Monorail breakdowns - stories?

Thank God this has never happened in the 27-odd years I've been visiting WDW, but I KNOW it's happened.

Anyone have any stories? What does Disney do when, say, a monorail breaks down between the TTC and Epcot? I remember about 13 years ago when WDW was a bit smaller that a bus used to run between the three monorail hotels from 7 am till 2 am - my guess as a backup???

Last May we had to walk from CR to the MK and take the ferry back to the Poly one evening when the resort monorail got struck by lightning. No one was hurt, but it stranded a car about 75 ft. out of the CR, between CR and the Poly. They had the route closed for about 2.5 hours. We had left DS at the NL Club for the evening while we went to dinner at CG; we had to get back to fetch him.

Most times when a monorail experiences technical difficulties, a quick reboot of the computer systems fixes the problem. In the case that doesn't work, "Rangers" come out and can fix the problem on the spot. Most problems do not impact the motion of the train, and are typically computer glitches. More serious or repetitive problems will require the train to go back to Shop.

In the rare case that a train becomes disabled, we have diesel powered tow tractors that can come out and tow a train as needed.

We also have emergency proceedures including a train-to-train tow, a train-to-train evacuation, and a Reedy Creek ladder based evacuation. Emergency Evacuation drills are performed multiple times per year, with different scenarios, so that Reedy Creek can be experienced in the unlikely event that an evacuation is needed. 999 times out of 1,000, this won't be needed, but it's good to know it's there.
