Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Sorry I missed the October month start!

I finished a duathlon last weekend so can focus on Goofy. I have had to do some training rearranging to accomodate DD6's Saturday soccer schedule. I didn't think I'd be able to swing a 16 mile training run before a 9:30 game :thumbsup2

We'll be missing RFTT this weekend due to DD16's homecoming, but are really looking forward to TOT!

What's everyone else up to?

Congrats Mel on finishing the duatholon!! :cool1:

I'm trying to stay motivated. DH is a good coach, he has me following Hal Higdon's training schedule..

Sunday 5 miles
Monday rest, stretch and strengthen
Tuesday 4 miles
Wednesday 2 miles run or cross-train
Thursday 4 miles + strength training
Friday rest
Saturday 40 minutes cross-training
Sunday 6 miles

he has tips for indoor training! http://www.halhigdon.com/Ontherun/indoors.html

while I admire those of you that train in the rain and snow, I'm so not that dedicated!!

Right now I'm doing 17 min miles - at 5 - 6 mile "wogs" (Yes, I know that's slower than many people's walking pace!)

Hello WISHers. I'm training for the half marathon and using the MfM plan. The plan started this week!!!

I've been running three miles, three times a week since spring. I started with C25K in late January. I've done three short events and plan to run a 10k in November. It coincides exactly with my 6 mile weekend.

This week is/was

S - rest
M - more rest :) driving home from my parents
T - 3 miles, R3/W1 - DONE
W - bike - DONE
R - 3 miles, all run - DONE
F - walk - DONE
S - 4 miles, R10/W3

No matter how I break it down I come in around 13:00 mpm. I just want to stay ahead of the sweepers! I read Sandy's TR and, while I want to take pics SO BADLY, have decided no camera on the course!

I've got a WISH hat, WISH nametag and am going to load up on Alien Green Mickey heads at Home Depot. We have a POP reservation, but I may move it to POR for the discount (4/7). We're only staying five nights, but I that is my favorite moderate. Getting back there would be nice.

It's going to be cold in the morning - 30. This is new for me. Ear band and maybe a vest? I've run down into the 40s with shorts and short sleeves. Lots of experimenting.

Yup, it was cold. A little breezy, too. Run felt great. Times were good and average heart rate was sustainable.

I think my Polar was a little quick. Fourth mile clicked off 50 yards earlier than usual. Nonetheless, it is my first sub 12:00 mile! I need to calibrate it again at the school track.

Now it's time for the weekend! Laundry beckons. I hope to get to the Y tomorrow and get some core/strength training in.

Ronda

Ronda you are doing AWESOME!! Congratulations!!

I find it very hard to figure out what to wear in the beginning of this cold weather, a lot depends on the wind - and if the sun is out or not!

and if I were you, take the camera ;) One of my thoughts on my first Half was "I may never pass this way again..." and I wanted to enjoy it! So if taking pictures will add to your enjoyment, think about taking the camera! I was able to stay in front of the sweepers - I didnt wait in line to have a picture taken - and I did stop in Frontierland to use the washroom! (flush and a/c!!)

I was going thru my pictures, and noticed I took a pic of mile 4 and mile 5 I was doing 17 min miles - but when I started at the top of the coral (the last coral if that makes sense...)

You are doing fine, and if you want to take pictures - take pictures!! :wizard:

Thanks Sandy. I run before sunrise Tuesday and Thursday. Weekend runs are when I wake up. If I don't wake until it's light out, that's VICTORY! Someone said it on another thread, I'm a vampire. I do so much better without the sun!

This week's plan.

M - bike to work - DONE
T - 3 miles, R3/W1
W - bike to work
R - 3 miles, all run
F - walk
S - 4 miles, R10/W3

Do we have any team members running/walking the Detroit Marathon on October 18th??? My friend Cathy and I will be out there cheering on a few of our other friends and want to be sure we have Scream Team support if we have W.I.S.H er's doing the race!! :cheer2:

Everyone have a great week!!

-Susan

Okay, peeps, let's get this party started!!! We are 12 weeks and 2 days away from marathon weekend!!!!!!!!!!! :dance3::banana::woohoo::cheer2:

Goofy training is going good for me, my long runs have been excellent so far, which is always a huge morale booster! I've been using John Bingham's Goofy plan, it's not very aggressive, but I am not looking for aggression, I am looking to finish the 39.3 miles, so the plan is perfect for me. My back to back runs are 4/10 this weekend--my first 10 miler since the Flying Pig half marathon in May.

