Allie - Hope you don't get hit too badly with the snow!!!

Pumba - Thanks for the wise words

Lynette - Today seems a bit better than yesterday. I had a hard time settling down and sleeping last night. Thank goodness for being able to sleep in today! I actually got my tree undecorated this evening. Just have to figure out where to store it now and finish putting away the non-tree decorations.

I've been debating about taking a care package over to my friend's mom's house tonight, but I don't really want to infringe on their family time, so I'm leaning toward taking it to the visitation instead. I'm thinking they'll likely have the first visitation tomorrow night. Today, I've been reading the family's and friends' FB posts and that is what is leading me to think it's just too soon.

Pumba-- your a wise woman. We are so lucky to have you here. You always seem to say the right things when need.

Moo-- your probably right, even a few days after would be great. You would be amazed after funerals how everyhing for the first few days is so busy with people then they disappear or think you want to be left alone. I guess it depends on the person too.

I am like Lynette , just doing some wash and reading the boards. Tomorrow I will have to start making piles and seeing what the kids need. Since this time it is longer then a week underwear might be a problem. I hate doing wash on vacation if I can help it.

Been reading the Universial boards and it sounds like it has been over crowded daily since the Harry Potter thing opened up. That should be interesting to plan out since we have never been before.

Nab, I had to go and see what wise words I said.......ROFL.....

I went to walmart and got another pkg of undies......that way I can go ANYWHERES for 12 days and not have to worry about skivvies........I love to say that.....hubby was in the Navy and they called undies skivvies........Ava said Auntie Ree Ree.......I dont have skivvies I have big girl panties......she is to cute.....

I did a few loads of clothes and lounged around in housecoat until One.....bad I know.....figured out meals for the weeks......took some deer steak out and will make a steak soup tomorrow......I love that......and haddock tomorrow night.....we had chicken tonight......

I think I lost some weight......like 2 and a half pounds........but could be that it is water losses.......Just I AM HUNGRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYy......not fair to be hungry but that is the way it is......eat right and not snack all the time.....

Pumba, you're wise AND humble! And like NAB said, we ARE lucky to have you around here!

I laughed when I read your post about skivvies...that's what my son calls them. And if he's feeling particularly goofy, (which is often, he's 11!) he calls them underskivvies. My silly goofball.

We had a beautifully low-key day today! After our extensive bum-laying session, for supper we had a big ol' chicken that Big Daddy brined and smoked on the grill...it was DELISH! He did the grilling and I did all the sides: baked stuffed potatoes and cranberry sauce and bread stuffing and salad. Such a great way to wrap up our weekend. :goodvibes

Well, it's been snowing for about an hour now, and you can't see the grass anymore. They are predicting 4-8 inches here, so who knows, but we don't have school tomorrow, so me and the kids are doing the happy dance!

Lynt - My parents and sister live in Atlanta, so I know they are supposed to get hit as hard as we are. The bad thing down here is that we don't have the equipment to clean it up with. It doesn't make financial sense to buy plows for a big snow once every 10 years or so. :rotfl2: We have had several moments of no bread, no milk over the weekend. Hence why I did my weekly grocery shopping at 8:00 yesterday morning! :thumbsup2 DS has a friend who works at our Publix (across the street) and he posted a picture on FB of the empty bread shelves. :rotfl: He posted that at 3:30 this afternoon. The snow didn't start falling until 8:30.

We are hunkered down and ready! Got the cute rain/snow boots and can't wait to wear them tomorrow! :thumbsup2

I'll let y'all know how much we end up with when it's all said and done because I don't know if it's coming up your way or not.

Ok, DD is bugging me to make the cookies! SnowFun2011 has begun!! :upsidedow

Thanks, Pumba!

Lynt, bum-laying is my specialty. Granted I do a lot of work while bum=laying, but the house isnt cleaning itself:upsidedow

i made some semi-homemade shrimp fettucini alfredo tonight. Store bought shrimp (little ones, the salad kind, the big ones were too expensive). store-bought alfredo sauce and added some fresh mushrooms (sliced with my new food processor) and some fresh spinach and some grated parmersan.
The result was ok, but not as good as the food court, rats! At least I have leftovers to take tomorrow..

Allie, glad you still have power. The pics over yonder look really pretty.

