On our last trip my family[DH, DS(1), his DW, their 3 kids, DS(2) and myself] were getting on the Monorail. DH, myself, DGD and DS(2) had entered and were seated, the remainder of our party was entering the car when a CM made them exit and go to another car to load a wheelchair. After CM loaded the chair, we got up to leave and join our party and he told us to stay put there was plenty of room. We told him he had made part of our party leave the car so we wanted to join them. He stated that wheelchairs always have the "right" (his words) to the car before others so he had no choice. Just wondering if this happens a lot and what we could do to prevent being seperated again, as DGD was very upset at having Mom & Dad sent away.
(I am not trying to start a debate on whether wheelchairs should be loaded first just want to know any "secrets" to not be seperated again)

I have never seen this happen, but I am guessing that since that is the situation with the buses, it carries over to the monorail as well.

I'm sure Tyler can help us if he sees this, but I suspect you might have initially been seated in a wheelchair accessible monorail car, and in that particular car, wheelchairs would take priority.

So the answer could be as simple as making sure not to get in a wheelchair accessable car? How are they marked so we will know not to get into one?

Last time I was on the monorail, I mistakenly got on a handicapped car. There was a sign stating that wheelchairs had priority. A girl in a wheelchair did get on, but as the car wasn't crowded, we didn't have to move. If I remember correctly, the sign was visible the moment I sat down, so I was made aware that I was in a handicapped car. Next time, look around and see if you can find any sign's or ask the CM before you enter the car.

There are several of the cars that have the handicapped symbol on the side. They are preferred for the handicapped guests. There will also be a sign inside the car stating that.

If you are in a regular car I never heard them saying anything.

The two center cars on each monorail are marked with a wheelchair symbol. As many times as I've looked at it, I should know but I think it is on the center post facing the door.

Almost positive the symbol is not on the outside of the cars.

So just avoid the center cars and you'll be fine.

These cars have a little more room floor room and so wheelchairs can fit on them. If the spots are full with chairs, a wheelchair user has to wait for the next monorail.

The two center cars are the ones with the extra space to accomodate guests with wheelchairs or scooters. (3R and 4F)

For the MK Express and the Epcot stations, each gate is marked with the wheelchair symbol. As you enter the train, there is also a wheelchair symbol on the stanchion, facing out. Inside the train, there are two placards above the door areas stating that this is the accessible car, and that guests are requested to make room for those travelling with wheelchairs.

As long as there are no guests requiring the extra space, all guests are free to use those designated cars, as long as they understand they could be asked to move.
