Monorail Drink-A-Thon

We scheduled our Monorail Drink-A-Thon early in the trip while our friend Barb was visiting and the crowds were low. Our girls, all of whom have been to WDW many times and know the place like the back of their hands, went into the MK for an evening of fun while the adults rode the rail.

We started off at the Contemporary around 8:30 PM and went to the Outer Rim.

Robin, Barb, Michelle, John, David

All of us, except for David , started out the evening light knowing that we had a long night ahead of us. Barb and I had wine, Michelle a coffee drink, John a Sam Adams and David a strong silly tropical drink. Our bartender was very nice and took our picture. She told us we were not the first to drink around the monorail ... I'm sure some of our other lushes had been there before us .

We hopped the monorail for the Polynesian and the Tambu Lounge.

I love the Tambu Lounge, but it was really busy when we arrived. Our bartender was brusque and we were disappointed that they were out of pineapples for Lapu-Lapus. We had the drink without the pineapple and were charged about $3 less. I'd rather have the pineapple. We all had Lapus and they were very good!

We had to beg a waitress to take our picture. The first "cousin" we asked said yes, but had someone else so it. So much for 'ohana. The cousin who took our picture was from Wisconsin ... no wonder she was nice! We took our drinks in our to-go cups and headed for the beach. We got there just in time to watch Wishes from over the lagoon.

Those Lapu-Lapus (or just a Lapu in our case) packs quite a punch. We were feeling no pain as we traveled the "highway in the sky" over to the Grand Floridian. We admired the ginger bread house and peeked into Mitzners. Dead and boring. We followed our original plan and waked to Narcoossee's.

Narcoossee's was also slow, but I enjoy the atmosphere and the bartender welcomed us warmly. The bar is small, with only about 8 seats. If we started at Narcoossee's I think we would have enjoyed our drinks on the wraparound porch. But ... it was chilly and we were happy to park our butts .

I had some silly tropical drink, David had cognac (he should have gone to Mitzners!) John had a frozen milkshake-type drink, Michelle had a chocolate martini and Barb had a silly tropical drink with a glowing ice cube. Gee ... my memory fails me here. I wonder why.

We tried to find glowing ice cubes for the rest of our trip and struck out until the very end. We finally found them at the MK on NYE in a giant soft drink for $10 (2 cubes) and the drink cart at MGM right outside of the SciFi Diner.

We left Narcoossee's and headed back to the MK to pick up the kids and take the bus back to our resorts. We had been in constant communication with the girls by GRMS Radio and cell phones. We met them back in Fantasyland and we all rode Dumbo and the Carousel before heading home.

A good time was had by all.

Ok I've now been through all 38 pages. My friend and I are going to attempt the World showcase. I know I read somewhere a list of dcrinks for eahc country. I'm not a big wine or beer drinker, mostly mixed drinks. I know about the Fiesta Margaritas, and the ones in italy, what other suggestions do you have?

LadyArcher- You can try Saki in Japan, but please be advised that it was served hot and not such the great idea to drink in humid FL weather! To be completely honest my suggestion is just to go there and walk up to the stands, fast food restaurants, and into the shops and see what CM's recommend! They were really great with us when we were there!

Warning: I suggest before you start your tour of the world, make a dinner PS. You're def gonna be hungry after and this way you remember to eat and dont have to wait as long! O and also make sure you have plenty of water back in your room for the next morning! You're going to need it! Unfortunately we had vodka in one of our water bottles, there was a little confusion the next morning in desperation caused by dehydration as I'm sure you can imagine...overall not a pretty site!

And good luck...it really is fun!

OK completly diferent train of thought, what's the best place for dinner at Epcot, last time we went, I missed the World Showcase all together. Don't ask me how, I just did!

I had kinda a funny, embarrassing moment after spending the afternoon in Dad's Lounge at the 50's Prime Time Diner on my recent trip:

I made it into the hot seat at Millionaire!!

