Where is a good place to get on the monorail just to go for a ride? Our first day we are not getting there till late in the afternoon and I think that would be our only chance to ride. Is there a place in DTD to get on? My Dh is a frieght train conductor and my ds is a train nut. Any tips would be great! :flower:

There are 2 monorails. One takes you from MK to Epcot. The other circles the MK hotels (Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and Contemporary Resort). There is no monorail to DTD, AK, or MGM.

The monorail does not go to DTD. There are monorail stations at the following places:

Magic Kingdom entrance
Grand Floridian
Polynesian
Ticket and Transportation Center (station for MK monorail and station for Epcot Monorail)
Contemporary
Epcot entrance

You can take a bus from DTD to any of these places and catch the monorail for a ride.

The Monorail does not go to DTD. It circles the seven seas lagon passing by/through the Grand Floridian, Polynesian, TTC, Contemp and Magic Kingdom. You can also take the monorail from the TTC to EPCOT.

The monorail only goes from MK, Ticket and Transportation Center (where you can take one to Epcot) , Grand Floridian Hotel, Polynesion and Contemporary. You could take your resort bus to MK or Transportation Center. Then take the Resort monorail for a nice trip around. You could even get off and check out the hotels!

Have fun! If you ask one of the monorail workers, you could request a ride up in the front- you may need to wait a bit though. The kids love it!

Have fun
Lisa

If you are wondering which monorail ride to take I would suggest the one from the Magic Kingdom to Epcot. Before it drops you off in Epcot it circles around Futureworld. It is very fun especially if you said your DH and DS are train nuts.

Great thread, it just gave me an idea! We are coming in for our first trip, and are having dinner at CM's the first night (no parks, we're checking in and eating). We could hop on the monorail and ride the loop after dinner, couldn't we! That might be a fun way to introduce much of it to my 5 and 2 yr old.

Glad I read! :-)

Just a note, the busses from DTD don't go to the parks until later in the day, so if you want to take the bus from DTD to EPCOT or MK to ride the monorail (or go to the parks etc), don't plan on it early in the day. I'm not sure what time they start running to and from the parks from DTD though, but I am sure someone else around here does...

We actually got to CMs too early and rode the monorail while we waited to check in. By the time we went around the loop, it was almost time to eat!

I'm afraid this may be a silly question, but here goes anyway:

If we ride the monorail from the Contemporary to MK and then want to take the monorail to Epcot, do we actually change monorails?

Yes, one monorail covers MK and the resorts (Poly, GF, Contemp). At the Transportation & Ticket Center, you will switch to a different monorail that services Epcot exclusively

Not a silly question at all. You would need to ride the monorail to the Ticket and Transportation Center. That is where you would switch to catch the monorail to Epcot. The Magic Kindom monorail goes in a "circle" and there are actaully two tracks. The inside track has stops at the Polynesian resort, the Grand Floridian resort, the Magic Kingdom, and the Contemporary resort. This one goes through the Ticket and Transportation Center, but I am not sure if it stops. The outside track takes the same route except it only stops at the Magic Kindom and the Ticket and Transportation Center. There is a seperate track, and monorail, that runs from the Ticket and Transportation Center to Epcot.

I hope this helps.

If you are planning on going to Magic Kingdom, ride the steam trains there. If you ask nicely to a CM boarding the trains they may let you sit up in the engine. When my brother and I were younger, we sat up there with the conductor. It was a long time ago, but it's always worth a shot!
