Hi! I'm trying to decide which restaurant to book for breakfast. We are going in December and I really want to ride the monoral to all 3 hotels and check out the decorations, so I thought I'd book a breakfast for me, DH and DD (who will be turning 1 while we're there!). I should also mention that DH is a picky eater and not adventurous at all!

So I don't know if I should book the Grand Floridian Cafe, Kona Cafe or the Wave? Which one would you choose for breakfast and why? Also, in case you're taking it into consideration, we will be paying OOP and probably parking in the MK lot so we can head to the park when we're done with our little tour.

Thanks!

The only breakfast we have eaten at, out of your list of choices, is the Kona Cafe. The Kona Cafe is really good at breakfast time (we do enjoy it for dinner more and will be trying it for lunch on our upcoming trip) with it's Tonga Toast and Macadamia Nut Pancakes. However, the Grand Floridian is gorgeous at Christmas time with the Ginger Bread House and the huge Christmas Tree so you may want to consider that one. The only breakfast we have ever eaten at the GF (numerous times too) is 1900 Park Fare which is the Character breakfast there. Good luck deciding and have a wonderful trip....we loved going during the Christmas season :goodvibes

I vote Kona. I love their breakfast choices & the prices are very fair (in comparison to some other Disney breakfasts!) They have all of your traditional breakfast entrees plus Tonga Toast & Macadamia Nut Pancakes- yum!!

We like O'hana but that is a character meal.

If you're going to look at decorations, the Grand Floridian is your best choice. Not only do they have that gigantic Christmas tree, they have a full sized gingerbread house. You can see both from a distance, and up close and personal when you go down to the level where the GFC is located. In fact, you'll have to practically touch the gingerbread house on your way to GFC because they put it at the end of the corridor that goes to the restaurant!

While I like the Kona breakfast (Tonga Toast and the Macadamia Nut Pancakes are both fabulous) best, the "island Christmas" theme doesn't even come close to what's there at the GF.

Both locations offer standard "non-adventurous" fare for your DH (pancakes, eggs), and more adventurous offerings for you (Lobster Eggs Benedict at GFC, Tonga Toast at Kona).

Thank for the replies. Just out of curiousity, since it seems like everyone is so knowledgable about the Christmas decorations... does the Contemporary have anything worth traveling over there for? Wherever we end up eating, I'm definitely seeing that tree and the gingerbread house at the GF. But if the Contemporary decorations are nothing special, then there's no point in spending any time traveling over there and/or eating at the Wave...

We have only been to Kona and it was, without a doubt, the best breakfast we have ever had! Coffee was fantastic and we love the Samoan eggs and macademia nut pancakes. The atmosphere is very relaxing and service has always been great. Good friends of ours ate a GF Cafe for breakfast a few months ago and loved it as well. I have read mixed reviews about the Wave.

If you have the time, I think its worth visiting all 3 resorts to check out the decorations. Its an easy monorail ride away and I think all 3 resorts are beautifully decorated and worth stopping by.

Our Ratings of The Wave (Breakfast Buffet): (rev 2/5/2012)
. . . food price value: B
. . . food quality: B
. . . food quantity per serving: A
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: B
. . . seating comfort: B
. . . eatery atmosphere: C
. . . eatery convenience: B
. . . staff friendliness: B
. . . staff attentiveness: B
. . . character interaction: n/a

NOTE: This is a new location for a breakfast buffet. The
buffet has significantly increased its variety, and now is
very much worth the visit. At just under $20 per adult, it
is extremely reasonable for a WDW buffet. For breakfast,
it's probably the best-kept dining secret.
It has Mickey
waffles and delicious sweet potato pancakes. They use
local fresh fruit and vegetables. For those with a smaller
appetite, one can do the usual ala carte breakfast menu.

In what order does the monorail make its stops (in other words, how many stops from the Contemporary to the MK, GF, and Poly)? Am I missing any resort along the line? TIA!! :)

I've been to all three and I think that the Grand Floridian Café is the best.

I think the Kona Café's signature items are too sweet and I'm not a fan of their egg dishes either. I also don't like the restaurant's layout. It's too open, noisy and impersonal.

I haven't been to the Wave for breakfast in a while. I didn't care for the food when I went, but the menu has changed significantly since then and now includes an optional buffet. Again, the dining room's lack of ambiance prevents me from returning.

The GFC, however, gets it just right. The restaurant is beautiful in morning light, and the food is outstanding. Try the lobster eggs Benedict or the maple vanilla French toast.

January 3, 2012 I went to the Wave for dinner. The food was good but the atmosphere is very bland. I can't even remember any theme at all. Maybe the 1960s?

All the holiday decorations were still up everywhere around WDW. The MK was gorgeous! But I thought the Contemporary was very minimalist with their Holiday decor. I'm not sure I'd go out my way to see them.

While i love kona breakfast, i dont think the atmosphere is visually appealing. I agree with the pp who said its open and noisy. GF cafe is far prettier....and around xmas time theres a lot more to see. And they do have a good breakfast menu.

Wow lobster eggs Benedict sounds fantastic! How did I miss that when I looked at the menu online?

I find that the Kona Cafe is the best of the breakfasts in the monorail resorts. It never disappoints.
