hi, i want to stay at the grand floridian but i am reading online about monorail refurbishment through december. can you please tell me more information? my travel dates are October 24-nov 2
it doesnt say which monorail. we would use the resort monorail. i chatted online w/ disneyworld.com who said that they show no near future refurbishments and that it is operating normally which could change without prior notice. well i think they should notify people who are spending thousands of dollars to stay at a monorail resort!

They are refurbishing all of the monorails.

When I talked with a CM several weeks ago, she said it was supposed to run into early December. I think she said there were 9 monorails in total and they were bringing one down at a time for refurbishments. They were doing them in no particular order, meaning resorts may be running perfectly one week, then the next week, be on a limited schedule. She also said that they were a little ahead of schedule at this point.

Of course, take what a CM tells you with a grain of salt. If anyone else had a CM tell you anything else, please let us know.

When we went last year they were working on switch repairs or upgrades and they had buses to help with early pre park hour and ADRs and we found disruption minimal at best - whatever rehab is going on now I wouldn't worry

I don't understand. I feel like they've been fixing and upgrading the monorail for yearrrrsssssssss. yearssssssssss.

we have adrs at Ohana for breakfast and dinner, and our plan was to take the cute little boat from GF to Poly and then since we would then be on the 2nd floor, we would take the monorail back to GF. Now what will I have to do?? If they have more boats taking guests from GF to MK, does that mean it won't go it's normal order to the Poly first? So i have to go to MK, get in a huge line to get a boat over to Poly?? If we are done with breakfast around 10-11am, that is when the resort monorail won't be working?

We were at BLT May 26th - June 2nd. We went to take the monorail from the Contemporary one morning to EPCOT, only to find out that that monorail wasn't working. We had no idea. We had to take a bus to the TTC, and it ended up taking an hour and half to get to EPCOT. We left the hotel at 8:00 and it was after 9:30 before we reached EPCOT. We missed rope drop and all of the waits were over an hour for the major rides by the time we got there.

The way home was even worse. They were doing "enhancements" to both monorail lines, and it was 2 hours from EPCOT back to BLT. We were trapped in the monorail. Just sitting on the tracks.

If you have plans to stay at a monorail resort for the convenience of the monorail, be diligent about the refurbishment schedule. The monorail "enhancements" can really affect your stay :(

On our April trip, we knew that express monorail was going to be down 11am-6pm certain days of the week, so we could plan around it. But you have no idea which monorail line they'll be working on, or when, and it's possible you might not know until that day, like previous poster trying to get from Contemporary to Epcot. You might have no problems at all. But IF the resort monorail is down, you also don't know if they'll be modifying the boat routes. And GF and Poly are close enough, if transportation is a disaster, you can walk (only 5-10 minutes).

This may help ...

We just got back from WDW (staying at CR). We never hit a monorail delay but never tried to do rope drop either.

WHEN WILL the hours for fall be released? The cm i spoke with said only 2 weeks notice.
They shouldn't be able to give short or no notice. Disney has adr no show charges, well what if you're stuck on the monorail? I think we'll do the walk to Poly!

MUST comment on monorail resorts, given the current state of the monorails....

Sandy and I have never booked a MonoRail Resort. Just our nature, we love the Wilderness Lodge...

Today? I would NOT book a Monorail Resort in anticipation of actually GETTING a Monorail. Book it if it seems to you to be a better hotel. Or book it on the CHANCE of getting a monorail - your choice.

There is a very good reason for WDW to run busses to the GF, Poly, Contemporary on a fairly regular basis: the monorails go down a LOT. When those busses go away? Opinion - there will then be Monorail resorts. This will be a choice that Disney makes.
