Month of February 2010 - WISH Team Walkers and Runners Training Thread

Terri Here's wishing the snw doesn't happen--or at least isn't that much.

Frank Wow--you REALLY hate the treadmill! Glad you made it outside.

Megan Hope your TM 10k went well. What movie did you watch?

Diane Howdy! Glad to hear you're getting back into the running groove. Me too.

Carrie My DH has been out riding at/from Kensington the last few weeks. Maybe I can get him to give you a tow.;)

As for me.... did my virtual 10k yesterday and back to "the plan" this week. Not much else to report. Olympic-watching is on the list for the next two weeks.

Have a good week all.

Maura

Now we're talkign about doing our 10-miler at Kensingotn :

Better you 2 than me! :lmao: Good luck with that! I'll stick with my relatively flat course at Stony. Even that has left my one ankle/shin a bit stiff.

Feeling better today, hoping Sunday was nothing but an allergy attack.

Maura, YAY on getting in the 10K. Hope the weekly plan works well this week :cheer2:

Hi all! I just signed up for the 2011 half! Many of my friends will think I am crazy because I am currently overweight and out of shape. I am, however, determined to do this! I have started a conservative C25K program and I have also started using the GoWear Fit. I am so excited! I am enlisting all of my family, friends, and several coworkers to keep me motivated. I have also started a blog. I figure that if I tell a whole lot of people, then not only will I have more support, but I also know that if I give up, it will be very embarrassing.

Wish me luck because I will need it! :cheer2:

Hi everyone! I managed to keep up with my running this weekend - 15 miles on Saturday and then 6.2 on Sunday. Saturday was a nice and sunny day. Funny how the sunshine makes such a difference :) The 15 miles was a milestone for me, it's the longest distance I've run so far. It's about 3.6 miles less than the 30K race I've signed up for at the end of March. It was a slow distance and I felt really fatigued at the end but I'm really glad I got it done! A little bit of minor ankle soreness but otherwise I was good to go for Sunday. I thought I could get the virtual race done a little faster but I took longer than an hour.

Roselark - Congrats on starting C25K! Don't worry about what friends and family think, everyone has to start somewhere.

Maura - I'm having such a great time watching the Olympics too! The only thing is that I'm finding myself sitting and snacking more than I should be  Do you have any upcoming races?

Carrie - We have some residual snow on our sidewalks. Hills and snowy sidewalks do not make a good combination. I tried running on the roads as much as I could but it was not possible on all parts of my route. Good luck on the 10 miler if you decide on it :)

Diane - I know what you mean about overdressing! pixiedust: hope your sniffles go away soon!

Frank - Wish I was someone who could do that many miles on a TM. I have a hard enough time with 4 miles!

Megan - Did the movie help with the 10K on the TM? I think it's so cute when I see the characters dancing at the park parties!

Terri - I hope you don't get blanketted again with snow. I think next year, my area will get a ton of snow since I'm going to do the full in January.

Have a great day everyone!! :wave2:

Maura - Congrats on teh 10K! Ugh on your dh biking Kensington.. I'm not sure if running or biking is worse there in my mind.

Diane - Thanks. :sad2: ;)

roselark - Welcome! Most of us had family adn friends telling us we wre crazy at the start or for the firs tyear of trianing or are still being told that. You're in good company! Many of us started out of shalpe adn overweight too! Meet your goal and you will know a sense of accomplishment like no othere, though. Stick around here and you will make some wonderful friends on teh journey! :goodvibes

Vicky - Way to go on the 15 miles!!!! lol. The 10-miler will happen. just a matter of where it gets done. That's still up in the air. HOep I can do it at home without too much snow or too many hills. Will go for teh hilly path as opposed to TM if I have to, though.

Yes Maura, I really do hate the treadmill that much.

It was a bit snowy here today but I went out and got in just under 5.5. By the end it was a little slick but the snow was falling lightly and it made for a nice peaceful run. I am hoping the weather gets even 10 degrees warmer to make the longer runs a little easier. I can't really complain though when you compare what we are getting with other parts of the country.

Diane - glad to hear you're feeling better.

Vicky - great job on your 15!

Roselark - Welcome

AFM - unfortunately, had to skip the Valentine virtual 5K I had planned. Had to go to work unexpectedly and never made it to the gym. :guilty:
It started snowing earlier tonight. Supposedly we're only getting 2-3 inches, but that's still more than we need. Hoping rush hour is not a mess in the morning.

Terri

Hi all,

Sitting here watching the end of Team USA against Helvetica (Switezerland) in hockey. Also surfing and just found out that the sports medecine doctor I went to is the Team Physician for Team USA--the whole delegation! Sorta cool.

roselark Welcome and good luck. You will do this and we will all help.

Vicky Wow-back to back runs. Almost a Goofy plan! i am notorious for not signing up for my races til just beforehand. Except I did sign up for DLR half. Will maybe do one in March. Would really like to run away to FL and do one in the sunshine and warm, but that won't likely happen!

Carrie DH is a hard core cyclist (and fast runner) so Kensington is a lark for him. Yeah, sometimes I can't stand it!

Did my speedwork today--tough, as usual-- and then yoga. On a bright note, I finished all my miles in the Cabot Cheese over 50 challenge. Also won a prize. Yippee!

