In light of last nights monorail crash I was wondering if there have been any other monorail accidents in the past. I always thought the monorail was the safest mode of transportation for the family.

this was the first fatal accident in the Walt Disney World Monorail System’s nearly 38 years of operation.

Thanks, that is reassuring. Isn't it funny how an accident at Disney feels like an accident at home - no matter how far away you live?

It was 2am and sounds like maybe it could have been due to exhaustion causing driver error. Happens to auto drivers often.

If you think about how many trips they've taken in all the years they've been in service it's pretty incredible that this is the first time it's ever had an actual crash. 38 years, 365 days a year, multiple trips every day, nearly 20 hours a day.

I would much rather ride on a monorail with my family than in a car on the highway anyday!!

So sad. An accident can happen to anyone but Disney seems to do an amazing job with safety and the care of their guests. I won't think twice about riding the monorail. I will probably say a little prayer for the driver who died when I do get on the next time.

Yeah I feel the same. Its terrible whenever something like this happens. As far as riding the monorail again without a doubt I would ride it again. I do however feel that riding in the front will be banned temporarily if not indefinitely.

It does make me think twice about riding in front with the kids, though.
I second that one on riding in the front. My 4 year LOVES the monorails (he could live in it and never leave there-that plus Thomas the tank engine) and we did ride in the front the last few times.

I, too agree that riding in the cab will most likely be outlawed from here-on-in. Glad we got to do it a few times.

Not to make light of the accident though- I feel so sad about what happened :sad1:
