Moose & Goose- The 5th anniversary is the Dis Trip Anniversary- Baby Update #2 5/1

I found you! :thumbsup2 See what happens when I venture away from my user CP. I find other trip reports. Shocking! I know!

So I have not tried Yachtsman, but I know that people love it. I am more of a seafood eater, so that's probably why I've never been there.

I've not eaten at Fulton's either. That seems to get "iffy" reviews.

Since you love seafood have you considered Flying Fish? I have eaten there twice and its been very, very good both times. It's small, intimate, and if you go there with your anniversary buttons you are sure to get some special treatment. We were served champagne on the house.

You could enjoy a nice dinner and then stroll around the boardwalk.

Ohana is a great choice, but can you get an ADR? What about Kona?

Good luck with your decision.

So glad you made it MEK! Welcome to the TR!

The last time we went and actually were able to drink around the world, we started off in Canada, mainly because of our ressies at Le Cellier, but also because we found that if we started in Mexico, we didn't get too far. :rotfl2:

We got to Le Cellier right when World Showcase opened, and there were only a few people around. We got there pretty early compared to our ressies and we were seated right away. I am betting you should be able to get a walk in if you go right when they open up.

When we did our circuit around the World, I think I posted to Facebook, each drink we got in each country. I'll have to go back and check and see if I can put together a list for you. Not that you should go by the list by any means, but it may help in seeing what is good. I tried to stick with the same sort of alcohol I started out with in Canada, which was a mixed drink. The old saying "Liquor before beer you're in the clear, beer before liquor you've never been sicker" can stick to you when you're in the most magical place on earth and you don't want to be worshipping the porcelain gods later. :upsidedow

As for the anniversary dinner plans. My personal recommendation, after such a long drive, would be to relax that day. Take the chance to enjoy the day off, and treat yourselves to a nice anniversary dinner. We have personally enjoyed Shula's the last couple of times we went as our "pricey" meal of choice, but I have heard that Yachtsman's is in the same wheelhouse, and pretty darn good. If you want seafood, I would go with Fulton's, but I believe that at Shula's, you can get a humongous lobster tail for $100. But that baby can feed a table of 6 with ease.

TMW, I"m not a big fan of lobster honestly. If I'm going to have seafood, 97 times out of 100 I'd rather have crab... it's sweeter and you can't really mess it up... lobster is super easy to screw up... cook it 2 minutes too long, it's chewy, cook it 2 minutes too short it's gooey in the middle. Crab is way easier... and like I said, sweeter. I LOVE it!
Thanks for the suggestion! I think the "relax" day is a good idea... but the Disney nut in me says... BUT WE COULD HAVE HALF OF ANOTHER DAY FOR MORE RIDES!

With us, we take anything, whether it be crab, lobster or shrimp, where we can get it. We live in NM where the closest thing we get to *fresh* seafood is catfish, when we go fishing for it ourselves :rotfl: so we enjoy it where we can. But i completely understand what you mean. Crab is a lot sweeter, I just don't like to fight to get my food. Haha.

regarding the relax day vs the disney nut...Go with your gut. I don't know if you would have to pay extra for adding a day since you have the special tickets that you got, but if you do, remember that the money you save by relaxing could get you that awesome anniversary meal wherever you decide to go. Plus if you are anything like us, relax days come very seldom in a disney trip. :thumbsup2

Catching up - better late than never! You have great choices for your first night - I LOVE Hoop De Doo, have not yet done Fulton's but that would be the most romantic for your anniversary - and does fill the seafood quest. Plus you could hang in DTD afterwards.............tough decision!!

So, yesterday my husband texted me around 11 a.m. yesterday. He said "you know... we could probably add another day AT THE END OF OUR TRIP!"
Before he even texted me again to ask what I thought, I was writing to our travel agent to see if that was do-able.
So, we are now staying Sat-Thurs nights and we have tickets to the park for Sun-Thursday, all parkhoppers.
I decided to see if we could split the stay... since we are are staying at POR we didn't think we could extend our stay in the same room for another night... so, we are going to move to WL for Wednesday & Thursday- woods view. :dance3:
SUPER excited! WL is my husband's favorite resort (and only one we've ever stayed at)... so I thought it would be a nice way to end our trip... to go back to his favorite resort.
That's it for changes so far.