Now it's time to watch more Olympics (and I guess cook dinner) and try on my new wetsuit!

Maura

Maura - Keep me away from your dh! ;) OMG, cool abotu the doc adn the prize! New wetsuit too???? Taking Scott for one soon. I'm still afraid a wetsuit would overheat me. Even with teh 62 degree water for CHicago, I warmed up fairly quickly. :confused3 What tri's you got lined up?

Hey gang!!!!!! Today I did my first post Goofy workout...what a slug I have been. Did a circuit program and it hurt and felt great all at the same time.

Hope everyone is well!!!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome and support everyone! I am sitting at work feeling really tired and craving something sweet. I decided to take a break to read the boards and I am feeling so much better that I am heading down to our fitness room to walk 15 min on the treadmill. See how motivating you all are?! :woohoo:

Hi All
Just checking in with everyone.

Roselark - Welcome, I know where you are coming from. I actually did my first 5K 2 1/2 years ago. Did my 2nd 5K In June, did a 10K in September, and I'm planning on a 1/2 marathon in May. Just take it easy and don't try to add speed or distance too quickly.

Frank - Congratulation on getting out to a race.

Hockeychic - Congratulation on getting the goofy and for getting started back up again.

Personally, this has been a couple of bad weeks. We haven't had as much snow as the east coast but we've been getting snow consistantly. On Monday, it took me 4 hours to get home from work because of the snow (and my not liking driving in it). It normally only takes 1 1/2 hours.

I'm still not comfortable walking on the snow/ice so I've been having trouble getting my weekday walks in. I'm going to try to get out of the house early enough to stop by the gym on campus and get a walk in. Unfortunately, they have a class in the fitness room during my dinner break. I was going to do my long walk there on Saturday after class but they were having a basketball tournament and had the fitness room closed. I ended up doing my long walk, only 3 miles this past week (my first rest week), outside. I found a spot without much traffic that was well plowed, actually dry and about 1/4 mile long, I walked it twice at the beginning and end when up a hill into the town and walked around town. The hill has a fairly steep grade so that was part of the reason for the slowness. I'm going to try again this Saturday to get into the gym on campus for my long walk. This week it is supposed to be 6 miles.

I am officially doing the Broad Street Run with Team in Training. I got my website this morning. I am so much happier now that I know I will have them to train with in the spring and it will hoprfully roll right into me mentoring with them for the fall season (which starts training in a April or some time soon). That will then roll right into the winter season with training for Disney! Woohoo!

Hi everyone!

Finally warm enough to run outside. 8 miles in 1hour 12 minutes.

11 days to Mardi Gras.

This is one of my two peak weeks in training for DC (aiming at 50-60 miles this week).

Best,
Jennifer

Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting on this thread, but you all are so nice I feel welcome already:hug: I've been "running" or wogging for around 9 years now and still going strong. I've completed 3 half marathons (the DL Half in '07, the Baltimore Half in '08, and the WDW Half in '10). I think I'm finally ready to take the mental leap to the whole so I'm planning on getting my Mickey medal in '11.:scared1: To say I'm a bit nervous is an understatement, but I know everyone here will be a great support. My current plans are to run a 10K in June hoping to do well enough it will get me out of the last corral at Disney. Then I'll do the Baltimore Half again in October. That is one hilly race so it will be a great training run! Then it's on to Disney World for the big one in January!

For today I just did a 3 miler on the treadmill. There are still piles of snow all over my normal running routes and probably will be for another month so I won't be getting outside anytime soon:sad2:

Go WISH:cheer2:

Jeremy - hang in there! Life takes over for us all every now and tehn. the key is to not let it bevcome more of a habit not to get out there in teh long run. :wizard: Hope things get easier soon!

Jenny - Welcome to WOSH! ou are already WAY ahead of wher edh and I were when we started trianing for our first full. As a matter of fact, we had nto started training at this time in 05 adn did our first Mickey in 06. WHile I don't recommend our plan, just wanted to shaw you that you are well on your way. Looking forward to hearing about your journey!

Megan - Congrats on TNT for Broad Street!

We postponed last nights run. Probablly a good thing for several reasons. I pick up new oorthodics today, so I can see how they feel tonight and see if I want to try them for teh 10-miler Saturday. Debating, as I don't want to be still recovering frm blisters from Princess. We'll see how tonight goes and take it from there.

Jenny~That's a great idea to do the Baltimore half again to train for the full! You are going to do great!! :cheer2:

Dropping in to say hello to my fellow WISHers. Haven't had much free time on the computer, but I hope everyone is doing well! Hugs! :grouphug:

Jenny- Had it not been for a friend's wedding the Baltimore full would have been my first attempt at 26.2. In the end it ended up being The Niagara Falls International instead.

It ended up being a great day to get in a medium-long run here in northeastern Ohio (33 and 26 with wind chill) so I went out and did 8.11. The legs were a little sore but I think it is because I started working in more weights on the legs to make up for the lower miles.

I'm looking forward to my spring races, including the two halves.

Frank So have you run the Baltimore full? It is a tough course, lots of those mid-Atlantic hills (which are nothing like the overpasses they call hills at Disney:rolleyes:) That is one reason I'm doing my first full at Disney World (though the main reason is I love the Disney medals):goodvibes