I'm tired, I need a snow day, LOL

Well, I got our Christmas tree undecorated and the decorations and tree taken down and put away tonight, no thanks to my hubby. He wanted to store the tree in Mari's room and couldn't understand why I wouldn't want to do that. Grrr. So I dragged it down to the basement myself after covering it with trash bags. Plus he got ornery with me for having the door to our back room open for too long (he got cold) while moving the boxes around.

To say that I'm rather irritated tonight would be an understatement! I'm thinking that there will be NO Christmas decorating done by me next year and that I'll go away to somewhere warm by myself for a couple weeks!!!

Maybe I could throw a HUGE snowball at him from down here! :headache: :rotfl2: Um, could he not get up and close the door himself? :confused3

Go relax Moo, you deserve it!

I think we are going to have WAY more snow than they predicted! We have about 4 inches now, and it is supposed to snow all night and into tomorrow. Hope I can find the backyard for the pups tomorrow. Had to carry Cocoa out there earlier....too deep for a Chihuahua!

I think they are saying we will get that storm on Wednesday......we had a few flurries yesterday and that was it...ZIPPPPPPPPPPPP

I am glad that you picked up the poor chihuahua.....shovel an area for the poor baby....Hubby, when we have a blizzard will go and snowblow around the whole yard so ms Megara can run the loop.......Having their legs so skinny (the rest is a chunky monkey) ..they can break easily if they run on hard snow or ice topping it.....But she is a southern doggie too.......She is not fond of COLD or SNOW.......she will run and put her face in it and run around like a nut and then come back to the door and say LET ME IN>>>

MY sugar was 108 this morning.....soooooo excited.....it hasnt been that in a long time. right diet may be the key..

see you guys later gators...and you all that are experiencing some snow.....stay safe

Allie looks to be snowed in pretty good, she posted pictures over yonder.

I started my first WW week with losing 9 pounds!

My winter classes start this week, 2 on campus and 2 on line.

I had over 90 mins on the treadmill between sat and sun.

Great news on your sugar Pumba!

I think the very cold weather plays on people's moods. My DH pointed out to me a few weeks ago how I can be so negative and my mood swings how they affect everyone, so I have a conscious effort to be as pleasant as possible. I didn't like this news at the time, but I am trying to use it as positively as I can. I am not perfect, but for some reason this is in the back of my head now, like the inner voice thing.

I can't say if the tables were turned that his reaction would be the same, that is usually the core of our disaggreements. I can't criticize him, he is not very receptive of that.

Have a blessed day!

Yup, I have a bunch of other friends who live in the south, and they tell me the same thing...their towns can't justify buying snow removal equipment for these rare snow events, so the towns are basically crippled by weather like this. It must be pretty scary, in some instances! Sounds like y'all are handling it okay so far though.

I think they are saying we will get that storm on Wednesday

Yes, Pumba...the weather wench is predicting 8-14 inches of snow Tuesday night into Wednesday morning around my area. Only slightly less up by you, I think. Blech!

Mony, I notice that I am moodier in the winter too. I make a concerted effort to curb it, but I have to stay conscious of it. For me, it's often a by-product of not eating as well, since wintertime for me brings cravings for comfort food. Once I eat that stuff, I start mentally chastising myself for not making good choices, and then it kinda snowballs, KWIM? Ack! I should must move to a warmer climate and be done with winter!

Oh I am soooooo wicked excited.......the storm will not hit me....can you believe we will probably get a dusting.......I am SOOOOOO Happy.....Sorry about your storm Lynette......I know some people are happy to see it and others could do without......this could be our year of very little snow and I am fine by that....it is cold enough for all the ski resorts to make their own....so that is okey....I wouldnt want them to do without ...this is their money making time ...I dont ski anymore....once I turned around the wrong way and my back was towards the slope and I went down quite a bit backwards.......I am not really coordinated .....hahaha....but people got a good laugh for that one.

Ava is sleeping and I am playing.....I got on My Points and I had a Barnes and Noble card and used it to get the Bride QUartet series by Nora Roberts.....I did read the first few but I dont think I read three and four.....so I will have these for a while and will reread them and then share with others.....My DIL said for me to get a nook....but I like certain books to keep......Like my Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston books......two great co-writers.....

