Go up and on the road early on Saturday (4/13) and arrived in Montreal about 10:30am. After settling into our room, I called Moe's Deli on Monatage to make a reservation for that afternoon. Too late! All booked. Sigh! And I wanted to taste the best smoked meat in Montreal, too.

My DW and DDs (one aged 17 the other 13), took me on a shopping trip down St. Catherine's Street. Hit ROOTS, GARAGE and a bunch or stores in the Eaton Centre. However, it wasn't a waste of time as we ran into Reuben's. Another place that y'all recommended. Talked with the Maitre'd and was told that we should plan on coming back around 4pm or so to beat the before the game rush.

Our last stop was the Molson Centre and the Canadien's souveniour shop. Picked up a nice golf style shirt, a shirt for my DW featuring Jose Theordore (her favorite) and a couple of other things. We then returned to our room so my younger DD could get ready.

We arrived at Reuben's about 4:15pm and was seated immediately. Our waitress was excellent and recommended I order the Jumbo Smoked meat platter. Luckily, Reuben's also serves the Best Smoked Meat in Montreal. ;) BTW, EVERY deli in Montreal serves the best smoked meat in Montreal. Just one of those amazing things in life, I guess. :) The sandwich was huge! And, it was excellent. I won't pass this up for our future trips. Nice flavoring.

Oh, for dessert we split a piece of Reuben's famous Starwberry Cheesecake and something called Extreme Chocoloate cake. I'm not a chocolate lover buy my wife and DDs love it. The cheesecake was the "litest" cheesecak I've ever had. Most cheesecakes leave you with a heavy stomach, this one did not.

The Molson Centre (next season it will be the Bell Centre) was packed. This was a sold out game but one that wasn't very important to the Canadiens. They had already clinched a playoff spot and could not improve their standing by winning. And, they played that way. Five regualars were not in the lineup and their replacements did make some mistakes. However, Theordore did play and was his usual imressive self. As was Biron, Buffalo's goalie, who stole, at least, two sure goals this night.

Still, it was nice to watch Koivu play. He looked great! It was Fan Appreciation Night and there was a free program on everybody's seat. If yours was signed by a player, you got to meet him on the ice after the game and get a signed jersey from him. We stayed and watched this. After all the players had signed there's except for Koivu, they then announced the winning seat number for his jersey. The little boy looked about 7 or 8 and got the surprise of his life, plus a Koivu put the jersey on him after signing it. It was a great momment!

We went back to our hotel room after the game. I was exhausted with the 5 hour drive and walking around Montreal and being a fan for 3 hours. We did notice every restaurant was full even though it was after 10.

The next morning, I went out and scouted for a place to have breakfast. I found an Eggspectation (another place that was reccomended here) just about three blocks from our hotel. Now, this place was great. Never seen a menu with so many choices for breakfast. I had the Uneggpected (steak and eggs), my wife had Eggs in a Yoke (two toasted bagels with two egg yokes in the center covered with chedder cheese), my eldest DD had strawberry pancakes (pancakes with fresh strawberries poured over them) and my youngest had just a bagel and bacon. This was a busy place and we got in just in time (about 9:45am). As we were leaving, the line was out the door and around the corner (say about 11am).

Then we were off. A mere 24 hours after arriving but with more memories and a vow to come again!

Glad to hear you had a good time. I think I was the one mentioning Eggspectations and Reuben's.... Shwartz' though is really the best, but not as close.

With the US dollar everything is ridiculously cheap. Too bad the weather on the weekend was not what is forecast for the next few days or you probably would've been wondering for hours. A warm night and Montreal is a Zoo (sort of like Pleasure Island). And no one in Montreal eats dinner before 9:00 on the weekend. Your meal at Reuben's was LUNCH...

Sounds like you had a great time.I was really hoping that the hockey gods would have smiled upon us and given us a Toronto-Montreal play off series.I guess that will have to wait until Montreal beats Detroit and the Leafs beat the Islanders.:)

Scott....it's great to hear you enjoyed Montreal and the Habs!:D

Great to hear that you had such a good trip! I was thinking about you last week when Koivu played his first game. What an exciting night for fans of the Canadiens! The Captain comes back from the brink of death and they clinch a playoff spot! Woohoo!
