Monorail Issues will sway my decision

I agree, the walk to IG was so quick and convenient. Ughhh.. I cant decide. Literally about to draw a name from a hat!

Well, if it helps, we are two adults, no children. We picked Polynesian for last trip mostly due to my nostalgia for it (hadn't stayed there since early 80's) and we always stay at Yacht or Beach.
The convenience to MK was great, but we really, really missed the food options of Epcot! There just isn't much counter service (in our opinion) around the MK hotels. Being so close to Epcot really opens up food options for us.
And we never find the bus to MK from Yacht/Beach to be bad at all. And now there's Uber which makes everything even easier.

That all said, we did enjoy our stay at Polynesian and with you having kids, it is probably a lot easier for MK! And the boat launch really is great - you can take it to/from MK at Polynesian and Grand Floridian. You can also walk to GF, easy walk. And if you are trying to go to Contemporary and monorail is down, you can take the boat to MK and walk over to Contemporary quite easily.

Has anyone recently stayed at a monorail resort and if so, how was the monorail operating? Delays? Broken down? Super crowded leaving MK?

I cant decide between the Poly and Beach Club. I would prefer Poly as I will have 2 little ones with me and the convenience of the monorail would be great, but on my last 2 stays at the Poly, the monorail was barely working. If that is still the case, Id rather be at the Beach Club as the girls would love the pool and we dine often in Epcot.

I would say if you have never stayed at BC pick that. We visit every few years and try a different resort each time (sometimes we have even done a split stay).

A split stay is not an option. We have 2 families, including 2 young girls and a lot of luggage etc... I think splitting the stay would be a hassle. I have never stayed at the Beach Club. Every time I make a reservation, something happens....not included in free dining, other resorts offer a much better discount, no garden view available which brought the price much higher than other resorts etc..etc.. and I end up changing. My last trip I booked BC and when discounts came out, BC offered 10% off room while YC offered 30%. so I switched. A few steps away and almost $2000 saved. If I dont go with the Poly, I will try for BC again, but something tells me Ill end up at the Yacht Club !!

Actually a few years ago we did YC which was our first Epcot resort and loved it so if you can’t get BC then I would recommend that.

I'd take my chances with the monorail and stay at Poly. Having said that, CR is awesome for its proximity to MK. The walk from CR to MK is faster than the monorail because you have to ride the loop all the way around, and if you're leaving at park closing you'll relish the opportunity to hoof it back to your room instead of waiting for the 'rail.
CR doesn't have the warm/fuzzy vibe of the Poly or GF, but it is a terrific resort. A hotel with a monorail running through it? Doesn't get any better. :earsboy:

Like anything mechanical, break downs are always a possibility. If you'd rather be at the Beach Club, then do that. The monorail or any particular ride should not sway you at all as they are unpredictable and you could left disappointed. ENJOY your resort...no matter where you choose.

Currently staying at BLT. No issues the past 4 days with the monorail.

On the 21st in the evening there were issues. I'd gone to the Contemporary for a QS dinner and was taking the monorail back for the dessert party. We stopped for well over 10 minutes at the TTC, and I opted to jump off and get on the "Express". We held for moment then left, then held for about 5 minutes out on the track. All due to "clearance issues".

It all depends on when you're on it. If you're on it when it is running fine, no issues. If you're on it when it has problems, issues. Much like others said about the transportation system in general - sometimes it's perfect, sometimes it's horrid.

We've always had pleasant and reliable monorail service during our visits.

We were at the Poly last week, with our 3 young grandsons(6,6,8) and my mother(86). We did not have a single monorail problem. When we were there in May and in September, it was also painless. Prior to those stays, it had been brutal for a few years.

Great info! Thanks.

Thats food for thought!

We stayed at the Poly in May (2017 and 2016), BLT in May (2014, 2012, 2010) and had no issues at all with the monorail. Maybe we were lucky or maybe there aren't really that many issues with the monorail.