Cold but now snow here either. I like it that way. I can layer clothes, plus I can safely get out on the roads.

Allie-- Got your Christmas card today! That's it is always a nice surprise to have late cards because you don't expect them. :goodvibes Saw the picture of your snow. I think you have more then we do right now. Well at least my neighbourhood other places in Ontario not so lucky.

Mony-- I here you on the mood thing. I am worse when dieting. :sad2: You are starting out the new year in the right direction. :thumbsup2

Pumba-- yay on the sugar count. We have diabetes in our family, grandma , dad and all my uncles got it there sixties. Plus I have PCO syndrome so I have a big chance of being one too. I have to be tested regularly for it.

Moo-- I hear you on hating taking stuff down by yourself....it is a lot of work.

Marita-- Glad you got your food processor working. I had one , not sure where it went too.

I read all of the Bridal Quartet books; my neighbor and I love her books in a series like that. We pass them back and forth. I think each one took just a few days for me to read.

Nice drive by twinks. So good to read an update. I told you that picture looked incredibly busy. Hope you get more chances to check in.

There was another series I think it was like the elements, which I loved too.

Nice to see your update, Twink!!!

I have also read the NR bridal quartet. Enjoyable read. I like most of her series, especially her Born In Trilogy and the Gallaghers of Ardmore Trilogy.

And, yup, I am apparently also moodier in the winter :rolleyes1 Despite taking high doses of Vitamin D.

Allie - You are getting more snow than we are here in Michigan. Let's keep it that way!!! :rotfl:

Well, I went to the visitation tonight and it was nice to see my friend and her family. They seemed to be holding up remarkably well. I plan to take off work and go to the funeral service on Wednesday.

Yay, a Twinkie sighting, how exciting!

Glad the Twinkie clan is doing well. How cool that you got your own laptop, I hope you will stop by more often

Pumba, hurray for good counts. Keep it up!

Speaking of eating right (or not), I said I maid fettucini alfredo last night, and put the rest away to take to lunch today, but I forgot. Well, DD ate half of it in the meantime, LOL. Guess that save me from bad eating for a day. Plus, a few of us went out to lunch today at Sweet Tomatoes (buffet place with salads, soup, potatoes and bread). I loaded up on salad, which is very unlike be (then again, I loaded it up with eggs and cheese and ranch dressing, so i guess that was not so good after all). Anyway, I had only been there once before and loved the soup. So I got some broccoli soup, and I think that was about the worst soup ever! No taste at all! What was my point of saying all this? Oh yeah, I started out thinking I would say I ate healthy salad today, but I guess I didn't after all.

Marita - Eggs and cheese are both protein, so in my opinion that was good, as long as you didn't drown your salad in the Ranch dressing. Your body needs quite a bit of protein every day. If you eat more protein and make sure your carbs are relatively low, you should be able to keep your weight more stable or lose.

My problem lately (i.e., over the holidays) is that I've been eating way too many carbs. When you lower the carbs and up your protein, you don't get as hungry and your blood sugar stays at more of an even keel. Right, Pumba?!

BTW, congrats Pumba on your improved blood sugar level!

We have our belated holiday work potluck tomorrow and I made an oatmeal harvest cake tonight (using my Grandma's recipe which Mari made for our Christmas Eve dessert) with many of the remaining supplies that we bought for holiday baking so I can get them out of my house :woohoo:

morning everyone...
No Ava this morning but my internal alarm went off right before the real one would of gone off......go figure....then the house was shaking.....Like an earth quake type of moving.......someone has a back hoe and they are digging in the frozen ground...I dont know what they are digging for but I am on alert for any gas leaks in the neighborhood...

Did you all know that also decreasing our carbs at first makes us very unhappy......because carbs are comfort foods......take away comfort foods and makes sort of a depression at first...found that out at the diabetic clinic too....I cried when I first started this diet five years ago......couldnt figure out what was going on....but in a few weeks my body got used to it....oh well...

We will see if that storm is going to hit us or not...first they say NO and I got wicked excited as you read before.....then they said its iffy......go figure....so will find out tonight......The weather people are trying to predict, as a doctor is still practicing ..not quite do they have it right.......ROFL..

see you guys later...
