Monorail Resort

We have plenty of time to upgrade. I am going to pay off the bill in full and then see if I can save up the difference. If I can we upgrade, if not, it is still going to be a lovely time at WDW regardless of where we stay.

Thanks for all the different aspects and things to consider.

For sure! WDW is magical regardless of where you stay! If you upgrade, added bonus :)

I just wish that their pool wasn't so "unfun" looking! That is what my DH is totally turned off by, their pool. That is why he's choosing Poly over Contemporary, the pool at the Poly seems more "age appropriate" for younger kids. The CR pool isn't zero entry is it? Are there lot of conventions at the CR?
I don't remember if their pool is zero entry. As for the convention groups there might be the odd one going on, however based on my experience when seeing them they are there with their families or they are minding their own business and not bothering anyone. So you might see them the odd time looking around on the 4th floor. However most of the times they would be somewhere on the 2nd floor where the meeting rooms are, or inside the convention center.

I'm pretty sure the CR pool is not zero-entry. The beach is. :)

An additional $200 per night seems a lot to pay but (for me) it would depend on whether that got you an MK view or a standard view in the garden wing. I really enjoy staying at the CR but if I were going to upgrade from POR to a deluxe I'd have to go with WL or AKL if you were not going to get an MK view. That is, I just can't see that being on the monorail is worth that much of a price differential.

I'm a "big kid" (in more ways that one) and love trains, monorails etc. As much as I enjoy it, I found taking the monorail got old especially when it was crowded and especially when going from the CR to EPCOT (changing at TTC). [Flames begin.] After a few trips on the monorail, your 5 YO will probably enjoy walking to the MK as much as anything - that was one of the most enjoyable things we did. There is no substitute for having the MK in your back yard.

But like someone said, you are at WDW. Have fun regardless!

We just tried POR and while we LOVED this resort, I do have to admit we missed the easy access to the parks. We've stayed at CR, Poly, and all the Epcot resorts and I can't say enough about how relaxed we feel when we stay at these resorts. And when we stayed at POR, we did get a bit more wiped out, lol, but no big deal. We just felt like we needed to stay at the parks longer because it wasn't as easy to hop back and forth to our resort. Some families, though, love spending the entire day/night at the parks, so easy access to parks is not an issue to them. We are a family that likes a lot of resort time and we also have young children so we prefer to easily get to our resort during the afternoon each day, then back to the parks around dinner time.