That's awesome that you are going to spend your last two nights at the WL. It really is such a pretty resort. I had a nice time there last October.

You should really think about an ADR at Artist Point. It's a great restaurant and they really go all out in the way of costumer service. Plus you won't have to go too far to get there.

So, when we go to Disney, we always try to something in the weeks leading up to it to get us ready for all the walking we'll be doing in Disney. So, my brother and I went to a place in southern Indiana called "Holiday World".

Holiday World is in Santa Claus, Indiana... Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus, Indiana. And they take "Santa Claus" very seriously... there are pictures, statues and people dressed as Santa everywhere in the city.
We had dinner at Subway before we left.... who do you think we saw?

I had gotten free tickets from my work, so my brother and I went before he started at his new college. (he already graduated with his associates, but decided to go back for his bachelors and transferred to another school.)

As an idea of how long it takes- from my house on the south side of Indianapolis, to Louisville it takes right at 2 hours. To get to Santa Claus, it's 3 1/2 hours. Holiday World is actually 2 parks in one... a water park, which has now gotten bigger than the actual amusement park. There are several water slides and a "water coaster".
However, we stayed in the amusement park. We got there around 1 p.m. There was no wait for anything basically. The longest wait we had was 15 minutes for the last wooden roller coaster we went on... The Legend.
It's the longest and tallest wooden roller coaster there.

Taken from their website: "The Voyage is an air-time machine, with riders experiencing a feeling of weightlessness for a total of 24.3 seconds," says Holiday World's president, Matt Eckert. "We take the traditional out-and-back layout to the extreme, with one of the steepest drops on any wooden coaster in the world. The Voyage is 1.2 miles long, placing it among the planet's top three longest and fastest wooden coasters." The Voyage also has three sections of extreme, 90-degree banking." "Most dramatic drops on The Voyage measure 154 feet (66-degree angle of descent), 107 feet (51-degree angle), and 100 feet (50.5-degree angle)."

Let me tell you- on a regular roller coaster this would probably be awesome. But this is wooden, so you get shaken up like dice in a cup. My right shoulder and neck still hurt from this ride and we went on it a week and a half ago!

We rode all three of the roller coasters twice and did ever "big" ride in the park... so no little kid rides. With the exception of the carousel.

Like Disney they have "mascots" and their biggest mascot... behind Santa obviously, is Holidog. He was out roaming the park on our way out so we got our picture taken with him... and two other mascots... Hallokitty (I think) and some Eagle.. no idea who he was. This is my brother Nick & I (Goose) with Holidog.

(For those of you paying attention, yes I am wearing the exact same outfit in this picture as I am in the intro! Only difference is the purse... and my hair has grown about 6 inches since our 2010 trip.)

Something about Holiday World... because it's built in southern Indiana... it's built on the side of a hill. From about Bloomington South, Indiana is all hills. My home town, on the far west side of the state, Terre Haute, is French for high ground... because that's basically where all the hills start. I'd say half of Indiana is completely flat (which makes it good for farming) but the further south you go, the more hills you get. So Holiday World is QUITE a work out for your knees! Nothing like the flat parks at Disney. I wore a pedometer through the park and when we left it said I'd done just about 3 miles. And that's the entire park-- and backtracking to get back to the roller coasters we had already done.

Sorry I don't have more pictures... I can't get my cell phone to connect to the internet to get the pictures off of it. Thanks for reading along! See ya real soon! :wave2:

So first off... somebody has to help out Bunny Boy. Might as well be me.

Jujubes (or as Ruby calls 'em: Jooby Joobs) or wine gums. Pretzels for salt. Chips'll do too.

Don't ask me for restaurant recommendations, haven't been to enough to compare... although I have heard good things about Hoop De Doo Review.

We had dinner at Subway before we left.... who do you think we saw?

Jay Leno? The artist known as Prince, but formerly known as the artist formerly known as Prince? Why won't you just tell us?

That's just mean.

