One time I was on the monorail platform at MK and an older couple was arguing with a CM that the last time they were there the monorail went to All Stars! They kept saying "it goes to all the resorts".
I hear ya. I have a friend who doesn't like WDW one bit, but when they go, she will stay only at the GF. She tried telling me that it was only guests of the GF who were allowed to sit up front in the monorail. Nothing I said would convince her that anyone, no matter where they were staying, was able to do that.
Then, the best one..she told me that the GF had a direct monorail line to Epcot. I told her that there are three distinct monorail lines....resort, express and Epcot. She said she understood that and that they used the Epcot line from the GF. I tried explaining to her that you have to get to the TTC in order to get on the Epcot line....that she had to use the resort line, then transfer to the Epcot line. Nope, she didn't..she was very sure of it. Something special for those staying at 'the' WDW resort...not available to anyone else. Yeah, right.
It would be ridiculously expensive to bring the monorail to any new areas. It is almost cost prohibitive. The cost to stay at the resorts any new line went to would skyrocket!!! That's one of the reasons AKL, while considered a deluxe resort, is cheaper to stay in than the monorail or Epcot area deluxes..no direct foot, monorail or boat access to a park.
Not sure how these things get started...I can't imagine any guest having insider info.
