Monorail ?

I thought I read on another post that the monorail would be rehabed during the spring. Does anyone have any info? I looked at the Disney website and it makes no mention of this. I would really like to take the momorail from DTD when we are there in March.

An early post said that the Monorail would be opperating in "Shuttle Mode" meaning it would not be making the complete loop, but going back and forth. They are doing work in the lagoon for a new ride.

Any changes this time around? I was pretty miffed when they "PC'd" Pirates several years ago. I hope they don't go any farther on that

ok well when I went last may they had 4 or 5 big busses taking and dropping off people in the bus area...what were they for? also, while in shuttle mode..can someone tell me the route it takes?

We were there last April and no busses in sight, maybe if the monorail is down they do buses???? We go in 15 days, so if the monorail is not running, I will let you know....

Where would they drive the bus? Can't drive one through DTD and there's really no other way through. If the monorail is down--you're walking. It's not that far to the DLH--maybe 5-10 minutes depending on how fast you go. DLR is very compact in comparison to WDW--you can walk everywhere. The walk from the DLH to the front gates of the park would be in comparison walking from the lobby of the Yacht Club to the International entrance to Epcot.

Uh yeah I am aware of the size and where everything is...been there loads...the buses came in the same way every other shuttle bus comes in...there were like 4 of them...every night we were waiting for our shuttle we would see them coming in and also leaving..thats why I asked the reason for them being there..

Those are most likely parking structure buses, not from the hotels.

They use trams for the parking structure. You might have seen small white buses that wheelchair guests can use to go to and from the parking areas. If you were on the Harbor Blvd side of DL those big buses were cast member buses that take the CMs to and from their parking areas.

Can someone post (or point me to) this years schedule for the monorail changes. I know it's going into shuttle mode soon for much of this year, and then will be closed toward the end of the year, but I'm not sure of the dates.

Also, can anyone tell me how the monorail being in shuttle mode impacts the length of time it takes to get all the people through from the hotels that line up in the morning to take the monorail into the park.

I take it shuttle mode operates with only 1 monorail. Are there normally 3? So would that mean it would take at least 3 times longer to get those folks into the park?

I'm debating a stay at the Disneyland Hotel vs. the Grand Californian. We prefer the Disneyland Hotel -- but one of the big factors is taking the Monorail into the park. If that's going to be an issue, I may spend the extra $500 bucks to stay at the GC for our trip, and have access to the private entrance to DCA as well as just being closer to the main entrance to DL.

According to this site, http://riderefurbs.com/index.htm the monorail isn't going down until September 2006-May 2007. I believe they will be rebuilding the Tomorrowland station and reopen along with the opening of the Finding Nemo submarine ride.

Since what they're doing to the monorail when it goes down will be redoing the Tomorrowland station, shuttle mode won't be possible. Even when they go into shuttle mode, they can run 2 trains. They only run 2 ever actually, because there are only 3 monorail trains on site right now and they always need one in reserve. Monorail orange happens to be in about 5 pieces over in a warehouse yard in Burbank. I don't know why it would be going into shuttle mode this year at all unless it has something to do with the track that goes over the lagoon right after the monorail re-enters DL (which it might be).

Which prompted my original question about shuttle mode. I'm looking for any input on the whether the "shuttle mode" operation dates are accurate, and how they impact the wait times for catching the monorail to/from the Disneyland Hotel and Tomorrowland.

Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage is currently under construction and will open sometime in 2007.

That's intriguing. Well hopefully it'll be open before I go in September. It sure won't be the original Submarine Voyage (man I loved the heck out of that), but it'll at least be something. And those seagulls better be somewhere in there!

I was wondering the same thing. I posted a question on tripadvisor yesterday and here is the answer I received from Darkbeer:


The original plan was to have the Monorails closed for about a year and a half, but it got changed, mainly due to the request of the hotels.
What will happen is that starting the Tuesday (subject to change), instead of doing a "full loop", the Monorails will switch to shuttle service, and only offer one way trips. Basically the Monorails will load at either Tomorrowland or Downtown Disney (the hotel stop) and then go thru Disney's California Adventure to the other station. It will then unload, and go in the oppisite direction to the original station.
This way, they avoid going over the old Submarine Lagoon, which will allow for the construction for the new Finding Nemo ride.
The shuttle service will go from Janaury thru Labor Day.
After Labor Day, the Monorail will shut down until mid-2007. This will allow for remodeling of the Tomorrowland Station, and the new queue for Finding Nemo, which will be right below the station.
