, which I know I will be in NO mood for  I could use the other bathroom, but I don't have shampoo, access to underwear or bathtowels from there. GRRRRR. And taking a shower in the morning is not in question, as I am perpetually running late in the mornings............

My 16 yr old dog gave me a good scare this afternoon. He was in the bathroom, when I heard a loud bark. Well, he had fallen and could not get up (again - bad hips). So I dragged him the short distance to the carpet, and he got up, but he could not get his one back leg to support him, and he kept falling down. I was thinking now what?? DO I wake up DH, who would not be happy? Call DD at work to come home? DS is thousands of miles away, no help... And I cant pick him up by myself, way too big. Anyway, I just let him rest for a while and he recovered, Whew!

Moo and Sandy, I don't even know what hand warmers are, but they sure do sound like a great accessory. I sure could use some tomorrow walking into work. Yes, freezing here Sandy!! :sad1:

Sandy, you are participating in the race, that's great just by itself. And if your hip gives you trouble, just take it and say so be it, you did what you could and you ran at Disney :thumbsup2 Don't beat yourself up over it.

DS installed his new GAS stove and a new dishwasher yesterday by himself (well, with a friend). I'm glad he didn't blow up the house, LOL. Although as of yesterday, he had not used it yet. Maybe I should call and make sure ...........

MP, I feel for you with 2 crying babies all night, and then having to deal with the other kids all day. Definitely turn the heat up! That reminds me, I need to find some old sheets I have for these occasions and cover up some plants (the only 2 that aren't dead yet, just noticed today some outsiide pots actually have BLOOMS!)

I have been working most of the weekend (again!). But I think I'm done for now. Need to figure out what to eat tonight, hmmmm. Pierogies sound goog!

Brr it is cold here too! Trying to snow too but it is really just light with a lot of drifting. Good day to stay in.

Pumba-- I read a thread about Stephen King doing that, what a great guy. I am reading his latest book. That is why I haven't been on much ....the book is huge, got it for Christmas.

Moo-- I think the two games you have are almost like the Wii fit anyway you just don't have to stand on the board. I heard the active one is a real good work out. I really should get off my duff like everyone else the first of the year does. I have no excuses really I do own a treadmill just need to get on the thing.

The reason Hubby is back at on shift is he didn't pass his last test. All the tests up to this one he did but with out this one he can't go further. I feel like we lost 2 years because he was never home. But I guess I am happy he still has a job to go back too. He has plenty of vacation time saved up because of it though. There is a difference in pay so now he is working over time this week. I can't win....

Hand Warmers:

hothands.jpg

Hand warmers are small (sometimes disposable) packets which are held in the hand and produce heat on demand to warm cold hands.

They are commonly used in outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing to keep the extremities warm and assist insulated clothing. Other types of warmers are available to provide soothing heat for muscular or joint aches.

Some hand warmers contain cellulose, iron, water, activated carbon, vermiculite and salt and produce heat from the exothermic oxidation of iron when exposed to air.

A second type generate heat through exothermic crystallisation of supercooled molten materials (usually sodium acetate) and are reusable. These can be recharged by boiling the warmers and allowing them to cool. Heating of the pads is triggered by snapping a small metal device buried in the pad which generates shock waves to initiate crystallisation.

A third type uses lighter fluid (lighter fuel) or LPG which is reacted with a platinum catalyst to release heat by oxidation reactions. These can be used on many occasions by simply refuelling.

Depending on the type and the source of heat, hand warmers last between 30 minutes (recrystallisation) though to 12 - 24 hours.

Thanks for the 411 on the handwarmers, Moo!

Nabbie, sorry about DH too. Can he retake the test? But in these times, just having a job is a good thing. :worship: Hey, look at me, I am working all kinds of overtime with NO extra pay, LOL!

What to eat? what to eat??????????? where is the pacing smiley when you need it???

I wish hubby would wake up already! Besides not being able to take a shower, I also have a bunch of folded clothes sitting on the couch that I can't put away. PLUS, I really need to vacuum, can't do that either. But you can bet I won't vacuum later tonight, LOL

I need to vacuum too but hubby worked last night so no vacuuming here either. I don't know how many times I had to tell Nicholas to keep it down today. They are not used to this anymore either....

Usually eat peanut butter and jam when I don't know what else to eat. Hubby tells me I will look like one soon since that is usually my lunch, quick and easy.

Nothing on TV again tonight. But the Biggest Loser and Bachelor come back this week.

Hmm, Nab, peanutbutter and jelly on toast sounds goog! But now I have a chicago rolls (nice and baked) in the oven with some ham and cheese. Should be ready soon.

Desperate Housewives is on at 9!

ETA:

I was attempting to make Banana Nut bread during DHW, and while trying to get a mixing bowl out, a big 8x12 glass dish fell out and crashed to the floor and broke into a million pieces on the tile floor. :scared1: That, along with my loud SCREAM, woke up DH!

So maybe now I can get my shower in by 10? And do vacuuming too, since there are shards of glass on the carpet as well! :upsidedow No banana Nut bread tonight!

busy, busy,,,as bumbling bees!

Howdy!

Woke up this morning to Maddy having pink eye. We don't go anywhere! She probably rubbed her nose and then her eyes when I wasn't looking.

I was cleaning out and organizing yesterday and threw away the pink eye medicine. It has another month to go before it expired. I fished it out thinking you'll regret this. Ha! Karma on my side, who knew?

Maybe it will be a better year.

Got a Stephen King book for Christmas. The Dome. Looks goog. Over 1000 pages.

I actually met a couple while on vacation who live in Ohio. They want some of my pierogies and Tim has to drive through to Erie next week, so I am having him drop some off. They live next to the Heinz Ketchup facility. I think there's gonna be a trade of sorts.........insert evil laugh.

