Monorail

To me it looks like the monorail at DL is just a ride for fun ?? Is it used as transportation ?
Where does it pick up and drop off. It's been 30 years since I've been to DL.

The monorail is more of an attraction at DLR than it is a true transportation system, but that being said, you can use it to go from Tomorrowland to DTD or DTD to Tomorrowland. The monorail station inside DL drops guests of in Tomorrowland, near the Autopia and Finding Nemo Subs. The DTD station is located near RFC, across from the Lego store. You do need to have a valid admission ticket to Disneyland to ride the monorail. It's not necessarily faster than walking (especially if you have to wait for a monorail or two), but it can be fun alternative to walking!

If there's a short line and you're walking from the Disneyland Hotel, it's also an effort-saving way to get into Disneyland.

When staying at the DLH, we use it for transportation. I try to save steps during our trips. My feet are beat by the time the trip ends. Last trip we averaged 10+ miles a day. The monorail saved me some I'm sure. However the walk up the Tomorrow Land ramp to load can be tough at the very end of the day.

a little tip which people might not know about. If your party is 5 or less people and you don't have a stroller, you can sit right up the front beside the driver. I did this last year with my friend. We got on in Tomorrowland and asked the CM if anyone had requested to sit up front. We were lucky no one had , so when the Monorail was ready for passengers we were brought up the front by the driver. We did a round trip and came back to Tomorrowland.

We were able to right up front on Thursday last week. The max limit was 4 people. Since there were five of us, one had to sit in first regular compartment.
On Friday when people asked to sit up front, the CM said the front was closed to riders.
