Hi all! Just starting a thread for those that have monorail collections - feel free to discuss / post here!

Also, for those looking to complete a collection, if anything is found out there, feel free to post it here.

For example, a few days ago, WDW Mail order still had some of the sign accessories for 12.99 as well as Cinderella Castle for 65 - not cheap, but still there.

They did not have the Space Mountain set, the 'tree set' or the sorcerer hat, which my son and I need. Oh well - we will check when we go down there next month.

I know you guys have some great pics... like I said, post em here!

We do not have a monorail collection yet but I see one in our future. We were in Orlando helping a new church with VBS last week and our only free day was Saturday so although it was as tough for me as the kids we didn't go to the parks. But we did have lunch at Kona and rode the monorail and boat to the resorts. We got off at the Contemporary and walked around and my 7 year old sees the monorail set! He was in awe and I couldn't blame him, I'm sure we'll see that request popping up on his wish list this year. :)

hmmm, are there only 2 of use that have / enjoy the monorail toy setups?

Hi,
My DS (12) is a monorail fanatic as well! He was finally able to pick up the blue one this past August on our trip. Funds were/are low, so ew were not able to get any accessories.....not that there were many to get! We saw the Tree of Life, CR, WDW/resort signs access., and the extra curved track and the castle play set. No Poly ( which I would've grabbed regardless of cash flow) GF, HM, ANYTHING ELSE! We have since started the Holiday shopping and ordered the CR, straight track and castle...and my folks have ordered the Main Street station set. It is really meant for the HO train, but will work fine for the monorail.
Ebay has a few items, but boy, the prices are crazy! Tha poly is the real hearbreaker for me, and the Orbitor....
have you had any luck building your set? Seems like WDW mail order is the safest bet, and while stuff is high, you know you are dealing w/ a legit place.
If you ever come across a spare Poly set, please PM me!

I'm glad to see this thread. I'm a collector and so far I have monorail (red), the GF, 2 Polynesian resorts, and 1 CR. I'm looking to add on to my set and I've been looking around on Ebay for the hard to find pieces. My goal is to build some type of display so the collection can be set out all year, not just Christmas. My track layout is getting too big to go around the tree and I have to figure something out.

I'm embarrassed to say that we have at least some of the pieces of the set but I couldn't even tell you which parts. My dad owned it but when they moved, he didn't have the space to set it up so he gave it all to us. We haven't even opened the boxes yet. I'd like to set it up in the kids' playroom but can't decide how I want to do it since it'd need to be set up towards the ceiling.

I got caught up in "monorail fever" a few years ago. We bought Spaceship Earth and the Contemporary Resort and, I too am embarrassed to say that they are still in their original boxes. I never got around to playing with them. The monorail used to be prominently displayed in our living room, but I'm pretty sure that it got put away when my wife redecorated. The only monorail toy that I know the location of is my refrigerator magnet. I like to press the button every time I walk by the refrigerator. I guess I had better be careful or it might "disappear" too (if it becomes too annoying).

We have the monorail, Contemporary, and Spaceship Earth. They are put up every Christmas around the base of our aluminium 1950's Christmas Tree.

We saw some of the newer accessories when at WDW in September, but they seem "cheesier" and not as realistic as the original pieces to the set. :thumbsup2

I couldn't believe the "cheesy factor" of some of the accessories myself, including some of the older stuff. Disney could have done so much better with some of it. I saw a new Cindy's castle go for big bucks on a website and it didn't look like it was worth 10 dollars. It looked like whoever designed it, didn't put alot of thought into it. I think the CR is one of the coolest of all the accessories that I have and it's impressive when it's put together.

We have the monorail, CR and Spaceship Earth. This last trip we bought the sign accessory set because it was on clearance. We wish we would have picked up a Polynesian 2 years ago because we don't see it at WDW anymore.
I don't want a castle, tree, or MGM hat because the monorail does not go by those things! I guess I'm a monorail "purist".
I can also say when we set it up around our tree that the CR is the hardest--it continally falls in on itself--DH promised me he'd give it a try this year and see if he can do it better than I can!

We love our monorail toys  We have purchased two of the basic monorail sets, all of the WDW accessories, quite a bit of extra track and the train set. We set it up at Christmas and it takes up a ridiculous amount of the living room(and I say that proudly). My only complaints are that one of the monorail trains is sluggish. It will run ok for a while, then struggle to make it around the curves.
I have changed the batteries many times but that doesn't help much. The other thing I wish I could do differently is have everything closer to eye level.
So much of the detail is lost looking at it down on the floor(and I don't spend much time on the floor ;) )

We have a black stirpe monorail, the monorail switching station, Spaceship Earth, Astro Orbiters and the Polynesian. We have a bunch of extra track, too, so we can use the switching station for the Epcot route or the Magic Kingodm route.

We'll break it out a couple of times a year, and always put it around the tree at Christmas.

I have the just one monorail train the black stripe one also. Just the Astro Orbiter. Lots of track. At Christmas the monorail goes around the tree not a train.

We have a train garden with the monorail in it.

I just didn't really like the look of the other stuff. Well would like ROBO's cali screaming rollercoaster.

But you are more then welcome to see it all in my DD's TINK ROOM in my Sig

Has anyone made their own sets...accessories? With all the computer and photoshop stuff, seems like the "storefront" look could be done for a lot of background scenes. I know my son would duplicate Tomorrowland, or rather, what you can see of it as the monorail leaves MK and heads to CR. I think it is fun to build a little bit of the magic and relive the memories. I hope as we begin our monorail set up that we can have a permanent spot for it...on a table/platform, I agree that eye level is so much nicer to enjoy, with a little WDW music piped in. Sounds like some nice arrangements you all have set up, and I guess we will set our monorail up around the tree for the first time this Christmas!

I also have collected quite a bit of the monorail accessories. I am am moving to a condo soon and I am going to set it all up in the second bedroom. I found most of my accessories and my local Disney Character Premiere store so you have one of those in your city, they sometimes carry the items that are no longer available at the parks. Currently they have the MGM hat, the newer SE and the accessories set with the 2 trees and Main Street lamp. I have the red stripe monorail, WDW Haunted Mansion, CR, Poly, GF, SE, Train Station, HO scale train, Test Track race set, and the MGM hat.

Anyone have the new light blue stripe set with the opening doors and characters? I've have the old red stripe version and plan to get the new set next week on my trip to WDW.

all they sell at WDW is the blue stripe, extra track, and the Cinderella playset. Looks like everything else is retired for now.