Diet starts today! Exercising starts today! Good habits start back up today!
The whole family. Wish us luck.

Back to our regular schedule here this morning....

The kids don't want to get out of bed this morning can't blame them I didn't either. Plus it is still darn cold there. A winter holiday would be good about now.

Mony-- I got that same book for Christmas and I am 3/4 of the way though. Sorry about pink eye, we have been lucky here and never had it in our house.

Marita-- Hope you get all the glass pieces up I know. Broke one over the Christmas holidays. What a mess. Wasn't DH a repeat last night I didn't check went to bed and read instead.

I loved the Stephen King story! He's such a good bff. :)

Hope everyone is doing well.

Good day everyone.

Hubby went back to work today and I missed him......YUP so did Megara......Hubby was making coffee every morning for the last week and a half and also made a few breakfasts.....

SOOOO today I did laundry, and took a shower, talked on the phone.....made the bed.....got food ready for supper......and I played on the wii....all by myself standing in the middle of the living room yelling YAHHHHH strike......I was bowling....I also tried tennis too.....need to learn how to do stuff.

SO what is this wii game that doesnt cost 100 bucks and I can exercise to......any ideas will be greatly appreciated......OH YAH we got Toy Story Mania and omg that one made me ache all over.....I really had fun though...almost like playing it in Disney only.....I am freezing here and it was so hot there...

another oh yah.

Those handwarmers are very useful to this person when we go hunting....I put two in each glove....one at the base of my neck between shirts...cause you could burn your skin if it is directly on it....I put one under my hat and then if my legs get cold....I put one on each knee under the jeans and over the long johns...and then put a few in my boots.....these boots weigh a ton and takes all I got to life them up and walk up a mt or down a ravine.......NOW DO I really want to do this again next year........YES!!!

Having the World famous Cheddar Cheese soup from Le Cellier tonight. I tried my hand at some pretzel sticks, but I got majorly interrupted and they turned into pretzel croutons.

Golly Moo I had NO idea there were so many kinds - I'll have to read the label - we went to Wal Mart - bought a few for the hands, one for the neck, and some for the toes -

(lighter fluid?? :scared1:)

In 4 days I'm going to be listening to.... OFF KILTER :cool1::cool1:

and we havent eaten out in forever, when we got out of the car at the Home Depot - our Japanese Restaurant was sending smells - 4 days 4days... *sigh

Lil G aww guides arent shysters - just "salesmen" (and if anyone wants to rent out points, I know someone who likes to rent points.. :rolleyes1) Goog Luck - keep us updated!! :thumbsup2

Mony maybe this summer I'll have to make a drive up to Michigan to try some real perogis :rolleyes1

Goog Luck on the Diet - I'm starting Jan 16 :rolleyes1

Nab I was >< close to smackin dd upside the head (teenagers) she got up at 3;40 freakinAM this mornin :confused3 When she got home from school I asked her if she was on drugs... :confused3 she thought we were kidding... her attitude, her sleep habits.... hey... "are you sure you want to go to WDW?" we're such mean parents!

Marita :scared1: Glad you are ok!! I've seen some of those shatter after you bake them!! I made Banana no nut bread (DD doesnt like nuts :confused3)
You are a goog wife - not waking up dh to shower or take care of dog... accidents do happen tho!!

So I'm in taper madness - spending money on "stuff"

Looked at our temps - 19 deg F - and realized Disney Marathon start time is predicted to be 10 degrees WARMER!!! BRRRrrrrr So I have gloves, mittens, hand warmers, scarves, hats, sweats, coat... what I'm wearing on my bottom half? Do I run in shorts, compression shorts, throw on sweats to "throw away" at around 9 or 10 am or do I wear running pants and keep them on??? :confused3

Race - we get on the bus at 2 or 2:30 AM from BCV to Epcot - DH volunteered to be a guide for a blind runner, so we are going to wait for his AKL bus - then traipse into the Epcot area - sit and obsess, eat, use portapotties around 4:40AM I will start the .6 mile walk to the corral, sit on the pool towel :rolleyes1 and wait till about 6am when the crowds start moving forward... figure to cross start line about 6:40AM - and start "wogging" around 7ish.. 5 miles to MK - 9am? then pray for me to get to the end!! and not be swept!!

Saturday Night 5pm I made reservations for 10 - a meet with people on my pre trip report at Cape May Buffet!!

Sunday - dh runs marathon - I will be at mile 2 water stop (at 4AM!!) handing out water (I'm going to need rubber gloves - dont want water on my hands!!) brrr I get a jacket and a ticket to Disney for volunteering!! :goodvibes

BTW I signed up to Give a day and Get a day - all of us are going to make blankets for the Linus Project - its something I do once a month with our church anyway - but this is a different location to drop off our blankets!!

MP how did the cheddar cheese soup come out??? I am always wondering if it comes out like the one at Le Cellier.....I do love that stuff....

I too lost a thirteen by nine glass dish....it was a thick one too and I hit it on the side of the sideboard on the way into the dishwasher....it was a mess..even though I swept it up first and then vacummed it after....hubby still found more pieces...I was afraid that Megara would get some into her little toes.....but hubby did another good vacumm of the floor...Now this is one reason I had to have another dishwasher........because I dropped pieces of glass in that and also a regular drinking glass and also corelle soup dish.....I thought i got it all out of the dishwasher but ...alas.....no such luck.some of it went into the motor and it fried......

I am sitting here in my fluffy housecoat eating pistachios.......remember my friends....pistachios are a healthy snack.....only a half cup of them at a time but still VERY HEALTHY..
