Monty Python fans?

I think DD16 qualifies as a true Monty Python fan:

She has seen Spamalot twice on Broadway.

She has a large "NI NI NI" pin on her purse.

She has the complete boxed set, (16 DVDs), containing every episode of the Flying Circus. She has the Spamalot soundtrack, (along with various obscure interviews with MP members, on her IPod), 10 or so books on MP, an additional 10 or so DVD's that relate in some way to MP, (MP movies and movies that one or more MP members were in), and various MP stuff throughout her room, (calendars, posters, etc.)

She also has a couple of DVD's of two television shows that lead to the creation of Monty Python- Do Not Adjust Your Set and At Last The 1948 Show. She has another DVD called, How To Irritate People. It features John Cleese and is a riot.

Her favorite member of Monty Python has always been Graham Chapman. She has his books, Calcium Made Interesting, and A Liar's Autobiography. She also has a DVD featuring Graham Chapman called, Looks Like A Brown Trouser Job. It's quite informative and very funny.

She probably has more stuff, but this is what came to mind. Yeah, she's definitely a fan!

I kid you not, I found a Mr. Creosote doll for sale on the internet, and, well, it sorta does what Mr. Creosote was so famous for. And no, I did not buy one.

Although I do have a few favorite sketches from the TV shows, there were few if any Python sketches I don't love. Among my favorites were the dead parrot sketch, the fish-slapping dance, the interpreter dictionary that replaced English phrases with dirty words, the lumberjack song, crunchy frog, the Batley Townswomans Guild presenting the battle of Pearl Harbor, the elections where the Silly Party won, and the Upper Class Twit of the Year contest.

And, not to be forgotten is Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam!

I love Monty Python. My dad started me on them when I was about 11. I just recently saw Spamalot and just about died of laughter from the whole Prince Herbert scene. It was dead on and just funny!

I remember watching a HBO special with them years ago. They had Graham Chapman's ashes in an urn and at some point knocked them over. I can't remember exactly what happened (I think they were kicking them under the rug) but I was seriously crying with laughter. I have been trying to find that special ever since and I can't.

I just asked my daughter about this, and she said the interview you are talking about is included in the 16 DVD boxed set of the Flying Circus. She said DVD's 1 thru 14 are of the Flying Circus television show, and DVD's 15 and 16 contain other material. The interview was from Live At Aspen, and it's on either 15 or 16. She also said you may be able to purchase those two DVDs separately.

I've watched it with her and it IS hilarious!

DH is a huge fan! I do appreciate the humor, and like to watch it from time to time. One of our first dates was Chinese Food and Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl (now I know that that is probably DH's dream night, no wonder he fell in love with me ).

I just bought him Monty Python pajama pants for Christmas. They have the Black Knight, "It's just a flesh wound", and the Monty Python logo all over them. This was especially funny between the 2 of us because I have been bugging him for 7 years to try a pair of pajama pants. He always lounged in his jeans - and it just never seemed as comfortable. When I found the Monty Python ones, I had to get them!

Love Monty Python! Luckily, so does my DH. DD thinks we're a bit weird but she's been known to laugh along at times. You know, when she thinks we're not paying attention to her.

I like to tease DH--He's British and whenever he's mimicking me, he sounds like the Pythons when their characters are women. I keep telling him that I hope he doesn't REALLY think I sound like that!

I really love Fawlty Towers, too. John Cleese is a genius.

Fawlty is awesome. I was not a Python fan until I met my DH, I had :gasp: never seen any of it..now I really want to see Spamalot and I think it is one show I could talk him into taking me to if we ever get to NYC again.

I started my fascination, I guess, with MP in high school. Another one of those weird, brainy kids who sat around quoting the movies. DH and I now ocassionally quote stuff and the kids would look at us strange. Well, in the local holiday parade here in Asheville, NC, a troupe did characters from the Holy Grail and one guy had a removable arm. The family next to us and DH and myself were all crying from laughter. At that point, DD9 BEGGED to finally see the Holy Grail. She is now hooked and is constantly quoting the movie. Looks like another generation is into MP.

Way back in 1974, after I had graduated from college but before some of my friends had, they were searching through a cut-out bin, and ran across an album called "Another Monty Python Record." The shrink wrap had a label saying that it was from a movie called And Now for Something Completely Different, which they had never heard of. (It had opened in the US the year before, but had tanked because nobody knew what it was.) The actual album cover was for Beethoven's 6th symphony (or the 8th, one of the even numbered ones that nobody knows), and the title was supposedly written in crayon, and everything Beethoven had been crossed off. The liner notes described the symphony, but somehow morphed into a tennis game. Since the album was only a dollar, they bought it. They listened. The record first announced that it had nothing to do with "the humorous television program Monty Python's Flying Circus" but was really, "The Pleasures of the Dance, a collection of Norwegian Folk Tunes by Oscar Tritt." It then denied it. You heard something of Oscar Tritt's work, and then whoever did that was sacked (yes, an early Holy Grail joke) and it segued into the Spanish Inquisition sketch. My friends immediately played the album for everybody they could find.

Eventually, I made it up to school and I listened to it. When I got home after the long weekend, I discovered that PBS was starting to play the show.

The rest, as they say, is history. You can't get more interesting then that. Or can you?

Twit of the Year was one of the funiest skits ever. The Winner runs himself over with his car. Taking the bra of the maneqein, one get it on himself. The Dead Parrot. I am trying to remember some of the other skits but it has been a long time. I did see Now for something completly different in the movies. Life of Brian was good. My other favorite from back then was Benny Hill. Not the same, but had some good one also.

Just bought DH the deluxe version of the "Holy Grail" movies. Even my 10 yr old twins think they are hysterical!

Not Monty Python, but anyone love "Young Frankenstien"?? It is OnDemand this month on Comcast. Another classic!

Didn't one of the guys start to vacuum the ashes? I was very lucky to have seen Monty Python live at City Center (in NYC). I think it was 1976 or 1977.
At the end of the show the curtain closed to a standing ovation. Everyone was waiting for the curtain to open back up, instead the words "Piss Off" were flashed onto the curtain. It was the perfect ending to a perfect show. The crowd went crazy!
