Moose & Goose- The 5th anniversary is the Dis Trip Anniversary- Baby Update #2 5/1

besides bandaids and the medicines you "might" need (aspirin, tums, ibuprofen, immodium, antibacterial ointment, etcetc) :
I always bring ziplock bags and clothespins. the bags for leftovers to keep in the fridge, clothespins to use as chip bag clips.

umbrellas and ponchos, too. oh! sunny-D!!!! and little bottles!

oh, you might need a soft sided cooler for the room. I assmue you heard that they recalled the fridges. you can request one, of you have a medical need. I thought I heard it was the ones at the moderates as well as the values, but not sure. call and ask, if you are counting on one.
On the Pop Century thread, there are reports of people getting a $15 a day compensation for not having a fridge, but they had to mention it., it won't be offerred.

leave a day early if you can! we got to where it became a habit.. we would say it was so we could tkae our time going down, but Nebo always pushed to get to flroida! you can stay the extra night at a cheapo motel in Kissimmee, lie by the pool, walk to Ponderosa for dinner. go to old town for a drink and walk around. check in at POR bright and earlY!!!!
we think it gives us a better room choice. (we don't mind waiting for a room to be ready. I'd rather have a better room location the whole trip and wait a couple hours for it).

OR. you can use a room ony code to stay that 1st night at pop or an allstar.

while at POR, make sure to see YeeHa Bob ar the River roost. and take the boat to Downtown Disney. you can buy beer, wine, snacks, pop, etc at the Hess gasstation, a short walk across the street from DTD. I know you can bring it on the disney bus. don't know about the boat.

but the bus stop is closer to th ehess than the boat dock anyway. so you could take the boat there. then go to hess just before you leave DTD andtake the bus back.

Oh Thumper man! You are TOO funny. I completely expect you, Ponzi and Nebo to highjack my report for the week we are gone... it'll be this weird story about getting kidnapped by hill folk on the way down there... never to be seen again (it was the best day ever). *7,000 bonus points if you can tell me what TV show that's from.

I really can't wait to get down there and see what things we get to mark off of our bucket lists.

Seriously?! You've stayed the night in Castle?! That's craziness. AND... I'm not sure that I believe you!

But either way, welcome to the TR! Can't wait to see what ruckus you guys create.

Firefly!! "Dear Diary, Today my sister and I were kidnapped by hill folk, never to be seen again. Best Day Ever" Gotta love Jayne.

As to road trips, DH and I always drive and since he's a bit of a control freak, he always takes the wheel. My car-time activities include, reading (a little otherwise I'll get car sick) Navigating (we have a GPS somewhere, but we always end up referring to the map) and knitting. Don't know how crafty you are, but knitting (or crocheting) is awesome in the car especially repeating patterns.

I'm VERY glad to have you... someone has to help keep the guys in order... as if that would happen

Guys? There are probably 4 guys here. One (Bankr) is always so far behind he thinks he's first. One is on vacation. One is going blind and healing from a broken wrist, he can't really type at the moment. That leaves me to fend for myself against who knows how many ladies. I'm outnumbered at least 10/15 to 1. Possibly more.

I don't think you need any help.

I'm ready for you PTR and TR!! :cool1:

DBF and I are driving to Disney....17 hours. I'm not too sure what to expect? lol. I know we'll have snacks and drinks, and lots of music. I'll for sure have dramamine :)

I'd say bring whatever snacks, peanut m&ms is a must for us! And honey bbq fritos! lol (I generally eat pretty healthy, okay?) And we'll probably be making pre made sanwiches. We need to save as much money as possible!

That is the funniest thing I've heard all day! You have seen our TR haven't you? I couldn't keep them in order there, and after a while I gave up and just ended up joining them on Nebo and Ponzi's TR. :rotfl:

And this is why we all need Momma Smidgy right before a big trip. I wouldn't have even thought about bandaids and that stuff. We usually take a first aid bag along with us on any trip, but that's something T-Man usually packs, I think of it when we are already on the plane and can't go back. :rolleyes2

The fun part of road trips, is that you can take your time and enjoy the ride. If you get tired, stop and rest. I think next time I'm riding with Momma Smidgy! :goodvibes

Okay- so totally didn't expect ANYONE on here to get that! 7k points as promised to Sewmess! Honored to meet a Browncoat on the Dis! That's an experience I didn't expect.

