Monorail Overload & BLT

Guests have been able to cross that street for access to the MK for quite a few years now. I don't know why there would need to be any changes now.

Well, because there is a DVC there now, that's why! And we all know how DVC members tend to walk around bumping into things while perusing the latest portable perks booklet looking for discounts. It could get dangerous at that traffic signal. ;)

Maybe they can resurrect some of those 20 Thousand Leagues Under the Sea subs and float those babies right up to the boat launches. I bet you could cram close to 90 people in those things if you had to :)

Agreed.

The main benefit of the monorail from BLT for me is to get to the other monorail resorts for dining and/or shopping.
I also agree with that because whenever my family and I have stayed at the Contemporary we always use the walkway to the Magic Kingdom, because of how close it is. However since we always visit the Polynesian and Grand Floridian it's great having the Monorail right there whenever we wanted to go.

Rider capacity is also an issue. I believe the current monorails hold about 90 people if you include standing room. And it takes a little over 2 minutes to load a train. Even if they could cut it to 90 seconds per train, that's only 45 trips per hour. 45x90 means they can only transport 4050 guests per hour. I don't think people are going to want to wait around for 4 hours to exit Epcot after Illuminations.

The capacity for the monorail per wiki is 360 people. 60 people x 6 cars. I would not want to be in one of those cars with 60 poeple in it.

I would like to see a additional circuit that goes between AK,AKL,WL,DHS,TTC and maybe DTD/SSR. How the logistics would work I have no idea but it would be nice.

.

there will be more pedestrians walking from the new building (many blinded by pixie dust); think a re-evaluation of the vehicular traffic/speed limit (especially the zippy buses) that would need to be addressed at the very least:confused3 , although im sure disney has it well-thought out already:thumbsup2

I'm sure you're right that WDW has planned for BLT.

But not sure at all that there will be more guests. I've seen different numbers on the DVC units but there were 250 rooms in the old North wing. Those rooms could accommodate 5 people. It doesn't seem like much of a difference to me.:confused3

As for the buses, as I recall they turn left into the MK immediately before the safest place to cross for pedestrians. So buses should not impact guests as long as they cross responsibly. Hopefully CRFan or another CR expert can help us out here. CaliforniaDreamin is another DISser who really knows the CR.