As an idea of how long it takes- from my house on the south side of Indianapolis, to Louisville it takes right at 2 hours.

I knew that! A co-worker and friend goes to Indy almost every year and has a friend who lives in Louisville.

"The Voyage is an air-time machine, with riders experiencing a feeling of weightlessness for a total of 24.3 seconds," says Holiday World's president, Matt Eckert. "We take the traditional out-and-back layout to the extreme, with one of the steepest drops on any wooden coaster in the world. Sounds like fun. We should take Mrs. T on it. I hear she enjoys a good coaster now and then.

Or something like that.

Hallokitty (I think) and some Eagle.. no idea who he was.

That cracks me up. Obviously a well thought out and effective marketing strategy.

(For those of you paying attention, yes I am wearing the exact same outfit in this picture as I am in the intro! Only difference is the purse... and my hair has grown about 6 inches since our 2010 trip.)

Of course the purse. This ain't Disney. The purse is obviously heavier in this latest pic.

Funny thing, I had x-rays taken yesterday and I tossed my wallet on a chair while the pics were being taken. Then almost forgot it. The x-ray tech remembered and said, "Don't forget this." I made some comment about not really needing it or something. She replied, "Oh, that's right. You just came back from Europe so there isn't any money in it anymore."

Thanks for reading along! See ya real soon! :wave2:

Y'all come back now, y'hear!

Sorry, before your time.

Rebecca, somehow I totally missed that you started a PTR, found it accidentally tonight scrolling through the list.

But I'm here, and in mighty fine company too :)

i cannot believe I ahve been to Indiana Beach (lake Schaefer) 4 or 5 times, and to cedar point (ok, ohio), 3 times, but living not far outside of chicago, never been to santa claus , Indiana!~

Smidgy, I've been to Cedar Point and Indiana Beach once each. I've been to Holiday World at least half a dozen times.

Like I said, it's a 3 hour trip from Indy-- so from Chicago, I'm going to say roughly 7 hours... I don't know that it's worth 7 hours.

Backstage- I'm SO glad you made it! Glad you decided to come along for the trip.
:grouphug:
T minus 11 days (and only 6 1/2 days of work til we leave)!:cheer2:

Okay, okay a little late to the party, but I'm here Rebecca! ;)

I like the nicknames.....moose and goose, they flow well.

You know, we both have milestone anniversaries this year. Ten years for us in November.

I'm very excited for you! :goodvibes

Hey Everybody!
I was wondering if you could all possibly help me with something. I was reading that the Dapper Dans are going to be signing "boy band" music... and that got me to thinking... do they do "original boy band" songs? I was trying to find all or most of the songs they sing and can't find a list for them.
I would pay good money to hear them sing "God only know" by the Beach Boys. I'd love to ask them to sing that for my husband and I while we're there... it's one of my husband's favorite songs... and it would MAKE HIS DAY. If they would sing it.
There's a video game my husband was playing a few months ago and his character walked passed a quartet that was A Capella signing... and they were singing "God only knows". He stopped and let it cycle through twice before he continued playing.
Anyone know where I could find a list of songs they know... or know if they know or would even sing "God only knows"... I know Disney is family friendly... so I don't know if they'd sing anything that has the word "God" in it.

When they mention "Boy Bands" you gotta think singing groups like Backstreet Boys, One Direction, NSNYC and those type of groups. Although Beach Boys are a band made up of boys, I don't think they're part of this classification or genre. From the searches I've done (and results I've come up with) this is the type of music the Dapper Dans will be performing; because they want it that way and this I promise you.

If you stop and compare: Beach Boys are a BAND. By that I mean the members of the band provide the music by playing instruments. Throw a lead singer or 2 into the group and you have a band. Now a group like Backstreet Boys mostly just sing and dance, and perform to pre-recorded music; or they may also have a band providing the music for them. They are not necessarily providing the music themselves. One or 2 may play an instrument on occasion, but not through the whole show. I've often wondered why they call them a band for this particular reason, but that's a whole other thread.

If the Dapper Dans were to take audience requests (I don't know if they do or not), you could ask them if they know the song. The worst that can happen is they don't know it.

Bye, Bye, Bye