We don't have a GPS- but will probably be figuring out how to use the one on my new phone during the trip.

We plan to take a cooler... I hadn't read that they had taken out the fridges... and that is something we would have used. Definate bummer! I'll totally call and ask.
Unfortunately we can't leave any sooner than we are. We're both taking a half day on Friday 8/30, so we can be on the road to start our 18 hour trip around 2:30 in the afternoon-- quote me on that to see when we ACTUALLY get started. (My family runs about 30 minutes behind-- and my husband hates that I get that from my dad... so... we'll probably end up leaving around 4:30 or so instead.

I'm ready for you PTR and TR!! :cool1:

I don't need the dramamine... just something to entertain myself... :happytv: But totally a ton of food-- which I'll walk off at Disney. Yeah, my plan is to make some sandwhiches to save money too.:teacher:

So glad you are all following along! Can't wait to get the trip started! To anyone I didn't respond to, but is joining in, :welcome: Glad you're here with us!

Okay... you are here... Ponzi should be back before I leave... 3 weeks from today. And Nebo- well, who knows about him... there are at least 2 other guys here on the Dis that may or may not be joining in. :grouphug:

Well I'm here for now. I'm trying to finish up our TR so that's keeping me busy. Work has been busy for me lately. Hopefully it don't keep me away too much.

next time I'm riding with Momma Smidgy[/B]! :goodvibes

aw! that's sweet!!!! when we used to keep a boat at a marina for the summer, th eother boaters said "If there's a nuclear war, we're going with YOU! you have everything!":rotfl:

We plan to take a cooler... I hadn't read that they had taken out the fridges... and that is something we would have used. Definate bummer! I'll totally call and ask.
Unfortunately we can't leave any sooner than we are. !

oh yeah .you're drivig so you wont' need a soft sided one.
but call ahead and request a fridge anyway. you might get lucky.. (and maybe the problem will be fixed by then).

I f you dont' get one, definitely ask for the $15 a day compensation! (that is the rpcie of renting a fridge)

We've got three weeks- from today and we'll be in Disney. I keep trying to figure out when I'm going to have time to go shopping for all the stuff we need to take with us... anyway...

I know that you're all going to cringe when you read this... :scared: but... we're not doing ANY reservations before we go... except 1 and I'm not telling you about it because it will ruin the surprise.
Since the husband wants tot try to drink his way around EPCOT in one day-- we're going to try to start in Canada and try to have lunch at Le Cellier-- WITHOUT A RESERVATION. We're hoping if we get there early enough to start our day, we can get in and not worry about it being too crowded.
Then, I figure if we take our time (and not drink so fast we get sick)... dinner will be at our favorite place, Nine Dragons. We LOVE that place! When we went, we made a reservation, but it didn't seem that we needed it because they took us right away, even though we were 15 minutes early.

I have no idea what the husband wants to drink... but the last time we went, I had read on here that I HAD to try a Grand Marnier slush, which I did and it was amazing! So, I'm totally having that in France again... and I told the husband I wanted to try the new Carmel shop. So, that'll be a great snack stop. I have a feeling this day is going to be nothing but eating and drinking in EPCOT... oh, our lives will be SO terrible that day! I just hope we don't over do it on the drinking. :upsidedow
We'll see how that goes.

I found a little "to go" pack of ibuprofin on clearance at Meijer down the street the other day... I'm thinking about going back and getting another.. or the one with sleep meds. Either way, I'm going to be stocked up on meds and band aids. So, if we do get sick... hopefully the hangovers won't be too bad...:faint:

That's the plan for our EPCOT day... to drink (and I'll make sure we've got food on our stomach's so it's not just alcohol the whole time), eat and be merry.
Can't wait! Work isn't going to like me for the next few weeks... I'm already mentally :beach: on vacation.