Mel--Congrats on the dualathon. I seriously don't know how you do it. How was Kaley's homecoming?

Sandy--Yay for your "coach"! Great job getting the miles. Pace doesn't matter, getting your steps in does!

Ronda--Congrats on training for your first half! 13:00 miles 12 weeks is great! Take your camera with marathon morning, your pace is no where near the sweeper cut-off, you'll have time to take your pictures. And if you start to slow down race morning and start to become concerned, well just carry your camera and keep moving. It's better to have the camera and not take a single picture, than not take it and regret not having the pictures. A picture of the marathon start is worth having to lug the camera for 3 hours!

I promise, promise, promise I will not be a stranger on these boards! By the way, are we having our annual Pop meet marathon Friday at 4:30??

Well, this might be the slowest moving monthly thread in a while.

Mel- Congrats on the dual.

Ronda- Looks like you are sticking to the training plan. That Run for the Chimps at the KC zoo looks fun. We have a couple of runs in the zoo here and they are always a blast.

I have been scaling the miles back a bit getting ready for the full on Oct 25th. I did a 15 mile long run last week and will go for about the same this week. I've had some pretty good 5K times as a result of all the miles I have been putting in.

If anyone is doing the Cleveland Marathon next May of the Revolution3 Triathlon at Cedar Point I'm going to be volunteering at both events. I had never volunteered before so I figured it was time to give some time back. With Indy so close to Cleveland I knew I wasn't going to run it and since I plan on doing tri training next year in hopes to start with a sprint I figured volunteering was a good way to see a large event. If nothing else it will get me some endurance karma points.

What happened to the October thread already started?

Month of October - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

I think an OOPS moment happened  Funny, I looked at that thread because I was all jealous over Tracy's beach day photos and never thought twice when Mel started Oct again.

Perhaps Lily can combine them for us???? Please please with sugar, cherries and sprinkles on top? :flower3:

Krista? Is the baby signed up for any races/crawls? Glad to hear your training is going well. How is the IT band holding up? My fuzzy memory seems to recall you having an issue once.

MEL!!!! Congrats!!!!! Woohooo!!!!! :woohoo:

Oh and Krista! Thanks for the time reminder on the POP! Now we also need to confirm if the Coffee Meet on Monday is still at the Boardwalk this year and the time since I've only been once.

Ronda, I'm with Sandy... take the camera. You'll have it if you want it and as long as it's not a camera with the long long professional lens I'm sure you'll be fine. I dragged mine in the Princess, never took it out but wish I had. Had I not taken it I would have kicked myself. So at least I had the option to use it

I'm so confused! :confused3

I'm planning on the Monday am coffee meet!! and the Friday Pop Meet!! :cheer2:

Sorry, mea culpa, my bad and all that. I came looking for an Oct thread and didnt' see one, only found Sept. So sorry!

3 miles tonight for me, I'm traveling this weekend so trying to figure out how to work the b2b runs.

Krista...homecoming went well. She went with a group of girls to just have fun, so no pressure. Next up...SATs in Nov!

Sandy! No worries! Your surrounded by tons of people who all know the full hand Disney point, so we can wipe that confusion away and point you in the direction you want :wave2: <<<--- see a full hand pointing or waving. LOL

What's the confusion? I'm planning on both too! :)

Mel! Woohoo on getting in the 3 miles tonight. Good luck working out the b2b issue for this week. The after work ones are so rewarding afterwards!

Hi all!! Finally back from our two weeks at WDW, had a blast! Got a 6 miler in while there. Good news is that the shin splints were temporary and have gone away completely now. Bad news is that DH and I both caught wicked colds while there, so last weekend's 10 miler didn't happen, and I'm pretty sure the 12 miler is out this weekend too since it's still sitting in both of our chests and heads. Hoping we survive the 1/2 on Halloween!!

Anyway, I've decided to sign up for the Princess 1/2 in March! Does anyone know if there are coupon codes out for that race? Just wondering before I pay the full registration fee...

Will catch up on what everyone is doing and post more later.

Here is the list of Wishers that WANTED nametags for the meets and are complete and sitting in a box on my kitchen table: (some of these are from this past year)

Hi folks. I am so glad I found this thread!!! I'm new to running, started in May to get in shape after having a baby in November. What a roller coaster ride it has been already! Through a long -lasting respiratory illness, broken toe, & what feels like endless aches and pains, I'm going to give the TOT 13K my best shot. Going solo, without DH & kids so I really need some inspiration!

Right now & doing 5-7 miles once a week & at least 3 miles 2 times a week. Any suggestions?
