We have taken the boys several times, but the have only rode the monorail once. It broke down on us and we had to sit there for what seemed like an eternity. It was so hot and crowded, they crammed standing people in there as well. After talking to a few friends they had all experienced it breaking down as well. Is this really that common of an occurrence. We have not ridden since then b/c of that. The boys say, I'd rather take the bus than risk missing ride time being stuck in there again. Not to mention it was a very uncomfortable situation and didn't help that I'm claustrophobic- he he. What do you all think?

I've only had a problem with it "breaking down" once and that was before I got on it at the Contemporary. We just went to breakfast at Chef Mickey's and then got on the monorail when it was moving again. I would NOT have been happy to have been stuck IN the monorail all that time.

I HAVE been in the monorail when it has been held on the track for some reason. The last time it was about 20 minutes waiting for a monorail to switch onto the track when they were adding one on the resort circuit. We were headed to the Contemporary on the express monorail to the MK and got stuck. That seemed like a long wait to me, too, as I was standing. But that was once out of many, many trips to WDW. Usually a delay is only 2 or 3 minutes while they wait for a monorail ahead to clear the track.

Last month my family and I were on the Resort Monorail at the TTC and we were told to get off because it broke down, so we had to wait 20 minutes until they deciced to move it out so the next Resort Monorail behind it could come in there. Then a few days later at the Polynesian the whole Resort Monorail line went down, so my family and I took a Taxi back to the Contemporary.

You don't have a choice of taking either the bus or the monorail. If the monorail services a resort or park, then the busses don't, and visa versa. If the monorail breaks down or can't run for some other reason, which is not that often, only then are the busses put into service for that location. Monorails service the the locations around Seven Seas Lagoon and Epcot only.

I have ridden the monorail hundreds of times and had no problems. It does break down every now and then but busses and boats can also have problems.

I second the above message. I have never experienced a total breakdown. Once we had a brief wait (less than 5 min.) at the GF for a track maintenance. We usually take the monorail over to MK in the a.m. and have only had to stand once.

We've been to Disney over 15 times and never experienced a broken down monorail, just delays here and there waiting for another monorail to clear the station. And I could probably count on one hand the times we've all had to stand. Maybe we're just lucky?
