Just wondering everyone's oppinion on how BLT will effect the monorail service. Then got to thinking - lots of folks talk about Poly or GF eventually adding DVC rooms- at what point does the monorail system get so overloaded it is no longer a benefit?

I think we long ago passed that point. I have rarely ridden the monorail when it wasn't packed and "smelly" LOL!

During peak hours, it's already like riding the subway in a major city, with standing room only. (And as CarolA points out, there is usually a rather peculiar smell in the cars as well) Since it's such a small track and they need to keep a certain distance between trains, there may not be much wiggle room for adding additional trains either without adding more "waiting for the monorail in front to move" delays.

But since DVC folks love walking everywhere (except down the hallways to their rooms) all they need to do is make walking paths from the Polynesian/GF to the MK and that should alleviate some of the congestion.

I'm not sure BLT will have much impact on the monorail. From looking at the video & maps, it looks like it'll be a longer walk to the monorail than to just walk to MK. Just my 2 cents :goodvibes

I agree, from the Contemporary, I'd just assume walk to MK and BLT is a little closer. So walking over to the monorail station, waiting in line, etc wouldn't be worth it to me. I'd probably only ride to get to the TTC to take the monorail to epcot.

If it gets too backed up, maybe they'll make it a FastPass attraction!!!

Yes, for those folks going to the MK, but what about the folks going to Epcot?

I don't think that 60 units at BLT is going to have big impact. IMHO

Keep in mind that BLT is replacing a wing of the contemporary. The net gain of people might not be that much. I haven't done the numbers, but there may actually be fewer potential people on site. :confused3

I agree. If MK is your destination, then walking is going to get you there faster and less confined. If you walk to the monorail, then have to walk down the long monorail ramp at MK, you might as well just walk from your room at BLT. Now to other resorts, I assume you can take a bus. I'd hate to have to go to Epcot by monorail and take a bus from there if that's the plan.

I wonder how many rooms there are in the wings. I don't beleive the new building will create any more stress on the system than when there were two operational wings.

Did you mean to type "Now to other parks? If you were going to a resort other than the Poly or GF (on the monorail) or VWL or FtW (boat), then I'd suggest walking to the MK bus station and just jumping on the bus there. It's an even shorter walk to the bus station than the MK entrance!! How convenient is that for resort hopping, LOL?

I'm positive the CR has bus service (shared) to AK & DHS. So the BLT will almost surely share those buses (and the boats to VWL & FtW).

:rotfl2: So true....so true....

Is there not already the walkway around the 7 Seas Lagoon that Disney sold the named bricks on?

It doesn't go all the way around.

The only resort you can walk to from the MK is CR. You can also walk between the Poly and GF, but that's it.

If the monorail gets overloaded they can just add another one.

Its no different than adding buses. The buses are just as bad and you are on the road with tired motorist in cars.:scared1: At least on the monorail, its only a 5 minute ride and you don't have to deal with the sharp corners like on the bus. I can't tell you how many times I have fallen on peoples lap:lmao:

1. DVC folks also don't love 'walking' at SSR. They want to be RIGHT next to the main building. Everything else is TOO far. :rotfl2:

2. I was listening to one of the Disney radio stations on line today and for reasons I don't claim to understand they had a recording of the monorail on there. I got to listen to the operator say "we are holding for clearance" twice. Reminded me WHY I am not a monorail fan!
