I just got home from MK.

When I went earlier today only the Resort Beam was running, to get to MK from TTC you needed to either go by ferry or bus.

When I left MK at about 3:30 I took the Express Monorail back to TTC and saw that the Epcot Monorails were also working.

I just saw a news report that said guests will not be permitted in the front car.

I guess we had to see that coming....and we can be extremely grateful there were no passengers up front that night.

But still, maybe one day they will reinforce the front cars enough to make it reasonable.......

Thanks for the update. We'll be there in a couple of days and I was hoping they wouldn't stay down for that long.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the driver. :grouphug:

Thanks for the info, CF.

Have you heard if Disney will do anything in honor of Austin?
I was thinking it would be nice to plant a tree in his memory near the monorail entrances. People would think of him but it wouldn't be so in your face as a plaque.

We all wish the cms our best. Thanks for all you do.

Thats a great idea!!

Did the report mention if that decision was temporary or a new permanent policy?

The quote I saw was, "Out of respect for the CM's family, friends, etc.." so it sounds like it's just temporary. I certainly hope so, as I would jmp at the chance to ride up front.

I don't know about Disney but I believe that he was from the town of Celebration and they are doing something. Not exactly the same as Disney doing it, but I believe that is where the focus is.

The what seems right now to be a temporary decision is also out of respect of the current drivers. This must be very hard for them and the added distraction of unwanted questions would be very hard right now.

If the lawyers get their way, which they usually do, no guest will ride in the front again. Despite the odds being far greater that Sasquatch will be sipping a Dole Whip during EMH than this same accident ever happening again Disney will knee jerk and end front riding.

He was not living in Celebration but he went to school here and had very close ties to many, many people here. Here is a link to the Facebook planning page for the July 11 vigil for him to be held on Market Street:

I wondered this too. If his family agrees to it, they should put a bench or a plaque or another symbol of recognition in his name somewhere on property for him. Something subtle that wouldn't cause people to go "Oh thats the guy who died on the monorail...".

I think an honorable thing to do would be to name whatever safety plan or mechanism that is implemented, after him, kind of like what the Amber Alert became. A lot of people don't realize "Amber" was a real person.

I'd go a step further and do something not so subtle for the cast members, and then something subtle for the guests. Monorails purple and pink will no doubt be back on the lines again in the future, each one should have a plaque in their control cabins as a tribute AND a mission statement to ensure safety is always priority 1. In a guest area it should be more subtle of a tribute so as not to invite unwanted questions from children to their parents, though I haven't really thought of what that could be.

would be cool if they had his voice doing the monorail announcement..you know the one you hear as your riding...

I'm curious how they used the busses to transport instead of monorails. Did busses pick people up in the parking lot instead of trams?
