Month of August - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

Jen, congrats on the tri. Good luck too!

Frank, hope your 10k wen t well.

Georgiasmom, Welcome! I'm a Marathoning for Mortals person. There are some who like Hal Higdon's program. I find those a bit too aggressive for me. Hope you find one that fits you. You can always tweek them a bit too.

My 10 miles were awful for me today. I totally bonked after 8 miles and basically walked/crawled the last 1.5 miles. Ugh. Needs more work. It was pretty hot and there was this guy pacing a gal today. He looked at me as I was headed back and she was kinda still fresh so I expect just starting out pretty late/hot. He asked if I had a high mileage day too. I said 10 miles. He's got this gal doing 20 miler; today lots were doing that for an upcoming event here. I know it's 10 miles and all are worthy, but the 20 milers were looking pretty fresh in comparison.

Pretty soon "official" training begins. Whoo hoo! I've got a lot to do which is very apparant after today. Happy training!

Wow - congrats to all of you doing the really long runs this weekend. Great work! If all goes well, that will be me in a few months.

I am still sidelined with achilles tendonitis. Since it is not improving very much, I am going to call the Doctor on Monday to see about getting a referral to see someone. Given how on and off my motivation has been (although I was getting training miles in) I am surprised by how frustrating and annoying this is. I am really missing running! I guess that's a good thing!

I am going to drag my butt to the gym tomorrow for some stationary biking and maybe some light weight work. I'll keep everyone posted! I know you care, and that makes a huge difference for me,

There is a 1 1/4 mile area close to the start that is shaded well by trees. After doing the loop the first time I proceeded to just run back and forth withing that 1 1/4 mile area to finish up the 17 miles. Annoying? Yes, but less annoying than the sun was being, lol.

Sounds like a smart strategy to me! I am so hoping for cooler weather in WDW in January.

Hey Everyone.

Congrats on the high mileage.

Back down weekend for me as I did 7 miles today. Man were they hot and yucky, but when I could find shade not awful. I really enjoyed my run today so I'm pretty happy. I think it's getting closer to events or something as I really wasn't enjoying myself there for a while.

I need to find some parks or running trails around here with shade so I'll be on the lookout for those. Lord knows I'm not getting up early for them. :rotfl2:

Hello WISHers!!

PT is coming along nicely as they have me up and doing sprints and things (ladder work and step ups/step overs)
I did a nice 6 miler today (actually ahead of my Half Marathon plan as it asked for 5 miler) Nice as I think I could probably do an 8 miler with no issues at this point. Glad I did some 7 & 8's this summer so I kept the legs moving. Was told I could add a bit, and I mean a bit of jogging to my walking and I did. Felt pretty good and no shin soreness afterwards.
Weight is still coming off, slowly but surely -actually getting that thing were people are noticing and clothes are fitting differently so that helps.

Keep thinking about the Disneyland Half and the fact that I will be missing it this year. :sad2: Oh well, I will try very hard to make it next year.

Everyone seems to be moving right along with there training!! Keep it up people!

Racey Tracy

Well, I was outside at 7:00 this morning for a 8k run and was it ever hot and humid. It's been like that for the last 2 weeks and it looks good for another week. After a month of July where it rains almost everyday, it is quite a change. I guess it is what they call the warming of the planet?????? I just hope it would also means warmer weather in the winter.
This is my last day off before going back to work tomorrow afternoon. So I guess I will take it easy.
Have a nice day
Diane

Thanks Pat! I am hoping for cooler weather as well.

Checking in with a spin class this morning. Trying to add it in as cross training. This was my first try and I feel pretty good so far. Anxious to see how my run goes tomorrow morning.

Carrie- I looked at the Defy but ended up going with the Gt because I couldn't beat the price. The GT has some of the same Shimano components and is an aluminum frame with a carbon fork.

Kara and Lil- The 10k went well. It was hot and hilly so my time was down on my normal 10K time but I got 3rd overall so it must have effected everyone.

Tracy- Glad the PT is going well.

I went out on the new bike for the first time yesterday and wow, what a difference a proper road bike makes. The flat parts were noticeable but once I got to the first hill I noticed a night and day difference. Not only is the bike much lighter but not watching all that power go through the front suspension was nice.

Hey everyone just popping in to say HI!!!!!

Little mini NYC vacation....love that city...but now home and time to start GOOFY training:scared1:

Morning all!

Frank - Congratulations on the 3rd place finish!! Even if it wasn't a PB, it sure impresses me!

Tracy, great to hear that your PT is going so well, and your weight loss too!! That's alot to have going on along with training, I'm impressed!:worship:

Kira - Achillies is nothing to mess with, so I think you're being really smart. I have a co-worker who unexpectedly tore hers for a second time in the middle of a 10K early this year. Taking good care of that is so important!

Katie, I'm super impressed with the 17 miles! Funny, as I was at about mile 8 of 10 this weekend, I was thinking to myself how I know I can finish the 13.1, but I just could NOT imagine a full marathon distance. I have great respect for those of you do... :cool1:

Hope everyone has a great week...

Ok I think the weather is getting hotter. I did a 6k this morning and was it ever difficult. But I finish it which I am very proud of. And like Kara said, I am so impressed by all of you training for a marathon right now.

Well it is back to work this afternoon after 4 days off. Lucky for me, I only work 4 days and I am off for 7. life is good.

