Monte Cristo Sandwich

My dh and I can share one. We have often gotten it with a side of pommes frites but were forcing ourselves to finish all of the yumminess. I believe they are less expensive at Cafe Orleans at lunch. So tasty.....

This sandwich is so rich and greasy my husband and I couldn't finish one. It is really something you'll either love or not. I usually like all foods, but not this one. It is way too rich. But I agree with a pp who says you need to try it at least once. The pommes frites, by the way, are delicious!!

I guess I have a stomach of steal. I really had no trouble eating it and I did not feel sick after at all.... :confused3

I had it before in the past and I couldn't finish it, so it will be easy for 2 people to finish it. It is so good, I had to get a box to finish up later during the day. I also like the pommes frites which is good with the Monte Cristo for two people.

Here is my pic of the Monte Cristo Sandwich

Can you get both the pomme frites and Monte Cristo @ the Blue Bayou or just Cafe Orleans? Also, is it the same price at Blue Bayou (Because I can afford Pomme Frites and monte cristo but everything else at Blue Bayou seemed high.)

You can only get the pommes frites at Cafe Orleans only. The Monte Cristo at BB is way more expensive then CO Monte Cristo.

Here is the menu for Cafe Orleans and Blue Bayou Lunch/BB Dinner.

I did some digging and found some pictures from my trip 2 years ago. You could easily share between 2 people.

My (partially eaten) three cheese Monte Cristo:

I can only eat about half or less. I think they are delicious though. I usually always share because I can't stand the idea of carying food around the park.

I also don't mind spending the extra to eat at BB. I love the atmosphere so much that it's worth the splurge.

The first time I got my son to try it he was about 12. He said "Mmmmm, a meat doughnut!" Haha, that changes some peoples perspective :lmao:

I have a big appeitite and I can only eat half, along with the fruit they give you with it. My husband is not a fan, so he gets his own meal. The problem is, since its deep fried, it is not very good reheated. The grease and the powdered sugar dont taste too great the next day.

I would suggest getting one at Cafe Orleans, much cheaper than BB...even at lunch prices...is is the same dish.

This was always my favorite meal at DL, especially with the atmosphere in the Blue Bayou...but the price has gotten too high for me.

As rich as this sandwhich is, it is probably enough for two people to split. But beware, Cafe Orleans charges a $4.00 split plate fee (Blue Bayou's fee is probably $4.00 or higher).

BB's split charge is $12. I don't know what CO's is currently. You can avoid this charge by just asking for an extra plate to be brought to the table. The BB sandwich comes with veggie and potato sides as well as a choice of gumbo or salad whereas the CO version just comes with a small side of fruit. That's the reason for the price difference, but the sandwiches are the same.

I believe Cafe Orleans is also $12 now, that is what it was when I went down in December.

Edit- This was in regards to the split fee charge. Sorry to confuse anyone.

My daughter and I would share that and I'd order the pommes frittes even though she won't eat them (dork). SO and I plan to share these on our next trip. He's never had one.

I went to allears.net and it had the price of the Monte Cristo now at 17.49 and it was updated 3/11. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Good lord, $17.49??? I was thinking of trying it, but that's too much for a sandwich! You can get a really nice steak somewhere for that price!

My post was in regards of the one above mine about the $12 split fee charge. The sandwich is expensive alone with out the split fee charge, could almost buy two.

We had one last week, I ordered a bowl of gumbo and the side salad, DBF ordered the MC. We also ordered PF which are heavenly!!! The girls ordered the pasta and chicken from the kids menu but they split it because they can't eat that much! lol So, DBF and I shared the gumbo and the sandwich, I only ate 1/4 of it, he ate the rest. :) I ate my salad and the 4 of us shared the Pomme Frites...it was plenty of food!

Edited to add that there was NO split plate fee listed on the menu and we were not charged onr for the girls sharing the adult portion of the kids chicken and pasta, they simply brought an extra plate and the girls split the food themselves.
