Monorail resort hopping with a toddler?

We are staying in late January 2019 at AKL. On our free day I was thinking about doing a monorail resort hop, including a boat ride to WL in that as well.

My question is this- do you think this is a good idea for something to do with a 2 year old? He LOVES riding the monorail and since we are staying at AKL this might be our only chance to do so on this trip. What are some things at each of the 4 resorts that we could do or see with him that would be interesting? We would probably do this in the morning, and end up doing a QS lunch at one of the resorts.

Any suggestions on whether or not it’s a good idea and some things to do or see at the 4 resorts (GF, Poly, CR, and WL). Thanks so much!!

So- we just did this (although not with a 2 year old- I think it would be just as enjoyable). We monorail hopped and did the pressed penny machines with my 4 year old (8 year old too). We bought a pressed penny book at one of the gift shops and it was a fun activity to do that they became slightly obsessed with. We also walked around- checked out shops, had a dole whip break at the Poly, quick service lunch at Gasparilla's at Grand Floridian Cafe (we like it there as its less chaotic and they bring the food to you) and played some yard games by the courtyard pool. It wasn't a FULL day- but if you ride the boats- as well- you pretty much have all form of transportation checked off.

While babysitting our grandson when he was three, we did something like this-he enjoyed the first half hour and then was pretty much over it-we took the boat as well. Again, he was ok with it but not thrilled. Honestly, what he loved the most was the pool! And AKL has a great splash area for the little ones. If I had down time and the weather was nice I would just spend the time at the pool.

Spend your free day at the resort. Don't do the monorail resort hop with a 2 year old. Your little guy will appreciate a day where he can walk around and free play at AKL rather than being restrained in a stroller or a lap while riding different forms of transportation. We just went with my nephew in October. Two year olds want to move and explore and play more than they want to shop and check out the resorts. You will also appreciate a break from managing a 2 year old's behavior. Do yourself a favor and spend your off day just hanging out

WHy don't you plan dinner one night at a monorail resort and then take him on a monorail ride. I am not sure a 2 YO would like spending a day resort hopping, however a visit for a meal and a little ride might be fun.

Thanks for talking me out of it everyone, I needed that lol. There were really only two resorts that I wanted to visit anyways and we scheduled meals at both of those. We are spending our free day at our resort, something we’ve never done! We tend not do anything relaxing at Disney so I’m very excited!

I'm glad that you posted this as we also will be taking a toddler (2.5) in March and wanted to do a resort hop one day. Though we are staying offsite so that adds a bit of logistics. I still think we may do more a mini resort tour where we ride the monorail, get off at one hotel, have lunch, go back to the house, nap, and then give him the rest of the afternoon/evening to run around on the playground. Unfortunately it will likely be too cool for the pool. But this might be just enough relaxing to give us a break but not bore my son to tears!

We just stayed at the Poly in Feb with my 2&6 yo. We visited GF and CR for meals and checked them out a little but I wouldn’t personally spend a day resort hopping with a toddler. For an adults only trip then yes— you could stop at the bars and have a drink, eat, shop, but I personally don’t have as good of a time doing things when my kids are antsy.
We stayed at AKL last year and I’d rather spend the day there. I know you’re not asking for advice on this but just wondering why you don’t add an extra Park day in? Even if you went to AK for a little while it would be worth it, then hang out at the resort in the afternoon.

Agree with the above - young kids need time to run and play and the AKL is a great place to spend the day. The pool and playground will be a great break from the parks. Just take a monorail and or boat ride when your at a park/resort for a break from the heat/crowds instead.

We took our 18 month old to Disney and his favourite thing was the playground at PO Riverside. I agree that a resort Day at AKL would be a way better off/rest day than a resort tour. But to each their own.

We did something similar last fall with a 4.5 yo and a 2.5 yo. The both enjoyed it and they really enjoyed running around the turf at Poly and looking inside VGF. The cafe at Poly was delicious!

If you do decide to resort hop.... remember, except for the pools, the other common areas are open to you. You can play on the playground, run on the beaches, etc. you could grab a snack at one resort, maybe pick out a small toy at a gift shop at another. We haven’t did a true resort hop except for a Christmas trip in quite a while.