Have a nice day.
Diane

Diane - We all have our own level. Anyone who gets out in this weatehr has my admiration. WTG on the 6K!

Frank - Congrats on the new bike!!!! The Defy/Avail seemed liek an awesome deal to me compared to my other choices. Wish I had known about the GT, because our bikes were stil $$$$ in my book. Still, they were from a local store with above and beyond service, so I can't complain. Hope you are thirlled with your new toy!

Kira - Keep frogettting to ask dh for ideas. So sorry you are still struggling. hope teh doc can help!

Chris - Good luck on findign that shade. It makes all teh difference!

Had a great bike/run (brick) yesterday! (Well, except fro my tumble mid run, ugh) Still, I'm going to stick to thinkign abotu the great parts. :p

Hi all,

Good to see everyone is getting out and training. Did 10 this weekend and 4 today. Yesterday I face planted on the sidewalk while walking the dog (and answering the phone--DD calling re travel plans) Nicely scuffed chin and various other parts, but nothing major.

Stay cool out there.

Maura

Hi all! Sorry to continue with my MIA. It's been a long summer.

Just doing a quick check-in before DOOD and I head out of town. For those who haven't heard, DOOD's GM passed away Saturday, and the visitation is Thursday, funeral Friday. She lived a good, long life, was the matriarch of her family and much loved, and died peacefully, thank goodness. So I'll be mostly offline for another week or so, then things *should* settle down.

Not a lot of time for a full catch-up, but a few hellos from the past couple of pages!

A: Welcome to WISH! Yay for you and DH. I second/third? the recommendation of MfM for a first marathon. I used it, and I found the emphasis on mid-week training by time rather than distance to be a helpful way to allow me to train and still have something of a life. :thumbsup2

Maura: Great job this weekend. Glad to know you weren't too seriously injured in the dog scuffle.

Diane: I second what Carrie says. Woo hoo on finishing your 10K in hot conditions!

Carrie: WTG with your brick. It's good to "hear" the enthusiasm in your post.

Kira: Hope your achilles is feeling better.

Chris: I hear you about not getting up early on the weekends. I like to nap before and after my LRs. Sometimes during--or maybe I'm just spacing out. :lmao: Here's hoping you find some shade.

Tracy: Great news about your PT. You must be doing better if they're adding in sprints, and a strong 6 miles. (Oh, and I think I missed the townhouse update.)

Frank: Yay for the new bike! I'm so happy for you. And :woohoo: on your 3rd place finish!

Kim: Glad you got your NYC trip in--complete with shopping--before the Goofy training commences. Wouldn't want you to be distracted by anything. :lmao:

Kara: Yay for your 10 miler this weekend, and for having those strong, positive vibes about doing your (upcoming?) half. Time goals call me too. Luckily, they speak very, very softly... :rotfl:

JeninGA: Yay for signing up for the sprint. I knew you would, and you'll love it! :woohoo:

As for me & the training news: I finally got a Garmin (anniversary present) and am looking forward to staring at those cold, hard numbers in the (watch) face. :woohoo: Last week was an easy week, so no b2b runs on the Goofy training plan--just an 8 miler.

Not sure what's going to happen this week, though, between traveling and the funeral service, etc. Running/working is part of my everyday life--when did that happen? But I know that my ILs don't see exercise that way and tend to feel like it's an excuse to get away from them. (Not that their perspective is inaccurate, mind you....) Any, everyone's schedules will be thrown off and I'll need to be flexible; I just knew I should have been keeping up with yoga. :lmao:

Debra, sorry to hear about your GM:hug:

Maura: Ouch!!!! Hope you are on the mend

Carrie: Sorry to hear about your tumble....Hope you are also on the mend

Diane: Good job on your 6K. Just curious, since you are measuring in K's are you a fellow Canadian?

Just finished Day 1 of the 30 day schred. THought I would give it a go. Then jumped in the pool to cool off...to darn hot here.

Have a good one all.

Kim

Just skimming through the posts.

Deb sorry to hear of your grandmother's passing. But congratulations on your anniversary with Dood.

Maura glad you weren't seriously injured.

Hey to everyone else out there surfing the boards. Heading out for my usual run in the heat.

Hi Diane, great to have another Canadian on board.

Have a great run Jeff!!!!!!

I was asleep by 8PM last night, I think NYC caught up with me:thumbsup2

Maura - :-O I feel your pain! Yikes, never got the head that way though. Hope you heal fast!!!

Debra - lol. Yes, it's good ot have good work outs again. Sitll not overly motivated. Hope you love teh new Garmin and get a chance ot use it in the next few days. (((hugs))) HOpe all geos as well as it can!

Kim - Great job on getting out there. Shred sounds pretty tough.

Yeha, I used my foot ankle adn exhaustion as an excuse not ot go out yesterday. Will yoga tonight. The bod needs it bad.

Deb sorry to hear about DOOD's gm. Sad, but it sounds like a good life and a good death. Let us know how you like the Garmin. Tell the ILs you're "testing".

I've been getting in my morning runs. I'm trying to decide if I have a touch of sciatia or a hamstring problem. I had sciatic pain in 2004 after a week long bike ride. MRI, the whole bit. Eventually it went away. Now I think it might be back. I read some diagnostic tips at coolrunning.com and will get DGF involved this evening.

I have decided to solve all ills by buying new shoes.