So, we are supposed to be getting there at some point on Saturday (August 31) and we don't have park tickets for that day... We only have tickets for Sunday thru Wednesday... I'm considering getting tickets for Saturday, but not sure.
We changed our tickets yesterday to park hoppers... we originally didn't have park hoppers... but changed out minds.
So, we were considering using Saturday as a "relax" day... hanging by the pool and then going to downtown Disney for a while and then doing something special for dinner...
Here's where you come in. We are considering: Ohana, Mickey's BBQ, Hoopty Doo Review, Yachtman's steakhouse and Fulton's Crabhouse.
We've never done any of them before except Ohana... and because it's our first night and we are celebrating our anniversary I thought it might be nice to start off with something special. We love seafood- and the best we get a home is probably Joe's Crabshack, which we don't go to often because it's expensive.
Suggestions? Our options are: go a head and get park tickets for Saturday too and do whatever for dinner... or stay with no tickets on Saturday and spend the day relaxing and doing a special dinner.. if we do that, which dinner should we do?
So many options- and we're running out of time. We don't have any days off together anymore because of our work schedules... so we won't get to see each other until Monday night... when we may or may not remember to discuss our options.
Thanks for your suggestions guys!

aaargh!! my pet peeve. it is a "revue" not a "review". (I know, I'm annoying. a revue is a show with musical numbers. I guess you could do a "review" of a "revue"! (nebo will yell at me for being picky unney about this.. oh, and it's Hoop De Doo .

ok are you still speaking to me???:rotfl:

anyway , we ahve done it 3 times and LOVE It! it's corny! stupid, silly. but fun.. for the price, the tip is included, as is unlimited beer and wine. it's all you can eat and we love the fried chicken and ribs and beans, corn bread, etc.

(better get your fried chicken while you can.. the conspiracy nut in me is detecting a dslow, seemingly unsuspecting move towards "healthier" roast chicken at Disney.. they took away the fried chicken at pop century!!! hope they dont' take it away at the hoop, or fort wilderness, or Prime time!!

however, on the first night, make sure you allow for at leats an hour and a half to get there. you have to take a bus to MK, then a boat to Ft. wilderness.

(ps, I am thinking of starting up a pool if you kids get into Le Celleir without a reservation);)

Smidgy, I'm totally still talking to you... for the time being. We were thinking if we go to LeCellier we'd have a better chance at a walk up for lunch on a weekday. Also, I told the husband if we got to eat there, it's mandatory we get the MOOSE! :rotfl2::rotfl:
If not, we'll probably end up with fish & chips... which is okay too, because we've had that before and we thought it was good.

Free tickets for 'not for profits'!? Free tickets for 'not for profits'!? how do I do that??

My husband and I go for our anniversary every other year and love it!! Love a good road trip too. We do the audio books from the library (we can even down load them digitally from the library- you probably can too). I recommend no parks for arrival day when you road trip. We use that as a day to recover from the drive - go to the Disney outlets for some less expensive souvenirs, grocery shop for healthier park snacks and breakfast for the room, maybe Downtown Disney...maybe a nice dinner... I think it's a great choice! If you can't get the Disney restaurant you want for that night, our favorite local is Cafe TuTu Tango; it's all appetizers and they have great pitchers of Sangria.

Hope you have a wondeful trip.

I found you! :thumbsup2 See what happens when I venture away from my user CP. I find other trip reports. Shocking! I know!

So I have not tried Yachtsman, but I know that people love it. I am more of a seafood eater, so that's probably why I've never been there.

I've not eaten at Fulton's either. That seems to get "iffy" reviews.

Since you love seafood have you considered Flying Fish? I have eaten there twice and its been very, very good both times. It's small, intimate, and if you go there with your anniversary buttons you are sure to get some special treatment. We were served champagne on the house.

You could enjoy a nice dinner and then stroll around the boardwalk.

Ohana is a great choice, but can you get an ADR? What about Kona?

Good luck with your decision.
