Does anyone know how much the Monorail set costs? The one that is motorized that they have at quite a few of the stores. Also is it still available? Thank you so much!

Yes, it is still available and is $60.
We purchased it for under our X-mas tree and it's still in the box.
They have all kinds of extras for it too!!! :santa:

at Once Upon a Toy in DTD last week it was at 70.00, they must have went up, maybe online its cheaper? however at MouseShoppe.com its 80.00.

It's $70. I just ordered it from WDW Merchandise phone number and she first quoted me $60, then said, whoops, it went up, it's now $70.

1) The monorail set is $70.00 at OUAT in Downtown Disney.
. . . monorail train
. . . track
. . . posts/pylons
2) You can also buy "stations" and "attractions" for $17.95-$89.95.
. . . railroad train station
. . . contemporary resort
. . . space mountain
. . . spaceship earth
. . . sorcerer's hat
. . . test track
. . . polynesian resort
. . . grand floridian resort
. . . various resort signage accessory
. . . extra track and switches accessory

Thank you so much! I am thinking about getting it to put under our christmas tree. Now if only I can talk my husband into ordering one! :rolleyes1

I believe the monorail price went up b/c the new set (blue stripe) has working doors and characters that you can put inside to ride around. There's been speculation that there might be new accessories soon too. But many of the resorts and attractions have been discontinued over the last few years. The Poly and GF are gone, so is Space Mountain. Not sure about some of the others Rusty mentioned. I just spoke with a CM in merchandising when I called last week to see about ordering, since our last trip was in June '05. She said they were getting more Contemporaries and they had Tree of Life in stock, but not much else right now.

But, discontinued items frequently come up on ebay and if you look often, sometimes you can snag something that's no longer sold. I just bought DH the discontinued Dumbo attraction for Xmas! It cost me $100 when all was said and done (shipping etc.) and a year ago it was less than half of that. A year before that, they were just being pulled from the resort stores and cost about $20-$25. Discontinued monorails are also considered collector's items (Disney puts out a different "color" every year or two and some people focus solely on collecting the different colors).

That's what we do!!! It looks really cute because 90% of the ornaments are Disney related.

We just got back from WDW last week and bought the monorail. There was not much available for it. We already had the castle (that was available) the monorail set and the Tree of Life. There was also a switch station. That was all we saw for it and we looked everywhere.

I must say, we are a little disappointed in it. It's pretty cheap. Within minutes of having it out of the box, the doors were falling off the monorail and the characters break in half when you try to "sit" them in the seats of the monorail. They go back together but everytime you bend them at the mid hinge, they come apart.

We just got it today, and I'm wondering how long it will last as a toy. As a collectible, I guess it would be ok.

Here is some information on modifying your monorail for radio control:

and here are some photos of Disney's N scale pull-back toy, modified to run with radio control:

We must have different sets. The monorail we have did not come with characters, & none of the doors open. It just goes around in a circle and makes announcements. We originally bought it for my 3 year old son to play with, and he played with it ALOT! Ours is still in very good condition.

The one with the doors that open etc. is the brand new version... maybe out a month or two tops?? All the ones before that one are like yours -- we have one of the older ones too and I agree, it's pretty sturdy. Sounds like the newest ones may not be the same quality. Too bad, b/c I'd like to have one with the characters riding around in it! ::MickeyMo

That is hilarious! I like Disney but the thought of that monerail in my backyard makes me laugh! I guess to each his own.

Well, keep on laughin'!

Here are some pix of what we do with our monorail and accessories in one end of our small living room at the holidays. A few of the items I built, but many are from the (mostly-discontinued) WDW/DL/DCA accessories sets.
