I don't know about most of you but I feel very uncomfortable when I am picked out of an audience to do anything without being asked first. The last two times DH and I did The monsters INC laugh floor they picks people around me even the person infront of me which made me very uncomfortable. I thought they had picked me until I looked at the screen and it wasn't me. Finally they did pick my DH which he loves this attraction and participating. But my question is this. Is there a way to definately not get picked or a nice way to tell them no thank you while the light and camera is on you. I have to say if iI did get picked that would just ruin my day. I do enjoy watching the show alot I just don't want to have to worry about being in the show. :sad2:

I wonder if being in the back of the studio will help avoid being picked. We have been far back twice, and nobody around us was ever picked. It seems most of the people are in the front half of the studio.

It seems as if they always pick from the same areas for the shows. My family, all attention hounds, like to be picked so we choose those spots. lol I'm sure if you told a CM that you'd like to watch only, he/she could direct you to seats that won't be picked.

I was picked on my birthday to do the "psychotic" reading. It went on far longer than normal, and I was having a blast. At the end, I was told that I should be on stage because I was so hilarious. I loved it. :goodvibes

Hope you have a fun, stress-free time at your next MI show!

With all those people in that theatre, there is a very slim chance that you will be picked. Have fun and don't miss the show, it is great.

If you don't want to participate, no one will force you. If you get picked, simply say, "I'd rather not", and they'll go on to someone else.

:earsboy:

Oh, I know how you feel! BF wanted to be picked, so he thought we should sit towards the front and in the center. I would have DIED if they had picked me. I saw the lights come on over us when they were choosing "sully" and I though :scared1: but they chose BF who loved it. Don't miss the show though, it is great! We still call BF Hairy Scary monster, and made him a shirt to go with his name!

OK guys, I'm still a rookie to this ride so pardon my ignorance but what kind of things do they make you do when you get picked?

My DGF is a bit on the shy side and I know she wouldn't like to do anything in front of a big crowd.

Just wanted to be better prepared so I know what to expect and where to sit, with her. :)

You sit in the audience, and just play along with the monsters on stage- I don't know how else to explain it, but it's really easy simple stuff.

THAT being said- I wouldn't want to be picked either! And my little sister (she was 19 at the time) was even MORESO petrified about being picked!

WARNING SPOILERS....IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS AT THE SHOW, READ NO FURTHER! But someone asked so here ya go...

Some of the things they do:

One guy is always picked to buy churros for everyone
One person is always picked to get up and dance
A child is picked and is in front of a monster or between two monsters
Then there is a story line (The Monsters Inc one of course) where they pick the characters, Mike, Sully, Boo, Randall. They tell the story and the person has to get in character.
Then there is one guy picked who "scares" the monsters (this is always a huge hit and recurrs throughout the show).
A person is picked for a psychic reading (this is the one I did!)

Hmmm I think that's it. It's a lot of fun and always good for a laugh or twenty.

Finally they did pick my DH which he loves this attraction and participating. But my question is this. Is there a way to definately not get picked :
Did DH do something to attract their attention, such as jump up and down or wave his arms?

At Indiana Jones (Disney Studios), for example, a few extras are chosen from the audience after they try to be noticed in ways such as the above. (One of the "chosen" extras for Indiana Jones is always a CM who has mingled with the audicnce; I will leave it to your having enjoyed the show to figure out why, and also how they identify said CM within the crowd.)

Really? It would ruin your day? It would take a LOT more than that to ruin my day...especially at Disney.

Why not just skip it - after all, you probably don't want to risk ruining a whole day over 3 seconds of seeing your face on a tv screen.

Wow. Was that called for?

I can understand how it would ruin her day...I am extremely shy and self- concious and would hate to be in front of an audience.

I asked DH if we could skip it or if he could do it himself but he really wants me to go with him. I really freaks me out about being put on the spot and not knowing a head of time what is expected of me. I am also someone who hates surprises. I get upset if i'm not told whats going on.

No, no, no...you missed my point, or misread my intent. My point was, if her day would be that easily ruined in the Monsters Inc attraction, then she should be all means skip it.

Just an example: my day would be ruined if I became motion sick, because I pass out and throw up easily...I'd probably have to leave the park, or at least lay down for a good few hours. This is why I skip Mission Space. I would never chance ruining a day of my vacation, especially not for a 3-minute ride.

So if her day would be ruined by being on camera, then she shouldn't chance it.

That's what I meant...I'm glad you asked so I could clarify!

If it's that bad, your husband will understand, won't he? A ruined day for you is probably also a ruined day for him!

Some people literally have panic attacks about being put on the spot- even if its for just a few seconds! The show, in and of itself, is hilarious and I recommend you DO see it, but I'd talk to a CM before popping in. After all, there are quite a few people who are camera shy and some who are even moreso!

I just remembered another one that was funny - they showed a woman on screen with the caption "Has kissed a monster" - and then the camera moved over to show her DH next to her!

Then there is one guy picked who "scares" the monsters (this is always a huge hit and recurrs throughout the show).

That was my DH when we were there in December. He had no idea he had been picked until his picture was on the screen and the monster was saying "That guy - he scares me!" DH was a very good sport, and when it was over the CM gave him a sticker that said "I was THAT GUY at Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor."

It was fun, but I can understand a shy person not wanting to be singled out.

I'm an incredibly shy person, just imagine what it was like when *I* got the "fastest fingers" in Who Wants to be a Millionaire!? I just sucked it up and went on. Not the funnest thing I've ever had to do, and a little mortified, but that's all part of the attraction, no?

Well, IMHO, if you go and get picked to show your face on screen then it was meant to be. There is no such thing as coincidence anyway. Think of it as a learning opportunity.

Stepping out of your comfort zone, etc.

I can't imagine it would "ruin" anyone's day. That is a bit ridiculous.

I LOVED the laugh club, thought it was very funny. Especially loved hearing the laughter of all the children in the audience.

I would hate to be picked too since I'm sort of shy and don't like being in front of an audience but I disagree with them not picking someone from the back. The first time I saw this show, they picked a man the 2nd row from the back.

Also, I found this wierd but the 2nd time I went to this show, they let the next audience in even when our show wasn't finished! I guess it was a mistake since we were only in the middle of our show and the next group had to stand on the side or try to fit in the seats somewhere. It was strange.
