monorail/mk restaurants??

Hi!! For the first week of our vacation we are staying at the poly without a hire car (we have ALWAYS had a car before so this is a first!!)

Anyway... as we will have our 2 small children with us, our plan for most of the week is just to use the monorail for MK and Epcot (we will have one day bussing to DTD and one to AK - but other than that we will stay on the monorail system) So....

we are already planning on the following:

O'hanas breakfast
O'hanas dinner
Chef Mickey breakfast
Crystal Palace breakfast
Whispering Canyon Cafe dinner
Le Cellier dinner

but we need one more dinner option for a MK day.

Would 1900 Park Fare be character overload?? (we have two boys under 7)
Is Liberty tree tavern worth it now the characters are gone??
Any other ideas??

Personally, I would not do another character meal (in fact I would remove one or two ). I think it's more fun for little ones when the idea of characters at a meal is fresh and exciting. In addition, the food is better at meals sans Mickey and friends.

Even without characters, I think LTT dinner still has the preplated format doesn't it?

I would try one of the monorail restaurants. The mid price ones are all good... Kona Cafe, GF Cafe, and the Wave. Or you could try one of the excellent signature restaurants on the monorail circuit if your can sit a bit longer: California Grill, Citricos and Narcoossee's are all excellent and children are welcomed.

You have a lot of character breakfasts so i wouldn't. How about Kona which is great. Or I Have heard good things about the Wave. Grand Floridian Cafe isn't bad (not great) but it serves its purpose. I've never eated at Liberty so i can't comment.

The Plaza is a great place to enjoy sandwiches and ice cream concoctions from the shoppe on Main Street. It's tucked around the corner to the right as you head down main street, across from Casey's. I think the kids would enjoy a more relaxed, casual environment while digging into a burger and shake! We sure do

Its not directly on the monorail but WCC at WL is a good choice and close.

California Grill is good if you want to spend alittle moremoeny and want a nice night out. But I wouldn't suggest it if your comng back from a day at the parks.

Kona Cafe is nice and simple and could be a good ending to a day.

Tony's Restaurant in the MK is another good choice.

I would go to Kona or GFC....1900 PF was great for character interaction but the food was just horrible.

California Grill is good if you want to spend alittle moremoeny and want a nice night out. But I wouldn't suggest it if your comng back from a day at the parks.

But that's the beauty of staying at the Polynesian or other monorail resorts. It's so easy to go to the MK in the am, return to the resort for naps or pool and beach time, then get ready for a nice dinner on the monorail circuit.

I agree the CG is a great choice.

We loved Liberty Tree Tavern & my family would definitely go back (even without the characters). The turkey, steak, and ham were perfectly cooked. We also really enjoyed the stuffing, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, and veggies. I'm allergic to apples, so the chef made a fabulous chocolate dessert for us instead. Best of all: you don't have to leave your seat to elbow others at the buffet. It was such a relief to simply sit & be served. I think your family will really enjoy it. Otherwise, you may want to check out Trail Ends buffet http://allears.net/menu/menu_teb.htmat at Fort Wilderness (a boat ride away from Magic Kingdom). They have the same fried chicken and ribs as Hoop Dee Doo Revue, plus shrimp, carved meats, pasta, salads, soups, hot side items and desserts. The Fort also offers a s'mores roast & sing-along with Chip & Dale every night- a fun time for your kids.

Not sure if you are looking for a high end meal or not, but we love Citrico's at the GF... I have to say I am not a fan of the MK restaurants.. sorry, so if it were me, I would try to do one Epcot restaurant. Thinking of your age of your children, I wonder if they would like Teppan Edo, where the chefs cook in front of you on a huge grill, which you sit around, and they tailor the cooking show to children most times.. Kind of cute, and the food is good. Not sure you want to hoof it over there, but it is a thought.

thank you all for your suggestions - I'm going off to check out all the menus and I'll report back!!! (I may well be persuaded towards one of the GF restaurants as I really want to pop in there to see the xmas decorations!)

Here's another vote for WCC at WL. Short, relaxing boat ride, and lots of fun and good food. Have fun!

If I could only pick one place I would pick Narcoosee's. Expensive but we've always had great food and try to time it to see Wishes over the lagoon but you can have people on the patio or not be next to the windows.
