Hi all!

We were at VGF Labor Day week for a couple days and took the monorail to MK for rope drop. Left about 8:25 for 9:00 opening and there was no line for security. Just a few people ahead of us. Had lots of Main St. time before the show. Of course, this was a very slow week given it was Labor Day and Irma was on the way.

We will be back over Memorial Day, so significantly higher crowds. Staying on the monorail (just not sure where since our 7 month DVC window hasn’t opened yet. Maybe VGF again.) Does security back up at the MK resorts in the morning during the higher crowd times? How early would you head to the monorail for a rope drop during a busy week?

Thanks!

I've stayed at both GF and Poly several times this year spanning busy/slow time periods. I really don't think the morning monorail to MK experience at that hour changes much with crowds. The new security setup and Main Street opening 7:45-8 for a 9AM opening really helps with an orderly, efficient flow of people in the morning, as you experienced. That same experience still applies to a 'busy' time as well, in my opinion.

Since they started the new security setup in April, I have yet to see any of the resort monorail security stations really "backed up" at any time of day in a way that materially impacted out timing.

Like with all things involving Disney transportation, YMMV, but I suspect your experience will be about the same.

Have fun!

Just pay attention to park hours. I think at Memorial Day Magic Kingdom opens at 8 AM, and in my experience, the busiest days are also 7 AM EMH at MK. I've noticed it's less busy the earlier it is. I'd agree, too, that a more popular time of year doesn't really impact wait times at the monorail resorts. We were just at the CR at Columbus Day, and I don't think we ever waited more than a minute or two at the bag check.

I was at Poly Columbus Day weekend. :wave2:

Same experience, minimal monorail waits all weekend. And I thought Sat & Sun were pretty stout crowd wise in the parks! :crowded::crowded::crowded:

Poly, and the rest of the Monorail resorts are booked 98+% at all times. So the actual number of potential guests trying to get through security at the resort for any MK opening is going to be pretty much the same every day of the year - holidays included.