When the host asked what I had been doing all day, I told him I spent the day in the lounge! When I lost (at the 16,000 level), I stepped off my chair and didn't realize there was a little ledge there, and so stumbled a bit. My husband said he made jokes about being in the lounge and then imitated me tripping several times!! Yikes!!

Another funny part of the situation is that when I first got called down, they asked me who I was with. I said my husband was up in the audience and pointed. There he was, on the big screen, pointing a camera at me to take a picture. They made a huge joke of how you aren't allowed to take pictures, and there he is, caught on the big screen, pointing a camera. He truly didn't pay attention when they gave the instructions at the beginning of the show, and so was not deliberately ignoring instructions.

It was all pretty darn funny!

I really like Germany's Biergarten. Good stick to your ribs comfort food. We also like Teppanyaki Steakhouse in Japan. It's a Japanese Steakhouse like Benihana where they cook your food on a grill in front of you. I am not a huge fan of Rose and Crown in the UK or Marrakesh in Morocco. I can take or leave Le Cellier in Canada or Chefs de France in France (good good, but too expensive) and I have never been to the sit-down restaurants in Mexico, Italy or China. As for counter service, I like the egg rolls in China, the Yakatori House in Japan. the Patisserie in France and the Fish and Chips stand in the UK.

OMG...Robin...I love all the pics! You guys had a blast...wish I could have been there! I am so impressed that you can switch from drink to drink as you make your way around. i could never do that, especially with sweet drinks! But that is great...to get the fell of each place by drinking something different. i really loved the pics. thanks for sharing!

Ladyarcher-I have only eaten at Marakesh (Morrocco) and Akershus (Norway) and we loved both! but I am an adventurous eater.

It really does make me laugh when I think of it - especially when I picture my husband on that big screen with his camera!!

The question I missed - and it kills me, because my daughter knew the answer EASY - was "In what city did the Backstreet Boys meet?" So obvious when I think about it!!

The crazy thing is that the next night I would have made it in the hot seat again, except that a winner has to wait 30 days to be in the hot seat again (I've never made it before, and now I make it twice in one trip!), and I knew ALL the answers without using a lifeline up til the 16,000 level (where the contestant also missed...) Of course, had I been in the hot seat, those easy questions wouldn't have seemed so easy!!

I did a search on glowing ice cubes, and found lots of places that sell them. (I'm not sure if it is OK to list their websites, but I just put "glowing ice cubes" into the search engine and found tons.

However, I'd rather earn mine...

LadyArcher- I love San Angel Inn! Very good, but if you're looking for tex-mex this is not the place for you. This is real Mexican food. Be prepared if you go to Beirgarten in Germany depending on the size of your party you can be placed at a table with other people (I also personally don't enjoy German food, so had an awful time whenever the family forced me to eat here). I enjoyed the sit down restaurant in Italy, but the tables are VERY close together! I have heard wonderful things about Le Cellier, if you like steak. And as for sit downs in China and France I havent eaten there in many many years, but I do remember enjoying Nine Dragons in China.

No - it was Orlando!! A couple of them were Mouseketeers!! If I had thought that through, I might have been successful. My choices were Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, and some other city. I thought it was probably LA, but maybe New York, and so did 50/50. All that was left was New York and Orlando, so, needless to say, I went with New York.

OOO what a stinky loss for you! NYC would never create such a cliche as the backstreet boys however. I have more faith in my lovely city then that! (no offense to any BSB fans)

Also I noticed that the Dis now has a college board and there was a thread on there about drinking in the parks. The poor kiddies were getting yelled at by older dis-ers for suggesting getting "buzzed" in the parks. I recommended they come here and make some new friends and maybe share a beer or two or five!

I think we'll go with the place like Bennihana's I love their fried rice! I live in Texas, not to far from the Hill Country, so I can have real Mexican food any time I want and German food. What is a chocolaye Martini? And does anyone know of any countries that would have something like a Colorado BullDog?

I don't want you to be disappointed, but the Teppanyaki Steakhouse doesn't serve fried rice .
