Is their anywhere in Disney World to get a good Monte Cristo sandwich?:mickeybar

I have had a similar sandwich for lunch at Chefs de France in the past. They call it a Croque monsieur - toasted (not fried) ham and cheese sandwich. Otherwise you gotta go to Disneyland.

I haven't come across one yet on property, but they used to have a fantastic one at Jungle Jim's in the Crossroad's shopping center

A Monte Cristo sandwich is generally made with ham and Swiss cheese, then dipped in egg batter and fried.

Always educational opportunities on the DIS...

I don't even know what one is!:confused3

Here's a photo of one from Disneyland. This was at the Cafe Orleans restaurant.

Years ago they were on the menu at Colobia Harbor House but have been gone for years now.

The sandwich at Chefs de Franc eis a traditional French sandwich and not the same at all - but still very good. It is a toasted ham and cheese sandwich.

With Disney on a "Healthy foods or DIE" binge, I doubt we'll ever see the magical Monte Cristo on the east coast.

I thought that Jungle Jim's had closed. Did they move from the shopping center where Goodings is? When we went by there last spring the building was empty.

And yet they still sell them at Disneyland. Odd, that. I guess they don't care if the West Coast tourists have health issues.

I wonder if there's a Bennigan's somewhere off property nearby, because that's the only place I know that would have a Monte Cristo anywhere near WDW.

Well, the Monte Cristo has been a tradition at DL since the sixties. If they removed it, there would be a "Save Mr. Toad"-style war going on between the locals and Disney.

Not to mention most of DL's audience is locals who live within an hour of the park. It's not comprised of mostly tourists like WDW is, so the locals have been having Monte Cristos for years, every visit they make sure to grab one.

Monte Cristos, much like the non-alcoholic Mint Juleps here at DL, are institutions. If they were smart, they'd send them to WDW.

Thanks, Now that I know what it is, I think I want one!!

...at Disney World as a child. I remember it was soooo good.

It seems like it was somewhere along Main Street, but I do not know where. I always thought it was at Tony's Town Square. I was a kid, though, so who knows...

The Monte at the Blue Bayou at DLR is so good, and I vaguely recall the MC from Columbia Harbour House. I'm not sure I've ever had a MC anywhere else.:earsboy:

I've only had one at the Blue Bayou in Disneyland -- now that's a place with great ambiance! I wish there was one inside the Pirates ride at WDW!:)

Cafe Orleans (I think that's the right name) also has Monte Cristos. We liked splitting a great salmon salad and Monte Cristo when we were last at DL. We actually preferred that to Blue Bayou.

We never tried them at WDW...frankly the description scared us!:scared1: But there were two or three spots at WDW that served them in the 80s and I think also 70s.

I remember having one as a child too. When my Mom would fix them at home she would refer to them as DW sandwiches. I had forgot about them until this thread and the pic, oh how good it looks.

did it? I have no idea! I haven't been there in years, but they did used to have a good one!

BTW, I think Bennegan's is out of business too! They used to have a good monte cristo too. But the best one I ever had was at the Magic Pan, now that was a great place!
