Can you ride the monorail at any time? Or only when heading to the Magic Kingdom? I was curious if we could ride it on our "off days" from the parks as a ride in itself...if we were allowed. And also, we can visit any of the resorts during our stay at the Fort?

You can ride the monorail anytime you wish. You can take the boat from the fort to the Contemporary Hotel across the lake and catch the monorail. Then at the transportation center you can switch and ride to Epcot or stop and tour any of the resorts it stops at.

You can also drive to or take a bus or boat to any resort.

Monorail, boats, busses ridership:
. . . anyone can ride
. . . anytime you want you can ride when they are operating
. . . people do not have to have park tickets or be staying on-site

NOTE: Some people, like me, jump on even when we are not going anywhere
and just want "the ride". Doesn't happen every trip, but when the mood hits . . .

Yep, we often boat over to the Contemporary to hop the monorail to the Polynesian to soak up the atmosphere (and the Dole Whips!) You can visit any of the resorts....that's actually a lot of fun to do, seeing how different they all are.

Please confirm...you can get Dole Whips at the polynesian? I thought you could only get them at the Magic Kingdom.

We have a tradition that we call the "Monorail Crawl", we will take the boat from the FW to the Contemporary, jump on the monorail and stop at all the resorts along the way. The adults will get a few adult beverages at each stop while the kids play in the arcades. Sometimes we will throw in the "Find the hidden Mickeys" at all the stops as well. That usually will take up a whole day by itself. But to answer your original question, yes, you can ride it any time that it is running.

Definitely take the ride to Epcot, even if you're not going in! It's such a great view, one of my favorite things to do.

You can/could. It's on the menu here for Captain Cook's, the Dining Quick Service choice at the Poly.

It's listed as a snack right after the adult dinner choices.

However, the Poly is in a construction mode with DVC rooms and bungalows and also the lobby area being reworked. So some of the food service places have had to move, set up temporary locations, etc. Best to do some homework to find out if Dole Whips are still available during the construction phase.

Bawb would approve.::yes::

Thank you for the Dole Whip tip!

They don't have the orange there, only the pineapple and vanilla (and you can swirl those two.) Good stuff :) The orange is my fav though, so I have to go to MK for it. I have heard that they're not available at the Poly during construction, but since my next trip is way far off, I'm not keeping up with the details too well.

There also is a self serve Dole Whip machine pineapple only at the Contemporary Hotels Contempo Café, you can put as much Dole Whip as you dare into the bowl.
