i have no idea how the monorail works...we are staying on site at pop for 6 days and i would like to use the monorail atleast once. how do children travel, how about babies? we will be eating at the contemporary resort as well as downtown disney. other than that all on site. suggestions welcomed.

Rent a car. You'll end up needing it and relying on it esp. with kids.

The monorail seats are like "bench" seats ... they are flat. Kids either just sit there or sit on a parent's lap. Babies must be held, or can be in their strollers.

There are 3 monorail lines.

One is called the resort loop. It goes in a circle ... Magic Kingdom (it's outside the park) to Contemporary to Transportation & Ticket Center to Polynesian to Grand Floridian to Magic Kingdom, and so on.

One is called the express monorail. It goes ONLY between MK and TTC.

One is called the Epcot monorail. It goes only between TTC and Epcot.

I think it's irresponsible to say that someone will NEED it. Some people prefer it, but it is irresponsible to say it is a NEED to someone who has never been there.

MILLIONS of people enjoy WDW with kids and without, without the use of a rental car. And many people rely on rental cars. No one is right or wrong. But again, with someone who'd never been there, to just come out and tell her she will NEED one is irresponsible. That could scare her.

As for my personal opinion on the subject ... I've taken my kids 3 times, starting when they were very little, and I've never ever wanted a rental car. Just my personal opinion, your mileage may vary. I'm not saying that no one should rent a car, just like I wouldn't tell anyone they need one, either.

i was hoping to stay away from renting a car, however, we do plan on going shopping for 1 morning or afternoon. would it be cheaper to get a cap to the closest outlet mall or rent a car. other than that we will take our chances on the bus.
btw, are there certain times for the monorail?

After your done eating at the Contemporary you could get on the Resort Monorail from there and it would be a great chance to also visit the Polynesian and Grand Floridian, which are the other two Monorail Resorts.

Not true! I have been to WDW countless times and never ever have we wanted/needed a car. Even when the kids were babies and toddlers, never has the thought ever crossed our minds.

The monorail is a fun part of the WDW experience! Grab it at the Cont. after your ressie and just go sightseeing!
