moochie neighbor

We've been the neighbors who borrow - usually when I'm in the middle of a recipe, and realize that I don't have what I need. When I'm done making whatever, I'll bring over some of it as thanks.

My neighbor (both actually, but this one in particular) is the BEST! Earlier this year, we had been having trouble with our hot water and our heat (we didn't truly realize what the issue was - which was our gas regulator on the outside of the building), and I got a call from daycare that DD had gotten sick. We were actually fine, if a bit cold, when DD threw up during her nap, and had nastiness EVERYWHERE!

I called my neighbor in desparation, and she let me bathe DD in her bathtub, and even offered to let me stay in their house until we got our heat fixed (luckily the repairman came right about then, too). She didn't even hesitate, even though DD most likely had that stomach bug going around... I  her!

"I need a sprinkler system I think."

Actually, there are motion-activated sprinkers you can get. We got some to keep the neighbors cats that they let roam the neighborhood out of our yard a while back (when the Siberians aren't out, as apparently they think cat is the other other white meat).

As I read through this ENTIRE thread just now I have been in SHOCK! We have awesome neighbors that have become great friends. But MAANNN the nerve of some people.

Then I remembered growing up.....we had a nice pool at our house when we were kids/teens and our next door neighbors would stand at our fence (in swim suits) and stare at us everyday while we were in the pool. Now their kids were way younger than us and they werent nice neighbors...it was so irritating that my parents would feel obligated to invite them over (especially when we had our FRIENDS over) it was sooo rude! Then every winter, same Dad neighbor would yell at us if we accidentally knocked snow back onto his driveway that he had snowblowed...ugh really!

Thanks for the laugh everyone, I too feel the need to bake my neighbors pies!

WOW! I think you were way more patient that I would have been. Honestly after that I would have order a Suze Orman or DR book and a note that would be something like " Save your money and buy your own stuff your kids are YOUR responsibility not mine if you can't afford them don't have them. Whatever I choose to do with my money is MY problem" And then I would put a note in my door that said "whatever you need I am out of." I hope they got the hint and leave you alone.

Our current neighbors are pretty chill (except for a couple of the 7-8 year old boys who like to try to "pick on" DS or steal DS's things). When we moved in in August, most came over to introduce themselves, one brought over a nice candle, and our next door guy gave DH a plate of shrimp boil!

Before this, we were in an apartment. This little old lady moved in across the hall, and we saw her struggling to bring in furniture and boxes, so...... naturally we went to help. DD, DH and I toted in a carful of stuff for her, told her to let us know if she needed more help, and went on our way.

And a few hours later, saw her toting in heavy boxes again, so again we went to help. This went on for a few days. We even fed her dinner during this time, since all her stuff was packed (she ate breakfast and lunch at some senior center or church or something), and let her nap on our couch, and let her use our air mattress until she could her bed in and set up.

Now, we didn't mind helping her at all, so when she asked if DH could drive a rental truck with some furniture, we said no problem. This woman had plenty of money, so she said--she was single with no relatives and parents had recently passed away--she drove a Mercedes, and was selling her parents home--and she would tell people that she was just putting that money in an account to leave to her church when she died.

The problem came when she picked up 2 guys OFF THE STREET to move the furniture with DH, then left the 3 of them ALONE in a truck full of antiques and DH with no cell phone. I was so worried--they were gone for 5 hours, and I had no idea where DH was. (I didn't know about the 2 guys, until she came home 2 hours into this mess, and I asked where DH was.)

I put my foot down and said no more. She moved onto the neighbors behind us, and told them how awful I was. The same kind of things started happening to them (interrupting meals, etc) and they pushed her off onto the people across from them!
