Monorail Resorts

I've read a lot about people's favorite buildings/floors/views, but given that you don't actually know what you'll get until you check in, I'm just wondering if you recommend the Poly under any and all circumstances. (I guess 15 trips should speak for itself, but I can't help but ask! We'll have our 6-year-old with us, in case that flavors your response...)

Thanks!

Yes, 15 trips to the Poly, 6 to BWI, 1 to DL and 1 to SoG; and these have all been since 1/91. Each trip averages 8-9 days.

Only had 1 problem with a room.............
4 or 5 years ago we checked-in to get our GV room and were given a LV at the Somoa (Tuvalu now?). We thought it was great until we opened the door. The room was infested with small knats (and I mean INFESTED) and had a musty odor, I don't believe anybody had stayed in this room in quite a while. Told bell services not to unload our luggage and immediately called the front desk and informed them of the problem. We were given a new room over the phone, one of the girls met us there with new keys. We got a nice room in the Oahu (I just hate the new names) 2nd floor pool view.

Tip - The earlier you check-in, the better your chances of getting the room you desire. If we can't get an early flight we'll stay at an (gasp) off-site hotel for the 1st night and check-in at 6-6:30, then head to breakfast.

Our son was 9 on our 1st stay at the Poly, 1/91, in fact it was the day the bombing started during Gulf War I. He's 22 now and plans his leave from the Navy for trips to WDW. When we arrive at the Poly we feel as if we're home.

Your 6 yo should love the Poly. Take him/her to the beach or the dock at night for the EWP. Have a great time.

I went through this same delima recently. I booked a room at CR, then my hubby said he was afraid CR was too "hotel-like" and NOT being from FL he likes tropical, as do I. We could not afford a tower room. So I called my cousin who used to work at Disney central reservations and she knows us so well. She said we would love CR because of all the activity and we have a little boy. She said Chef Mickey's is the best character breakfast and CR has one of the best arcades. She's speaking my son's languange. It sounds like if you can do a tower room, that's the way to go.

HOWEVER, she talked me into changing my ressie to the Poly because of the pool, "resort-like" feel my hubby wanted, and still have the monorail service. She said it's her favorite and her parents favorite. AND it sounds like a GV in the Poly is going to be nicer than a GV at CR, which is all we could afford.

I'm sure we'll like anything. I'd say you'll be happy with anything, too. So don't get too worked up about it.

Now the fun part is, my family doesn't know I changed the hotels on them. I'm going to surprise them. I plan to ride the monorail to CR and visit Chef Mickey's and the arcade. That's the nice part. Pick one hotel (if you're really stumpped, draw from a hat) and then "hang out" some at the others and then stay in a different one next time.

We like to visit a different hotel on our last day to consider future trips. With the monorail, that will be easy to do.

One last thing. Don't split your trip between hotels. It's relaxing to be able to unpack once and have one "home base" during your stay.
